This property boasts 29 rooms, including 5 family rooms, with the rest offering versatile setups to suit different guest needs. WiFi is available throughout, and all rooms feature 24-hour hot showers and electricity powered by solar energy with a backup generator.

Dining options include a chef-curated à la carte menu, with special outdoor dinners provided at no extra charge. For those seeking a truly unique experience, bush breakfasts or lunches on the crater rim can be arranged (with a ranger) for an additional fee. Guests can also enjoy hot lunches at the crater.

The property offers a range of thoughtful amenities, including public toilets, a gift shop, and spacious terraces with stunning views. Guests can choose between jungle or crater views at the same rate, though the crater view is truly breathtaking.

For honeymooners, the camp goes the extra mile with complimentary champagne, private dinners, singing, and special decorations. Night security ensures peace of mind, with guards escorting guests to and from their rooms after dark. During the day, guests can explore the property's numerous trails with a guard for a guided walk.

A unique highlight of this property is "Elephant John," a gentle, semi-domestic elephant who resides on-site and feels like part of the staff. Meeting him is an unforgettable experience!

Whether you’re here for the spectacular views, luxurious comfort, or a memorable connection to nature, this property offers something truly special.

For our last night on our safari, we decided to spend the night in a slightly more expensive accommodation than the previous nights. Lions Paw was worth every penny! First of all, its location is outstanding, at the rim of the crater, in a jungle like area, with a beautiful view over Ngorongoro. The apartment was unreal, big and modern, with nice furniture, a spacious bathroom with a nice shower, and a comfortable bed. As it can get quite cold in the evenings and at night, they supplied us a gas heater and a thermal blanket which were cozy and provided us with the best sleep. The staff is courteous and lovely. Dinner and breakfast were served buffet-style and it was so delicious! Best food we’ve had all safari (and food was great everywhere)! Also the drinks they served at the cozy bar were fancy and totally worth the money (fair prices). All in all, this accommodation is a real gem and totally recommendable! Asante sana

The location is breathtaking with a view of the crater from the terrace in front of the bar and restaurant. You feel like you're in the middle of the jungle. The journey was adventurous due to the previous rain on slippery muddy paths in the middle of the forest.
Due to the altitude and the associated climate, it can get chilly here. The rooms (wooden huts) are simply and practically furnished, lined with tent fabric on the inside for a camp feeling. Water is only available in a thermos flask so that you can make tea/instant coffee. However, the water is already so cold in the morning that the coffee no longer tastes good. Water is also available for brushing your teeth. However, you have to take drinking water from the bar. No food may be left in the room as dormice or bush rats will eat through everything. Our adult children had forgotten a protein bar in their backpack, but the little animals found it and ate it, leaving the entire backpack full of shit. Well, I can only say it was my own fault, the instructions from the lodge were clear. Gas stoves are set up in the room and electric blankets are switched on in the evening while you sit down for dinner, so that you can get into a cozy bed.
You are not allowed to go into the rooms alone after dark, as animals can come right up to the houses. We even saw buffalo and deer-like animals up there.
The staff are friendly, but not all of them speak English, so there are sometimes communication problems and unfortunately it is not possible to talk to those who accompany you to the huts.
The food is good, despite the buffet in warming containers, it does not taste of the fuel paste. There are 2 dinner times, you have to decide on one and then a reserved table is available for that time slot. The chef made a great effort to show all the dishes suitable for vegans. For the trip to the crater, our driver organized a delicious and sumptuous warm lunch for us in large containers. The crater can be reached by car in 15-20 minutes. I can absolutely recommend this accommodation. I would have liked to upload videos, but unfortunately that doesn't work.

Lion's Paw is a jewel amidst thick vegetation of acacia trees. Located on the Ngorongoro Crater's rim, one cannot ask for a more gorgeous location. The 24km drive towards the Lemala Gate from the Crater view point is nothing short of a magic with greenery blanket all around with a muddy road in the middle. The cold weather & the light showers made the surroundings surreal. The hot tea & snacks on arrival, warmed us up. The cottage was very spacious, super clean & utilitarian with state of the art amenities. Bathroom was well equipped & the sheer availability of hot water all thro, in the middle of nowhere was very convenient especially in the cold weather. The balcony deck had enchanting views of the Crater. We can never forget that one enthralling cold evening we spent ( post our Crater safari) just sitting in the deck, sipping hot masala tea & munching on popcorn whilst the temperature was dipping down.. The fascinating blue sky with its changing shades of blue & the silhouette of the tall acacias were eerily, silently super pretty.
Staff were very courteous. By the time we returned from dinner, our beds would be made, electric blanket would have been turned on & hear this - 2 hot water bags ( with a cute cover) would be filled & would be placed on the bed! What more do you need to keep oneself warm on a cold November night?!
One of the high points - The staff surprised us with a cake, song & dance for our 25th wedding anniversary! They just came out of nowhere & started to sing! What fun it was! Totally unforgettable. Heartfelt thanks to the Lion's Paw team for this very kind gesture.
There could have been more dishes in the breakfast spread. Unfortunately, there was this one not-so-pleasant encounter. In spite of confirming our vegetarian packed lunch before hand, during lunch when we opened, we realized that they had packed non-vegetarian lunch. We had to do with just juice & banana. We duly informed about this to the staff once we were back.
Except for the above, our stay at Lion's Paw was truly very decorous..

We arrived at sunset and the view from the deck over the crater was absolutely stunning! The staff offered us an incredibly warm welcome including juice and snacks during check-in, which was a nice touch. This lodge has an amazing location and view from the common buildings (the lounge and dining area) have been constructed and designed to take full advantage of it. (We were a little sorry we only had one night there and didn’t get to enjoy breakfast or lunch on the deck while taking in the view. It was dark when we went to dinner - our choice.) As a family of four, we considered ourselves very fortunate to get a family suite that was very thoughtfully designed with a shared sitting room between the two bedrooms. This allows you to check on the kids without going outside which is critical if you want to make sure they are up for a 6am game drive! One doesn’t normally think of being cold in Africa and yet at this elevation nights are chilly! Never fear though - each of the bedrooms had a heater and when we returned from dinner we found hot water bottles warming our beds! Combined with plenty of HOT water for our showers we stayed plenty warm. Everything in the room is beautifully appointed and it truly looks exactly like the pictures.

What the pictures do not capture is the warmth and attentiveness of all the staff who work at this property. Everyone who greeted us, who walked us to and from meals, helped with our bags, etc was smiling, happy, friendly and polite and was genuinely sincere in making sure that we were having a good time and that we had everything we needed.

Our safari company had arranged for us to have a “bush breakfast” prepared by the staff at Lion’s Paw and it did not disappoint. The setting they chose was beautiful and after we had worked up an appetite game driving since dawn we were treated to a wonderful and delicious hot breakfast complete with table service. It was an incredible experience and the food was amazing.

The chilly nights at this elevation are indeed a surprise for many, and we’re thrilled that the heaters, hot water bottles, and plenty of hot water for showers kept you warm and cozy. Your kind words about our staff are deeply appreciated. We’re so pleased that their warmth and attentiveness made your stay even more special. We loved our time at Lion’s Paw. The room was clean and well-furnished, and the service was exceptional - each night the turndown service would involve preparing an electric blanket, turning on the gas heater and placing hot water bottles in the bed. As it got rather cold at night, these thoughtful gestures were much appreciated. The food and drink was also amazing. We had the best food of our trip during our nights at Lion’s Paw. Special shout out to Godnester our server, who was always friendly and helpful.

Fantastic resort located on the Ngongoro crater ridge. The views from the restaurant and rooms are spectacular.
The excellent location of the hotel allows you to descend to the bottom of the crater and start the safari in 20 minutes.
The rooms are individual cabins and have a large terrace where you can appreciate the views of the crater, the wooded area where the resort is located and the passage of animals.
The service is extraordinary. We traveled with another couple and were assigned a personal waiter who took care of all our needs.
Both breakfast and dinner were excellent while for midday meals, while on safari, they are served with lunchbox with the hot food.
Fully recommended.

We stayed two nights at Lion’s Paw by Karibu. We drove from Acacia Tarangire to Lion’s Paw, which took about 7 hours, but that included a little game drive out of Tarangire. Lion’s Paw is on the northeast rim of Ngorongoro and a bit out of the way when travelling into the Serengeti, but we felt the location was worth it. It’s at the entry point into the crater, so there’s no crazy early morning to do the crater game drive. I liked that we stayed two nights, as it took a whole day to get there from Tarangire, but we had a more leisurely game drive in the crater because we didn’t need to rush off to a new location. This way, we enjoyed the delicious packed lunch in the crater and arrived in plenty of time to freshen up and enjoy a sundowner while watching playful baboons at the stunning patio before dinner.
The food is very good, and as with all the lodges we’ve been to, it is plentiful and of a good variety. Breakfast is a buffet, but dinner is served a la carte, with an excellent selection to meet your dietary needs.
Again, we asked to have a room further away from the main lodge, and our room, 25, was right on. However, I believe all the rooms would be perfect. Our bed was comfortable, the water was plentiful and hot, and the view was spectacular. It gets cold at night, so the lodge provides heated blankets and hot water bottles. You will be comfortably warm. Each morning, we enjoyed delicious coffee delivered to our room before we set out for breakfast. The view from the balcony is too beautiful to miss, and because we sat outside with our coffee, we could see some lovely birds.
We were lucky to be greeted by their resident elephant, John, on our second evening.

Very good service. The employees are polite respectful, kind and helpful.

The cottage we had was very clean and equipped with a radiator and a heating blanket it is very cold at night), bathroom products, a dryer, a flashlight and a walkie-talkie.

The food was very good, varied, and the portions were perfect. They offer 3-course suppers, a buffet for lunch and the lunch boxes are also very good including juice, lunch and a snack for later.

Finally, the hotel is very modern with a beautiful restaurant (very elegant restaurant), the location is perfect and Wifi is included. Oh! And the bathroom comes with running water.

You can check with them - we were able to pack a picnic breakfast for our early morning drive into the crater, which we enjoyed at a picnic site with tables and washrooms midway through our morning drive. I think our guide just pre-arranged it with them the day before.

HI, I am part of the Management. Lions paw is part of Karibu camps and lodges ltd. The camp can arrange for crater walks and Game drives as may be required thru third parties. (We use them regularly and there is a cost for this) The tent pictures on trip advisor are very old. This property was rebuilt in 2020 and all rooms are the new ones with wooden floors and balconies. To get the latest photos visit the website or search karibucamps online..

Looking to visit early February. Is it cold and what does the lodge supply to keep guests warm?

As people have said, it does get chilly at the elevation of the hotel. They have heaters in the rooms and heated blankets etc. You will be perfectly comfortable. Staff is amazing! Tip- take an extra suitcase full of clothes and shoes if you can. The staff everywhere you go will greatly appreciate it. Clothes and shoes are not easy to get and are expensive throughout many African countries. Also deflated soccer balls with a pump- they are so grateful for those things. Have an unforgettable trip!
