Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Attended a two day outdoor first aid instructor course here, and I was impressed by the facilities and the history, and the highly friendly and competent staff. A great place to run any outdoor event. Good food, unlimited tea and coffee and comfortable classrooms. Ample parking.

My kid just came back from a school organised adventure break (having pretty much hated every PGL/Mill on the Brue trip before). We had trepidations because of some scathing Trip Advisors reviews but this is what they said on their return: "Best food ever of any residential I've been on" "Rooms were really clean, spacious with lovely clean bathrooms" "Mattresses had fresh covers on them (i.e. no stains)" "Instructors were really experienced older people" (i.e. people in their 30s not teens on summer jobs) and they had a "hysterical time doing all the activities" (and got seriously soaked so pack for that!) This beats any place they have ever been on a school trip and would go back in a heartbeat here over any other venue. High praise indeed. I think its sad that kids can be made to worry having read bad reviews (but hey, that's the internet for you). I am writing this review to reassure and thank the folks at Abernant for a superb stay. Diolch!

I went here for a school residential trip, the accommodation was great but I did expect pillows but I brought my own, I loved the activities and the food was amazing especially the chicken goujons 😋 the vending machines were a big hit but they were often broken, but I do understand because there was a heck of a queue, the school above us was banging on the roof but it’s not the instructors fault and they were really friendly and good to be around, they explained the activities clearly so we could understand, I rate this place 9/10 and make sure you follow the dress code 😬 I was lush but a heck of a drive there and there website needs to be updated because it’s not exactly the same as we were expecting it to be. Amazing 9/10 Molly

Daughter stayed here on a school trip. Mattresses were stained, rooms and bathrooms were dirty and the food was of a poor standard - even for a hostel. Lake had dried up, can’t be helped, but added to an overall poor experience. However, the staff (instructors) were great. Regardless of how cheap a hotel/hostel is to stay at, it should be clean and food should be fresh. Hope the place improves.

I’ve been to this Abernant Lake a few years ago (say 3), It got bought up in a conversation I was having, It is a horror experience. First, there is a plaque outside, it contains a logo and 2 stars on it, not off to a good start, the rooms are not good, Stains on bed and cracks etc. STAY AWAY FROM THE CHEF: The chef here is really horrible, he will give you a look if you haven’t finished. The food is absolutely disgusting, Please bring a cooler box with sandwiches because eating here isn’t worth it. ADVISORY You were probably asked to bring money for a “vending machine” You can bring some money but you probably won’t be spending it, the staff are too lazy to refill the machines, they are empty. Disco: No crowd, don’t go. Overall: 2/10 Pro: Activities were alright, CON: Worst food. Abernant Lake, or (Manor Adventure) does not sell water, I only survived on Diet Coke. So bring some water with you Do not trust the website, it’s far from what it looks like.

This place was pretty cool to go to apart from the rooms that were a bit well not so lovely to put it nicely but on the first night at around 3-5 am there was knocking an all walls including ceiling i was on top floor btw. After a while of cowering in my bed thinking i was going insane i noticed that everyone in my room was awake. We found the courage to open the door at fast as possible when the next knock on the door came and when we did so we were greeted by nothing but a shadow that sped down the hall into the corner. Any body else got a similar experience if so feel free to reach out to me and send me a message via my g-mail btw i went here in 2019...

I went to Abernant Lake last year in April, and it was the worst hotel I've ever been too! When me and my friends walked into our room, it was fine until, me and my friend saw a blood-stain on one of the mattresses. We went and told one of the workers but they just said that it didn't matter and that we should just leave it. After that, me and my friends decided to go and tell our teacher about the room, and she told the workers that they had to go and change the sheets. The canoeing and kayaking was extremely cold, and after you were finished they would give you hot squash. Eww. Even worse was, that even though we were crying and shivering they still made us carry the extremely heavy canoes and kayaks back into the shed! Also one of the workers was making fun of my voice when i was crying and he was trying to make me pull out my bobble to put a helmet on. When i said I can't and started crying, he made fun of my voice by talking like a baby and pretending to cry! Also the rooms were so cold at night I became ill and my teacher had to give me medicine because of how cold I was! I DO NOT recommend Abernant Lake Hotel to ANYONE and if you want to go somewhere with family in the countryside and play games, then go to Llangranog because that was 100 times BETTER!

I stayed here fairly recently and I thought that the facilities such as mattresses/pillows could have been slightly improved on. The food was great quality but I thought that portion size could have been slightly improved on. The staff here, both activity supervisors and hotel staff were all extremely very kind and friendly and were willing to help if needed. The activities were amazing with so much to offer! The wet activities paddle boarding / raft building were great as they challenged you to face your fears. Maybe a couple of more activities could of been included in the package. Overall, a average hotel and and absolutely amazing range of daytime activities to take part in.

This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The bedrooms were a disgrace. Bugs in the bedding and flying about the room mould growing up the walls. Moths flying about every where this place should be closed all the bedding was stained and dirty most disgusting place ever.

So I came here twice the first night was horrible our friend was upset and our door was rattling. Sombody tried to do our password but nobody knows who I opened the door but all I saw was a dark shadow come across the landing and go into a dark corner.. Me and my other friend could not sleep the whole night because of something trying to get into our room!!! The second time we went with in 2 hours our door was disabled and could not get in. We asked a worker for help and him to open our door with a spare key. He did not help us he just said “I can’t do anything ask someone else.” So after our activities another worker decided to unlock our door and we found our room was absolutely messed up so I recommend not to go here because of what happened!!!
