Estancia La Bamba de Areco, is one of the oldest estancias in Argentina. It is located only at 120 km from Buenos Aires and close to San Antonio de Areco in the heart of the Pampa. Has been renovated with great care as a boutique hotel, successfully combining luxurious comfort and colonial elegance. The spirit of the place is authenticity, the art of colonial luxury, history and tradition, attention to details, and people feel they are in a private house. La Bamba has recently become a Relais & Chateaux and a Virtuoso Member.

This is a luxury estancia experience where you have privacy but also experience the company of other guests. Rooms are spacious, well appointed, comfortable and quiet. Plenty of cloth hanging space and large bathroom. Breakfasts, lunch and dinners are each in a different area, communal, of a high standard and filling. Personal attention is outstanding with no request too difficult. With horse riding, mountain bikes, swimmimg pool and spa treatments, plus board games and reading materials, an abundance of birdlife, gaucho show, or reading in one of the many seating areas within property grounds, there is plenty to keep you occupied. Additionally, for around US$25 round trip, the town of San Antonio de Areca is only 20 minutes away. Wifi only works in 2 common areas, but is perhaps why you come here! Recommend for a 2-3 night stay.

We came here direct from international airport in Buenos after 14 hours flight from Europe. And I can tell you - this is a perfect start of any Argentinian journey ! You need less than 2 hours to enter this idyllic, quiet and elegant world of country polo club with smiling and helpful people around you. This is an historic site, so rooms are not very fancy, but have everything what you need (maybe wifi in rooms will be additional plus for La Bamba).
Endless green fields, beautiful old trees on site, cool swimming pool and service which tries to guess what you need before you even will think about it !
Food is another story here. All meals are done at shared table with all guests, which gives opportunity to meet fantastic people. Breakfast with freshly baked type of croissants, lunch in a BBQ veranda ( be careful ! there are five rounds of servings !) and fancy dinner in a room next to the library.
We spent there 3 days and this was an excellent decision. Many thanks to all staff members, especially to Gabriela, Lucia. This was also great to have a dinner with a General Manager Guilerme who convinced us to drink Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendoza instead an too obvious option of Malbec.
We will also miss Samba ! A beautiful, friendly Golden Retriever who greeted us, was with us all the time.

Call me shallow but I did enjoy being met at the end of the drive by a Gaucho on horseback and the staff ready with cool towels. This was our first stop on a tour of Argentina and did not disappoint. I couldn't think of any where better to recover from a long journey from the UK.
The place is designed exquisitely inside and out. Owned by a wealthy Frenchman with his own Polo team and it shows. They have won The Cowdrey Cup several times. I agree with a previous review that wifi is not available throughout, however I can't help think it makes a stay better for this. Bedrooms are beautiful with air con ( not every Estancia has this ) which was very welcome as Argentina was experiencing a heatwave when we were there and it was necessary to keep windows shut. Yes we did experience some mosquitos, there is repellant everywhere but if you are susceptible do bring your own with deet. Meals are taken together something I would normally avoid like the plague but it somehow worked, we met some lovely interesting people. Everything is included which is fabulous don't worry no wristbands! Lunch is served Asado style with great salads and meat. Do try the sweetbreads. lunch finishes with a Dulce de leche pancake, on my third day I couldn't have eaten another one so had fabulous ice cream instead. The Argentinians have a very sweet tooth. Dinner is served in one sitting in the main house at approx 8pm. Breakfast on the terrace of another building as and when you would like. This was delicious. I can only describe it as like being at a very smart country house party weekend. We did ride which was lovely however, I have ridden most of my life and did find the ponies a bit slow, I wonder if it would be possible to have a couple of different level of rides, hats, chaps are provided, lead by a charming Gaucho. One morning we went for a walk and we were accompanied by the two Estancia dogs who knew the route round the river then deposited us back to where we started! I do hope they are on the payroll. The horse show is beautiful.
The grounds are immaculate. The pool area well looked after, with yet more food in the way of afternoon tea.
We also had a fabulous empanada lesson in the hotel kitchen.
Our stay was three full days and two nights which was probably about right if part of a longer trip.
My last words really are for the staff, without exception professional but extremely welcoming and fun, they went above and beyond for us, helping with a home issue.
I cant recommend this place enough.

Words don’t seem quite enough to explain how great this little gem is. Worth the journey from Buenos Aires. Guillermo and team run a fantastic property. I had the pleasure of accompanying Eduardo on a sunset hack through fields and along the stream that abuts the property, which was truly a great experience. We had the place to ourselves which felt like a privilege beyond compare. It started with an Asado lunch al fresco with three other guests that were visiting for the day, followed by the horse whisperer giving us a demonstration that was truly breathtaking. Dinner with Guillermo in the main dining room and then the extra effort they went to to prepare breakfast for us the next day (despite our very early getaway) showed how pre-emptive they were and that nothing was too much trouble.

I have travelled many countries and stayed at the big brands, boutique and standalone properties and this is without doubt one of the best experiences I have ever had. I cannot wait to come back again and wish the property continued success.

The only disappointing thing was that we had to leave!

Muchos gracias!

Simply lovely . A gaucho comes galloping down to let you in the gate and from then on you are in the lap of luxury . The staff are friendly and helpful without being obsequious. They love it if you are genuinely interested in the Estancia , the horses , the wildlife and the locality . The riding is great , the carriage drive good fun and lunches particularly are fantastic . Make the time to visit - you won’t be disappointed .

Amazing luxury hotel where no effort is spared to make your stay a truly memorable one. The food, location, service and wines are all unforgettable. Set in the grounds of a polo club the horse riding expert is amazing with one of the coolest gauchos in Argentina. A complete gem. I will be back.

Our girls trip took us to La Bamba on our recent trip to Argentina. It was such a unique experience -- from the scenery to the horseback riding to the communal meals with people we otherwise would have never met! We definitely recommend this spot for a couple of nights to get out of Buenos Aires and enjoy a very slowed down (little wifi!), relaxing experience. Special shout out to Michaela, Segundo, Jo, and Eduardo for making our experience so special.

Beautiful property. Excellent service. Many fun activities: horse riding, horse carriage, swimming, bicycle etc. or just relaxing. Family style eating - sitting with other guests at a long table and getting to know everyone. The cowboy with horse show is special. The only drawback is the mosquitoes (especially during horse riding, make sure don’t wear tight pants) although there are repellents everywhere.

An unforgettable experience. Despite the Covid restrictions, we have been able to enjoy a beautiful day. All details are taken into account to ensure a perfecto customer experience. From the contact during the arrival trip to ensure a perfect reception to the riding helmets. I recommend it for foreign and local tourists. Lunch is delightful and of a gourmet level.

I don’t think so; it is quite far out (2hrs each way) so not worth it for the day. You would be better arranging things individually closer to the city.

Can you spend the day here enjoying activities or just overnight guests are permitted?

Hello, There wasn't an extra charge for horse riding or being driven on the horse and cart. We were offered the chance to go horse riding twice a day if we wished. I'm pretty sure all meals were included in the price we paid (we booked direct) and we didn't ever have a menu to choose from. Just lots of delicious asado (barbeque meats) and salad for lunch and a wonderful three course meal in the evening. You don't have to eat there but I highly recommend you have at least one dinner and lunch! The food was amazing. There is a pretty, historic town a short taxi ride away where you could have a wander around, take photos and grab lunch, not sure about dinner. I'm not sure about the massage rates but I remember thinking the horse whisperer experience was quite expensive for the length of time (10-15 mins) scheduled. Which may be an indication of the expense of optional extras. However, we've never seen anything like it before so for us, it was well worth it. Hope you have a great trip!
