Less well known than its neighbour Freddie's, Dian Rana had everything I need for a 3-night stay. My bedroom was spacious (comfy double bed, dressing table, TV, air con) and the bathroom adequate (western loo, cold water shower with good pressure). There are lots of nice seating areas spread throughout the property i.e. Sofas, hammocks, sun loungers. I can't comment on the food because the restaurant was closed for Idul Fitri. However, I bought a big fish which we cooked on the BBQ. The property sits back from the beach which is reached by a 2 minute walk through pine trees, dodging cow pats! The beach is huge and whilst not really suitable for swimming, is great for a long walk enjoying the fresh air, the might of the ocean and of course surfer-watching.
Dian Rana is not a fancy hotel, but it's got soul! My husband is a surfer so he spent many days either walking or motorbiking out to the top surf spots and I whiled away the days, walking on the beach with the kids and relaxing. The simple, fresh fare from the kitchen was cheap and made to order and there is a nice communal area to hang out in during the day or evening. It was a surprisingly short taxi ride from the city of Banda Aceh, but it fells like you're out in the country. There is a beach which is a 30 minute rainforest walk which is very secluded, the main beach Dian Rana is near has lots of Acehnese weekenders coming to have some beach time, which is fun. There is another restaraunt doing suprisingly good woodfired pizzas, if you need a change. The real feather in Dian Rana's cap is the staff, especially Faisal, he can show you everything and makes time to help with anything you need.…
We had spent only one night at “Dianrana bungalow” on February, 2011 on our way to Pulau Weh, but, actually, liked being there. The owner of bungalows is very friendly guy and ready to help you with everything you need. As well, as the guys working at the bungalows and serving good food. There are about 10 rooms for your different needs at the different prices. And the location is just perfect, about 20 min to drive from center of Banda Aceh, just a few minutes from the Lampuk's beach in Tebing Empee Nulu area and approx.10 min walk from Monkmonk beach - very nice, secluded with beautiful nature surroundings. We are not surfers, but as we know lots of surfers come to “Dianrana bungalow” as the conditions are good for surfing here. Also for those, who are interested in jungle tours or tours around Banda Aceh, the owner of the hotel is ready to help and offer his own service. We highly recommend this place for travelers looking for beautiful nature and peaceful secluded place.…
