This hotel is very nice and we especially enjoyed it because it was quiet, I guessed at about half full.
The room was huge and has a twin sink which is perfect for my wife and I. The shower is good and a separate toilet area is a bonus.
The food is ok but a few members of staff would visibly ill which was a bit uncomfortable due to the Coronavirus concerns at the time of our visit. If I was the manager, I would have sent them home.
The pool area is nice and they gym was useful too.
The location isn't great but it's out of town so much quieter which for me is a bonus. You can easily rent e-bikes which was perfect.

I was fortunate to spend 3 days at Bagan Lodge in early March 2020. I enjoyed my stay immensely. The approxomately 775 sq. ft. Villa Room was spacious, well appointed, and very quiet. I was out exploring from sun-up to sun-down, so didn't have the opportunity to use many of the lodge facilities. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable. As in all of Myanmar, the best part about the lodge was the gracious, friendly, and smiling staff who were always eager to please. The Balloons over Bagan ride was the highlight of my stay. Bagan was perhaps my favorite stop in my 2 week tour of Myanmar.

Rooms very spacious, pool areas have plenty of sunloungers and shade for guests. Excellent happy hour(s). Gym and food also good. Service very friendly and helpful. The only slight drawbacks are that it is a little bit out of New Bagan and there is some noise at dawn from hot air ballons. Lovely grounds.

We stayed at Bagan Lodge for 2 nights. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. We arrived early and we were able to check in. Our room was beautiful. Large king sized bed, 2 cupboards. Large bathroom with a walk in shower. 2 sinks, power in the bathroom for a hairdryer Tons of storage, nice and dark at night. Good air conditioning plus a ceiling fan. We had laundry done, same day and really great quality

The bed was really comfortable. I cannot find anything to improve n the room

At the spa we had massages and facials - they were excellent. I would highly recommend the spa

Dinner at the bar, good food. Also a good happy hour 2 for 1. And the breakfast buffet was extensive. Highly recommend, great service and everyone who worked at the Bagan Lodge provided excellent service

Bagan Lodge is well appointed and well maintained. The rooms are large and comfortable. Beds are great Staff are very sweet and eager to please. Happy hour, very good gym, two pools and decent on site restaurant.

Bagan is a small magical town and there are no high rise big brand hotels so you have to choose something else And this is a good choice !

Bagan Lodge appears to be the beneficiary of a combination of low expectations and high profile media placements. Bagan is truly amazing, but it would be a shame to travel all this way (most of the patrons seem to be either North American or European) and opt for such a basic hotel when there is a truly spectacular option nearby at the exact same price point (Aureum Palace).

The hotel has a very modest roadside presence leading into a tastefully done (if not rather small) lobby. The rest of the property is nothing to write home about. The villas are two to a building, done in a style meant to evoke some sort of encampment (the theme seems to be one of adventure safari). It felt a bit like a marketing gimmick really.

Having read many of the effusive reviews, my wife and I were really disappointed once we began to get a feel for the place, particularly since we had just stayed in two absolutely magnificent properties elsewhere in Bagan. We even enquired about a refund if we were to leave the hotel about 30 minutes after check-in (something that I have never done in more than seven years of living in Asia), and were met simply with a 'we will charge you either way' and a coy smile. This is fair enough according to hotel policy, but not exactly what you're looking for from a purportedly well-run establishment. They might have at least asked what the problem was, or how they might be able to improve our stay...or perhaps if I would have liked to speak to the manager. None of the above took place, and even though they were clearly aware of our disappointment throughout the rest of the stay, no further inquiries were ever made...even at check-out. The staff, many of whom were very friendly and I'm sure trying their best, are not to be blamed...it simply speaks to poor training.

The list after that goes on...

- Breakfast spread is fine, but slightly worse than that at Aureum, where we stayed prior to Bagan Lodge
- Food is the same price as Aureum, and they offer almost the exact same fare. However, portions are much smaller, and the Burmese food is almost unrecognisably altered to suit western tastes. Restaurant service is really hit or miss...some very friendly and attentive staff, while others were kind of sullen and rather blaise.
- The spa is twice the price of Aureum and any of the other top quality hotels in which we stayed in Myanmar. No idea what they are doing with the pricing here, as we didn't find anything of the sort anywhere else in the country
- Rooms are fine, in fact they are probably the high point. Quality fit and finish, and a particularly nice bathroom. However, the furnishings are rather drab and the bedroom itself has the feeling of a bathroom with light blue tiled walls.
-The premises lacks character, as there is really nothing special about the plot of land that the hotel was built on. The back half of the hotel in particular has all of the atmosphere of a trailer park, and in some cases there are random pieces of out-of-use equipment sitting around next to the villas.

One of the biggest drawbacks is the fact that all of the buildings are one story, providing no views of anything whatsoever. It may be the case that the management/ownership failed to secure a permit for a building that could have provided spectacular views across Bagan, or that they simply chose to market the property in this way rather than provide guests with the potential views. Either way, it's not in the guest's favour.

I am sure that Bagan Lodge is a pretty significant upgrade over what was on offer a few years ago in Bagan, but at this price point, and with another spectacular option available which provides full immersion into the incredible landscape of Bagan, it's a miss. It's very rare that I give such negative reviews, but we really were truly disappointed with this place, and left feeling burned by slick marketing.

The biggest drawback for us on our visit was the fact that it is in an isolated area - there is nothing immediately around it, so if you want to venture out you need transport and taxis are not really an option on the outskirts of Bagan. We also found that everything closes down early in the hotel, including the restaurant and the bar, so there was little or no atmosphere there in the evenings. You can hire ebikes which, if you can handle the heat, are a great way to get about the temples during the day. However, be sure to check that they are fully charged, otherwise they will run out of juice as one of ours did in the middle of nowhere!

We did not find the reception staff overly friendly or warm on our arrival just very officious , yet the grounds staff and others were particularly friendly. There are two pools on site, one beside the restaurant and the bar and the other in the middle of the complex with a very small pool bar which did not seem to be operational. The spa was reasonably good and again the staff here were very friendly and welcoming.

On the occasion we stayed there was a hotel photo / drone shoot taking place for an updated brochure, so there was some disruption on site and the pool was not accessible on occasions. Perhaps what was more interesting was the extent of the 'changes' / props which were being put in place for the photo shoot. Not least of which were some fourteen torch lights around the pool in the evening, matching sun beds etc. I can't help thinking if this is how you want the hotel to look then why not put these things in place and not simply roll them in for the photo shoot?!

If you are looking for a good base from which to explore the surrounding area, are happy with early nights and not too fussed about the limited dinning options, then Bagan Lodge may indeed suit you. The rooms are comfortable without perhaps the luxury touch, but that's fine and there is a verandah where you can sit out, not that there is anything to see.

Just important to know the set up before you get there and to manage expectations. Not really our cup of tea.

Hi Michael - I was a guest so maybe you need to contact the hotel directly. The hotel is just outside New Bagan, which is about 5-6 Km from the majority of temples. Electric bikes can be hired from the hotel for $8 per half day and because of the heat are highly recommended. They're very easy to operate.
