Terrible communication. Not transparent at all with prices, availability or anything for that matter. Could not get simple queries answered. Host was trying to overcharge. Booking process is not straight-forward.

The location and concept is fantastic but the owners of Kenza have become complacent with success. They have a thriving business with tour groups so are a bit dismissive of independent travellers. To be honest in our travels in Tunisia we felt less welcome here than anywhere else. I imagine this will remain the case while they remain the only accommodation option in Chenini. They are well aware that tourists will pay well above normal prices for this experience.

There is nothing fancy about Kenza, but it is a must. The hotel is on the top layer of Cheninni village and the rooms are in caves.. The caves are basic but have electricity and one of them has an air conditioner. The restaurant is further down the hill - the food is good but the portions are enormous! Cheninni village is a must see and the most charming accommodation is Kenza.

We had a unique and lovely stay at the Kenya caves ! We are so happy that a place like this still exists and helps to support the local people. Make sure to eat at the restaurant Kenza and do a tour (les septs dormants, Douit, oasis...) with a local guide from the village. We were so happy to stay 2 nights to feel the vibe. Have A tea at the Buvette all the way up as it has a breathtaking view.

All the best

We were a group of 6 people, we arrived to the hotel at 8pm. We had two rooms one was huge and clean with a nice bathroom the other one was with no working bathroom dust everywhere and cold. We started with the dinner. I expected a typical Tunisian one. It was the first horrible thing that happened to me in that hotel. Not only it was not delicious but I also found 2 hairs in it!!!! We booked for 2 nights with the confirmation of the owner. The next day they kicked us out ( the owner asked his worker to do it ) because they would give our rooms to a family of doctor ( the owner is a dentist ) apparently more prestigious for him ( IM A DOCTOR !) Then as we insisted to stay because we had a confirmation of our booking they showed us a dirty place that I won't give it to my dog. No beds first, we have to sleep in ground with dirty bedsheets dust every. Of course we left and we could find a very nice cheaper hotel easily. I strongly don't recommend this hotel. It is the worst hotel I've ever been to.…

Il s'agit d'un avis tendancieux qui rejoint celui du Chef du même groupe de M. Issam qui a inventé cette histoire de réservation pour une 2me nuitée pour partir sans payer sa facture Je ne vous recommande pas ce genre de voyageurs !

First of all I have to say that the place is very very beautiful. But thats all. The service is a joke. The rooms were dirty and the toilettes were not working. No water etc. The food was not even traditional. Just french fries and chicken. A kind of fast food dinner. But that is only a part of our experience. I was with some tunisian friends who booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. As new tourists from france were coming after the first night, they kicked us out in a rude way just because a tunisian name was on the reservation. In that place they treat foreigners better than they own people. My friends said that we had also a foreigner in the group (me) and so they tried to offer us other rooms. But they were even more disgusting. We wanted to pay and leave to do our planned trip but they kept us there for more than an hour. Finally we left without paying because we really wanted to leave. After 2 h we had to go to the police station because the owner was there. We went there gave him the money and left. This really shows the worst part of the tunisian mentality. If you have euros or dollars they treat you better than others. We could find a different hotel for less money in the same area. To conclude, if you want to see the place: yes it is worth it. But please don't stay in that racist place.…

We stayed at this hotel for only 1 night but we would have gladly stayed more. We had a room that could sleep up to 11 people, even though we were only 6 people. The room was very comfortable and surprisingly clean considering that it's a cave dwelling. There was a great deal of space and even a TV. The bathroom was located outside of the room but it was clean and well kept. You have to space out your showers of course otherwise there isn't enough water as it is pumped all the way up the mountain side. The dinner and breakfast were both good. You wait awhile for your food but it is well worth it after talking to the server while you wait, who also lives in the hotel and grew up there, and when you get the food it is a good example of solid Tunisian cuisine. We definitely didn't leave hungry. The views from the hotel were gorgeous during sunset and sunrise and you have a direct view of Chenini from the "lobby" area of the hotel.…

If you visit Chenini, you MUST stay at the fabulous Residence Kenza. Where else would you get a chance to sleep inside a cave in comfort? We spent 2 nights here and absolutely loved it. Chenini is a special place on earth...we loved walking around the old mountain village, exploring the ksour, taking photos of the white mosque, seeing the camel that churns the olives, soaking in the beautiful ambiance. Kenza was the perfect place to stay. With friendly staff and dinner/breakfast included (friendly chef doesn't speak English but does speak German, Arabic and French), we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Just so you are aware, the hotel is a bit of a hike uphill over uneven terrain so don't bring too much stuff to lug up the hill. The staff offered to carry our bags but we declined. Halfway up the hill we wished we had accepted their kind offer! The restaurant (for dinner and breakfast) is about a 5 to 10 minute walk downhill from the hotel itself. (free wifi at the restaurant area, just ask for the password). We got to meet the lovely owner of Residence Kenza, a kindly dentist whose love for Tunisia and Chenini is obvious. Overall, two huge thumbs up for this special cave-hotel. Seriously if you are in this area and don't stay here, you've made a big mistake! Highly recommended.…

We ended up staying here 2 nights and it was certainly one of the most unique places we stayed in Tunisia. Rooms are in a cave dwelling with a great view of Chenini which was one of the best places we visited in Tunisia. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner is a 5 min walk away (dark at night). It's a reasonable walk uphil from where vehicles can park but there is a donkey to help with heavy luggage! I'd highly recommend staying here as Chenini is at it's most beautiful and peaceful early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The rooms are simple but comfortable and the whole place is full of character. The bathroom was private but just outside the room. The bathroom faciltiies were adequate although we sometimes had problems with the cold water (leaving the shower scalding hot) and just before we left the toilet stopped flushing. These difficulties are perhaps understandable considing the location. The ceilings are very low in the caves (including the bathroom) so if you are even of average height you do have to watch your head but it's worth it for a unique experience. The hosts were friendly and helpful although they don't speak much/any English. They were able to arrange cheap transport for us to travel around other sites in the area the next day. The food was great (if you like what they are cooking as you don't get a choice) and consisted of soup, brik, a typical Tunisian dish and fruit or a pastry for desert. Breakfast was the best we had in Tunisia (not saying much!) with non-packet jam and halwa in addition to bread, coffee and an egg. One morning we had a kind of stone baked bread and donut type bread which was a nice change from the usual bagette. Overall I'd highly recommend staying here and it's good value too at 40 dinar per person half board. It was pretty popular when we were there and we were lucky to get a room without a reservation but the walk up price did seem cheaper than some online booking prices.…
