Five Acre Barn is a contemporary bed and breakfast/ holiday rental with a nineteenth century barn at its core. Five guest suites are set in a cedar shingle extension each room with a bright, Scandi feel - all en suite of course. Based in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Suffolk Coast we provide a calm, relaxing base from which to explore this beautiful part of the UK. With so many walks on our door step we are of course dog friendly.

We have waited over three years to return to this amazing property and see how Bruce and David had enhanced the offering. A special personal welcome is assured by the owners with scones/cake and tea/coffee. The “white” garden in the front was in full flower and the “wild” garden at the back displayed some wonderful grasses in particular. A joy to sit on the patio and dream and pick out occasional bird song. We found the property in good order with the barn now complete with an added honesty bar. Covid requirements included copious sanitizer and options on where you ate, inside or outside the property (to allow for social distancing) but the hosts worked easily in this changed environment. Bruce cooked (by arrangement) an excellent cod and lentil dish and David made the tasty dessert on our first evening so that we did not have to worry about what was open locally. David’s penchant to provide excellent cakes and scones continues with Bruce providing a splendid varied breakfast of your choice. Eating out options are increasing daily but if you do not feel inclined to prebook a restaurant the Aldeburgh Fish and Chips provided a popular and tasty option. (Note the Adnams pub next to the Fish and Chip shop - The White Hart Inn - provides take away pizza and was also obviously popular. Queuing necessary for both. Bruce and David will apprise you of the restaurant options locally, that we would liked to have tried: The Unruly Pig, Lighthouse or Butley Oysterage for example, given more time. The B&B is convenient to explore the varied and interesting Suffolk coast (Minsmere RSPB reserve just 10 minutes away is a big draw for us) but the garden and local walks may be enough for some. Overall Five Acre Barn and it’s design, rain shower, breakfast and easy going hosts make this a “must go” destination. Look forward to our next visit and seeing how other garden projects have developed - Japanese/Zen garden.

Absolutely gorgeous comfortable B&B, perfectly run by David and Bruce. Contemporary decor, with beautiful art and collectables in guest rooms and communal areas. Five Acre barn is set in wonderful gardens and in July were in full flower. With little outside decking areas adjacent to each room, it was very easy to sit in the sunshine and watch the bees and butterflies buzzing around the tall grasses. As well as a well stocked honesty bar, there was always cake available on return from a day out. Breakfast offerings were varied, plentiful and with the addition of home made sourdough bread and David's marmalade truly scrummy. Our room (2) was very comfortable, quality bed linen and toiletries and with the mezzanine floor felt very spacious. Some lovely walks direct from the house to Aldeburgh and Thorpeness were an added bonus. And rarely found in hotels, a hairdryer not attached to the wall, that although small, was very powerful, thank you guys! There is so much to do and see in this part of Suffolk, we will be back soon.

We had a lovely stay in a comfortable, modern and stylish environment. The rooms are set in a wonderful new reclaimed pasture garden with views to the fens. The shared space for breakfast and living room is immaculate with an open stove fire and decorated with modern paintings and pottery. Breakfast was 'the best' and prepared in an open kitchen in the dining area. Our hosts were very efficient and even better, good company!

Thank you David & Bruce for making our stay so enjoyable, we all had a fabulous time. Everything was spot on, we loved exploring the gardens and feeling inspired by the planting, the pond and Japanese garden. The breakfasts, homemade cakes and all those little extra touches made our holiday very special - and after extended lockdown it was just the tonic we needed!
Agree with other reviewers, this was one of the best - if not the best B&B we have stayed in. thank you both for your kindness, hospitality and humour, we look forward to returning.

We have just come back from the most glorious weekend with friends! Honestly I couldn't have wished for a more fabulous place to stay. Everything was perfect. From the room/bedlinen/enormous fluffy towels/home made biscuits ready with coffee and tea in the room/ the honesty bar, and the totally delicious breakfast. Just everything was exactly as I had hoped it would be, and I'm super fussy after being lucky enough to have loads of weekend's away and staying in loads of the Pig Hotels, Limewood and other great places. 5 Acre Barn is right up there. We loved it so much that we've taken it over for a weekend next year to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday.

We had a fantastic stay with Lola, Ruby, David and Bruce. The rooms are beautiful, the barn is stunning (I now have serious kitchen envy) and the location is great. The attention to detail is phenomenal - proper size towels, gorgeous toiletries, robes, biscuits - couldn’t have asked for more. Breakfast was great with special mention to Bruce’s eggs benedict.

Five Acre Barn is an absolute gem! Such attention to detail from start to finish - the stylish, contemporary rooms and building, looking out onto a beautiful cottage garden, a friendly meet and great over tea and cake with hosts Bruce and David, in fact a different cake freshly home baked each day for returning guests! And the breakfast - amazing.
So much thought goes into Five Acre Barn and is a total credit to Bruce and David.
We were there as a family with our two children (12 & 14) who also loved it). And lots to do in the area, of course.
Our room and bathroom was also wheelchair friendly which I thought was a clever and thoughtful touch to their planning.
We will definitely return.

We were a party of 6 relatives/friends, visiting Suffolk to attend a concert at Snape Maltings as part of the Aldeburgh Festival. 5 Acre Barns had been on my sister's bucket list for some time, so this was the perfect occasion to combine a stay with our concert. We reserved 3 rooms.
I cannot praise Bruce & David enough for the excellent experience they offer to their visitors, from the warmth of their welcome to the attentive, understated care & attention they offered throughout our stay.
First class accommodation, contemporary, comfortable & flooded with light. All rooms were thoughtfully appointed. Upmarket toiletries, hairdryer, quality towels & bedding. The sleeping area (kingsized beds with good mattresses) is situated on a mezzanine with a comfortable contemporary sitting area downstairs. Glass doors overlook a lovely garden. Each room has a separate outdoor seating area to relax at the end of the day with a glass of something nice.
A warm welcome with tea & delicious homemade cakes & shortbread. Bruce & David take the time to chat and get to know their guests, offering helpful suggestions for local restaurants and places of interest. There's a guest lounge in the main building with an honesty bar and use of a fridge for your own supplies.
Breakfasts are certainly a highlight. A great choice on offer, freshly cooked to a high standard.
There are lovely walks direct from 5 Acre Barns as well as charming coastal villages to explore. Lots of culture on offer in the area. We particularly enjoyed visiting The Red House, home of Benjamin Britten. We only scratched the surface, so if you can put up with us again, we certainly like to plan a return visit. I just hope that guests don't tell too many people what a find this place is. It's definitely a secret worth keeping.

An absolutely superb place to stay and beautifully placed on the Suffolk coast with easy access to Aldborough and Southwold, Woodbridge and Sutton Hoo, Framlingham and more. The rooms are comfortable and very well equipped, each with space to sit outside beside the wild garden; beds excellent. Breakfasts are sumptuous and very well-organised and tea and cake are available for new arrivals and/or at the end of packed days of sightseeing. Above all, the hosts are very friendly, full of ideas for where to go and of good humour, too; such fun to hang out and share travellers' tales with that we had to tear ourselves away on our last morning for the long drive back north. My only caution would be that all rooms except no.5 have toilet facilities downstairs from the beds which are on a sort of mezzanine. While this is both architecturally attractive and a blessing for those of us who, like me, tend to stay up longer and/or get up earlier than our partner, it also means a woozy descent of stairs (bannister provided to hang onto!) if you need to visit the loo during the night, a consideration when you're our age! But I wouldn't want this to discourage anyone from staying at Five Acre Barn, quite simply one of the very best guest houses we've ever known in our many travels and, for what it offers, outstanding value! Thankyou so much for a memorable few days, Bruce and David...
