What a hidden gem!!!!

We celebrated our marriage at Phefumula Country Retreat and will definitely go again in the future. The staff are very friendly and professional and the quality of service was of the highest standard. Jenni even went so far as to surprise my wife and I with a bottle of champagne for our first breakfast.

The room we stayed in (Leopard Leap) was wonderful and very pretty with the most beautiful view of the mountains when sitting in the bath.

The fire place made it nice and cosy at night as well as assist with a romantic atmosphere.

and the food... to not even get started with the food!! Who knew there were michelin star chefs out in a country retreat? The food was AMAZINGLY delicious and more than one could eat, so certainly worth the money.

Overall we rate Phefumula a 10/10 and would definitely recommend it to others

It's simply the perfect getaway destination for two. Great value for money especially in the Rhino Fields unit where you have great privacy and space. The plunge pool is a rare find, much like everything else here. Though self-catering, the option of having food delivered is also a must. Whether it be a served 3 course meal or a picnic backpack for day time snacking, it's really so impressive. Only criticism, and it's a slight one, when hiking up into the mountain, you need to pay attention to the paths otherwise you may have a slightly longer walk than hoped. Will certainly return soon.

We spent my partner's birthday weekend at Phefumula's Rhino Fields cottage. The cottage is spacious, well laid out, & has everything that one could need for a romantic few days away, including a flower-strewn bed & lots of candles everywhere. We loved the covered stoep with the built-in braai, as well as the little splash pool & outside bathtub. Once the rain set in properly on Friday night, neither the outside bath nor the pool got as much use as I'd hoped but the comfy couches next to the inside fireplace certainly did. We were provided with a steady supply of firewood to keep the damp at bay & we spend a very happy couple of days in our own company. I'm sorry that we didn't get to eat our picnic up the mountain as we originally planned, but maybe next time. My only criticism: the lights in the kitchen could be a bit brighter.

We highly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.
Although a short drive from Joburg, you feel like you are miles away in this very secluded spot. It felt like it was just us and the mountain. The understated luxury including the jacuzzi, bath with sunset views and the in-house massages exceeded our expectations. The catered meals were the essence of home cooked South African comfort food and highly enjoyed.

We loved the quirky and very comfortable decor style at the Frisky Zebra cottage, we had all we needed and more for an amazingly restful stay, loved the jacuzzi, the bath for 2 in the bedroom and large rustic shower and above all the privacy.
Paradise Mobile Spa came and treated us to a Swedish Full Body massage, Ester and Grace were fantastic, my husband said the best massage he had in years - excellent service - thanks to the driver Richard too.
We had also ordered the 3 course Dinner for 2 which was delicious and a big spoil for us. Thanks to great hosts Jenni and Dave were very helpful and very kindly loaned us a Bluetooth speaker for our stay.
Definitely highly recommended for a romantic getaway, relaxing time in the country with beautiful up close views of the mountains to the North and the valley to the South.

my two best friends and I recently enjoyed staying at Rhino Fields from the 9th - to the 11th of August 2023. What a beautiful well-equiped cottage with everything we needed! Small things like, fire wood, ice in the freezer, tea, coffee and fresh milk in the fridge awaited us on arrival.

We stayed in Frisky Zebra and were really amazed with the attention to detail in the cottage. Beautiful views all round and truly secluded if you want a complete private weekend with your spouse.
We loved every moment of it and will be back again!
A warm jacuzzi was waiting for us on our arrival and the king size bed was amazing. We did not make use of the catering service. The kitchen has everything you need for self catering. Robes and towels are provided too so no need to take your own.
We can really recommend this hidden gem!

We were completely secluded the entire weekend but Jenni was always available for any queries.
The house with the fire place was just magical and the jacuzzi, even in the middle of Winter, was an absolute treat. Our bodies, minds and souls got the reboot they really needed! Thank you! From booking to checking out, the entire experience was wonderful :)

We had a lovely time at Phefumula. We went with the idea that we will have dinner at nearby restaurants, well, there is no nearby restaurants. Jenni and her team truly helped us out and the food was absolutely amazing. They set the table and everything.

We woke up the 1st morning with the sounds of 4 horses grazing near our unit, they were beautiful.

Thank You Jenni and team

If you are looking for a secluded retreat with tranquility. This is your place. We absolutely love phefumula for its still quite tranquility. The cottage is spacious with a living room with a fire place. On the portch ( extra living space) there is jacuzzi which is an added bonus to help you relax. The kitchen is well fitted with utensils for your self catering needs, plus you can order in breakfast or dinner if you like. Overall good value for money.
