Unlike many other posadas and hotels in town, this is more quiet and enjoys more land around it, with a small fountain, a terrace, a small lawn and interesting paintings on the walls. Breakfast was diversified, the overall atmosphere was enjoyable, staff were helpful (changing money, giving directions, storing luggage I did not need when up the Roraima) and the rooms I got (stayed there twice) were fine (having a mosquito repellent with me was helpful). It would be a bit too much when they complete the works on the first floor, basically doubling the number of rooms they now have.

We stayed here for 2 nights and the staff were really friendly. We got large portions of lovely breakfast and dinner. There's loads of space; big bedrooms, hammocks, seating areas and dining room. Great hot showers too, which isn't too common where we've been in Brazil! Def recommended

We stayed at Poasda Los Pinos, before embarking onto our Ascent of Mount Roraima. One of our party's bag didn't make it, with all their trekking gear, so Eric drove them into town to buy clothes and leant them sleeping bags, boots Etc. After conquering Roraima, and 5 nights under canvas, we returned for one more night. Where Eric was waiting to ferry us down town for a much needed Shave. Back for a shower, dinner and a late night session on The Rum. Thanks Eric. ( K.E. Trip Nov 16)

After negotiating our way through the intricacies of the border, this was a welcome oasis. Joel made us feel welcome from the start. ( Eric was away). Considering the shortages and crisis Venezuela is undergoing, we had delightful meals and drinks. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were clean and met our needs. Internal and external decor was truly amazing and unique. Circular wood carvings on the posts of the communal area showed much thought and love had been expended here. The pool gave great fun to 2 children also staying there. Our accommodation was booked as part of Osprey Expeditions.

We stayed here before and after the trek to mount roraima. The place is perfect and the hospitality is top notch. Although we had to change our travel plans due to some unforeseen events, the owner Eric rearranged everything and made this trip happen. Highly recommended

I came here with two friends to climb Mt Roraima, organized through Backpacker Tours (same owner as the posada). The rooms themselves were fine and relatively clean, though not air-conditioned. Dinner was also okay, though more German than Venezuelan. There was no wifi in the rooms, but it was fairly strong in the meal area. If I had just been staying here as a guest, I would rate the place better, and would consider returning. As a trekker, however, it was a different story. Through email, we had arranged through the tour company to have a car pick us up in Ciudad Guayana and drive us here, with the same on the return. The cost for this was $250. I suspect (though cannot be certain), that the driver only received a portion of this. Our driver on the way down was excellent, knowledgeable, and (most importantly) had a big car. On the way back, we needed to go back north on the same day we finished the trek. For the return trip, the logistics were completely botched. We were met by a driver at the end of the hike who had been asked to drive down (an 8 hour drive) and return in the same day (meaning he had been awake since 4am, since they also gave him an incorrect time that we would be done with the hike). Additionally, his car barely fit our trekking luggage. Which would have been fine, except we had also left other luggage locked up at the posada, Ok, well they were going to send the luggage with a different car (i.e., hand our secure luggage over to a third party without our consent), which again, would have been okay, except they sent the wrong bags. We ended up waiting for several hours for the correct luggage to be delivered, which then had to be strapped to the roof of our (tiny) Chevy Spark. Then, we proceeded to drive for 9 hours, arriving after midnight. Though exhausted, I had to stay awake to talk to our driver, since I was the only Spanish-speaker, and he would have fallen asleep at the wheel otherwise. (When I noticed him stop to get out and splash water on his face, get back in and turn the music up, I started to get worried...) While the posada itself has decent facilities, I would not let them (nor Backpacker Tours) organize your trek.

Hotel is located about a 10 minute walk to the town center. The rooms are basic but at least they are clean. I was with a tour group at dinner, one guest brought their own bottle of wine. When they asked to have the bottle opened the waiteress loudly told him that he shouldn't bring his own wine, as they sell wine; but she would make an exception.....why make a scene knowing nobody would return? Dinner consisted of soup with enough celantra to make the soup unetable. The mian meal was some chicken dish. Breakfast was to served from 8-9 AM. Since we were not leaving until 9:30 I came down to breakfast at 8:30AM. needless to say there wasn't much food left. I asked if they would be bringing out any more food? the answer was no. The coffee pot had enough for one last cup; I asked if they were going to make more..yes. They staff also had the wide screen TV playing LOUD music videos. After 10 minutes I went back for my coffee and was rudley told in LOUD spanish NO....too bad for you; this person spoke fluent English...but when convenient no habla. She spent 10 minutes ranting and raving in Spanish how I wanted another cup of coffee.....HELLO....I am the person paying to stay at your hotel.

Posada Los Pinos is a perfect place to start a trekking tour to Mountain Roraima. Erich the German owner is married since about 15 years with a Venezuelan woman and operates backpacker-tours.com I have joined a 6 days/5 nights Roraima trekking and was very positively surprised by the quality of guides (eG Roger: over 1000 treks to MTN Roraima), the equipment (eG Hilleberg tents, one of the most expensive ones), food way better than expected and a smooth flow of the entire tour. Posada Los Pinos is as well the perfect place to relax after the trip: hammocks, pool, bar and all rooms and the restaurans interior are done with love as you easily will recognize once you see the handcrafted wooden artwork all over. Both, the Posada and the Roraima trekking with backpacker-tours.com are highly recommended and they charge only what is delivered against. Special thanks to Erick and Roger for making my days in and around Santa Elena a pleasure

I stayed a night here with a friend one Saturday in May en route from Guyana and Brazil to the Angel Falls and Margarita Island (both stunning incidentally). The hotel is beautiful and soooooo cheap. Best of all we were made very welcome by our hosts Yari and Eric. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We got advice on where to eat, how to change currency and given a lift to the bus terminal to book for the next day. Best of all we were invited to watch the Champions League soccer final with lots of cuba libres. On our way back we arrived in Santa Elena at breakfast time off the night bus (freezing cold!) and had booked breakfast with Eric. He picked us up from the bus station, we had a lovely breakfast and he made a room each available to us for showers - total cost US$4 each!! Please go and experience for yourselves - and Eric does trips to Mount Roriama and the Angel Falls, again please use him, he is such a wonderful guy and great company. Thanks a million Eric!
