My husband and I spent a night here in April, and it completely exceeded our (already high) expectations. The house and grounds are just beautiful. Rooms are larger, and the snooker room is a great touch. But the real highlight is Christine, she provides a wonderful, personal service, and the breakfast was excellent. They are also very dog friendly. We are already planning to go back and can’t wait!

Lovely, peaceful and relaxing stay. All of the staff are kind and friendly. Fabulous tasty homemade breakfast. Great walks had down to the river. Missing Barney, Spencer and Turkey bird. We can’t wait to go back and visit again.

We were a family group of eight full size plus a two year old. Having originally reserved rooms in the main house, via the delightful host Christine, we eventually managed to secure the adjacent farm house, on the same estate and managed by Christine. The location could not have been more perfect for us - some somber family business plus a chance for us to be together and explore. The cozy, comfy, traditional house, surrounding gardens and grounds are lovely and worth exploring (in the company of super friendly and playful dogs from the house). Most of all the warmth and hospitality shown by Christine was touching and appreciated by us all. We will be coming back.

Where do I start,Christine you are the most wonderful lady and host ever, you bent over backwards and beyond. We arrived very tired from a day at beamish museum we was welcomed by Christine and was offered tea and biscuits in the sitting room to be then asked how we would like our breakfast in the morning plus a little in sight to the beautiful home. We then was taken to our choice of rooms but we was so happy with the 1st room we took this, was huge loverly huge bed and yes amazingly comfortable , had a lovelry bathroom with waterfall bath and a walk in rain shower. Tea coffee and even a coffee pod and biscuits. The dog was so welcomed and we loved Christine's 2 springer spaniels . The grounds are just amazing and even have wild deer. Christine also booked an Italian for us that was highly recommended. Breakfast was just beautiful. I could keep going . We will be back soon so sorry to leave this delightful place . Thank you again

We stayed one night for my son's graduation ceremony at Durham Cathedral, which is only a £15 taxi ride away. A magnificent country house and grounds and a kind, generous and interesting host in Christine made us very glad we chose it. We stayed in "Double room-Standard-Ensuite with Bath-Countryside view" and it was supremely comfortable and large with wonderful views over the grounds. Breakfast was great, and Christine has just had an 7KW EV charger fitted which she let us use the following day whilst in Durham before leaving that day, as another EV driver had just nabbed it before we arrived the day before.

If you would like a weekend away from it all, relaxing in beautiful surroundings, with all your needs catered for..... This is the place. We stayed for 2 nights and we can only echo all of the positive comments made. Our perfect host, Christine, made us so welcome and we loved having Barney and Spencer as our enthusiastic guides around the grounds. Our bedroom was so cosy and everywhere was absolutely spotless. That, and delicious breakfasts, again, only 1 word, perfect. If you want to pop into Durham, it's an easy drive, or, bus from Lanchester. I read somewhere, if you forget and leave something behind where you have stayed it means you want to return. I left 4 things!

Burnhopeside Hall is a gem. It is a small country house in acres of grounds that include lawns, and, further afield, free range hens and rare breed pigs. Two friendly house dogs showed me the way through the fields to the nearby river. Christine is a wonderful hostess. She cooks the large tasteful breakfasts herself, using as many items from the farm as possible. Her family have owned the house for generations. My bedroom was huge and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was ultra modern, with a large shower cubicle and one end and a bath at the other end. I was working in Cook, and staying at Burnhopeside Hall was an unexpected treat.

We chose this charming B&B for a five-day trip. We couldn't have done better; a lovely spacious listed property in extensive grounds with a charming owner. Our bedroom was traditionally furnished with a modern bathroom. The sitting room was available to guests at any time and, on return in the afternoon, Christine would offer tea that would arrive with biscuits or a slice of home-made cake. To create space between guests, breakfast was spread out among three rooms, each of which had views into the grounds. You ordered it the day before and choices included sausages from the farm pigs and their own eggs. We are cat people but we enjoyed being taken for walks by Barney and Spencer their two spaniels. Sticks had to be thrown for them all the way and into the river. They seemed to have endless energy. Thank you, Christine and the team, for making us so welcome. We hope to visit you again.
