I stayed at the Commodore for business and they went out of their way for my colleagues and I. The rooms are maybe a little dated and are a bit of an eclectic mish-mash but the communal areas were lovely and comfortable. I think they're in the process of upgrading/updating parts of the hotel so that's fair enough. Andrea and the staff made us all feel very welcome even after we'd checked out, for which I can't sing their praises enough.

The large cosy fire in the bar/lounge area and board games along with the friendly little dogs were also highlights. Thank you!
Thank sionc

We booked a room last minute at the Commodore following a particularly difficult day. The staff, room, services and pretty much everything that followed was excellent. I am extremely grateful for the very warm welcome we received. Made a huge difference to us. Thank you team

We arrived as part of a Coach party and the check-in was highly efficient. We were lucky to have one of the newly renovated rooms and it was very comfortable, with lots of finishing touches including a mini fridge, slippers and dressing gowns. The owners and staff were super friendly throughout and nothing was too much trouble. My husband and I are vegan, which we informed the staff about in advance. As a result they went out of their way to create delicious dishes for us, including really well thought through alternatives at breakfast. There was always a roaring fire in the grate and a friendly welcome when we all came back from our travels.

Unusually, I am not really sure where to start with this review of The Commodore.

We stayed here for 2 nights during an unusually quiet time - the staff on duty said they had been flat-out for the preceding 2.5 months, and the weekend we were there was their first quiet one in a long time.

We were warmly greeted upon arrival, and in fact the small hotel staff made us feel very welcome throughout our stay there.

This hotel has a lot of heritage, but the present owners are embarking on a gradual transformation of it into something rather unusual. It certainly is quirky! Our room felt clean, and the bathroom was clearly recently-refurbished, but the common areas feel as though they could do with a very thorough-going deep clean and redecoration at the very least, and perhaps a complete rebuilding.

Our room suffered from a few defects - the sink plug did not fit meaning that the water ran out as fast as it ran in, and the low occupancy meant that hot water took several minutes to arrive at our taps (either that, or their HWS Secondary Pump was faulty/missing). The WC was accessed up two steps, and gave you a real feeling of being on a throne. I personally would not have chosen black-and-silver sparkly cladding for an internal bathroom, but that's personal taste.... The fittings all looked very recent and there was plenty of bathroom storage.

There were a few pleasant surprises, though - the one-of-a-kind bed certainly made for a memorable stay, even if you had to careful not to bash your shins on it when getting in. Our room was spacious and the hospitality tray generous. We even had (and used) a coffee pod machine.

The breakfast is part self-service (cereals, fruit, etc) and part cooked-to-order. The bacon was very nicely done - just how I personally like it.

To sum up, The Commodore is not for everyone, and I felt during our whole stay that that something was lacking - but I couldn't pinpoint just exactly what. But if you like something a bit off-the-wall and don't mind a few small niggles, it might be worth giving it a try.
Thank mekydro
