We are the small hotel Matsushima, located on a hill overlooking the bay of the three most scenic spots in Japan, Pride of our hotel is kind customer service, delicious meals, and cozy bedrooms.

We booked room 201, which gives excellent view over Matsushima's best islands. This building is rather Alpine style, not that Japanese. Free parking by the hotel. Staff is very friendly and active to help you anytime you are going or coming. Room isn't that big and own bathroom is really small. However, next to reception there are two big bathrooms, where you can have really enjoyable bath, 50min private time 'first come - first serve'-basics. Short walk to Matsushima tourism areas, uphill return is not that bad as we (coming from very flat area) first thought. We had not booked meals in advance, but on second evening we enjoyed their excellent modernized kaiseki meal - that was simply wonderful. Really great accommodation, not ryokan, not modern chain-hotel, just style of its own.…

Despite the European feel of this hotel (It will not look out of place if one were to stage Romeo and Juliet here), the beauty surrounding this hotel is decidedly Japanese. Ancient temples, fiery red bridges, sakura blossoms in Spring and coastal fare all year round. If you want to see what made Basho wax lyrical over Matsushima, stay here for a night and look out your window. Or better yet, climb the winding staircase leading up to a turret-like area, sit on the hugh chair provided and be ready to carry a sling to support your gaping jaws people! As dusk descends the Moon ascends and spreads her ethereal pale fingers over the islands. Their silhouettes will like black pearls glow, with a dusky sheen. The water then becames a mirror that will only reflect what is the true beauty of the night -- no not Juliet -- as gorgeous as she might have been to the hormonal teenage Romeo -- no, nothing so earthly as there. Instead it is the eternal elegance of my dear Lady Silver Moon. (There is also a very intriguing giant iron jar where people climb in to get cooked...soaked in hot water in the bathing area.) …

We stayed for one night in September 2012. Upon reservation, the hotel indicates that you can call them when you arrive at Matsushima train station and they will pick you up (there is a very steep slope to the hotel). Well, we clled and they did not pick us up because they said check in was at 3pm (it was 11 am). I told that I just wanted to leave the luggage, they hung up. So we walked the steep slope under the sun... We reserve a Japanese breakfast for the next morning (they said only Japanese was available). In the morning, there was no reservation for us, but they finally offered a ... Western breakfast. The waiter had stains on his shirt. Although we had paid the room by credit card the day before, we had to pay cash for breakfast, no explaination was provided. The rooms are incredibly small. The views are quite good though on the sea side. The bathroom (not onsen) is OK. They drove us to the station in the morning. Quite poor overall.…

located at an elevated highway side, this hotel is a very unique and intriguing place. Small, neat and has a very friendly staff and owner. Great food and nice view of the bay.
