Orchha was the experience we were looking for. Staying with mukesh's family, his 3 kids and his mother, was a window into life in small town india. the kids were extremely helpful and fun to play with, and kamela (the grandmother) cooked up some delicious vegetarian meals. This is the place to stay when visiting Orccha. The rooms are rustic,... More

It's so encouraging for us to get reviews like this. We will certainly share it with Mukesh's family and Romi too, who has joined us only recently. We try to balance authenticity and comfort and the families benefit so much from the encounter with people from all over the world. Do keep in touch and come again sometime. More

Asha had warned that late June would be very hot. In fact, activities had to be limited to before 10 am in the morning and after 5pm in the evening. And there were frequent power cuts and general water shortage. We still made the most of it. We were staying with Mukesh's family - four of us - me and... More

Thanks so much for this beautiful, warm-hearted review. I was worried about how you would manage in the heat. So glad that Neetu, Vishal and Sahil's company made up for the climate, that you liked Kamala's cooking and enjoyed the swim and walks with Surendra. The Betwa is such a lovely, wild river and having lived on its banks as... More

We spent 3 night in the home stay. Was a beautiful experience ... We highly recommend to everyone. We found a good, funny and helpful family and Romi is doing a very good management job. We spent time with the family and we chatted with them lot even if there are a lot of lingual barriers. We had the possibility... More

Many thanks for your appreciation of our work and your good wishes. It's great that you could communicate with your host family despite their limited English and enjoyed the food they prepared. Over the years, both children and adults in Ganj have come to view our guests as friends rather than people whom they can get things from. And they... More

It is very hard to describe in words the wonderful time we had here. We stay 5 nights and we could stay easily another. We connect very well with the family that received us. We were traveling with our little daughter (2 years and a half) and she had a wonderful time with the other kids. We shared so much... More

It was so nice to have you there and to see your little one playing with the children of the family. I'm putting a picture of her with her friends on this site. The homestay experience becomes meaningful when you stay longer and spend time with the family as you did. They learned a lot from you too, I'm sure.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay! The homestay was located in a rural village location with was quaint and quiet. The rooms were clean and the homemade food delicious. Authentic is the word that comes to my mind because the hosts received us warmly and treated us like 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. Made available bicycles which was fun, food was great and most fun was sleeping in a mosquito net; brought back childhood memories.

Thanks so much for your appreciation of the welcome you received and the fun and food. There's plenty to explore on bikes in and around Orchha - the Nature Reserve and the villages on the outskirts. We can also organise visits to organic farms. Our guests soon become our friends and we're always happy to see them again. More

My partner and I had the privilege of staying with a lovely family in Orchha. They were warm and friendly and I swear this is the way travellers should be staying in different cities. I guess my luck was bad. There was no water from the shower hose despite the host saying that there was water. I have to squat and use the tap with a pail to shower. As there was no hot water and it was inefficient to use the small pail, I can't get rid of the soap off my body... More

I'm sorry you had so many problems at the homestay but I assure you that they are very rare. We do not have running hot water but, according to the host family, the tank over the bathroom was full so there should have been cold water in the shower and taps. Perhaps the amount of hot water they provided was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Stay with a local family & discover India differently. Orchha is a great place to relax in and discover 16th century monuments. We offer clean and comfortable rooms, furnished in traditional style, built in the courtyard of the host family. The rooms have fans and mosquito nets and the bathroom & toilets are ecological. The family provides home-cooked food and kids have plenty of playmates. The home-stay is a 25 minute walk from the palace. We also have bicycles on rent. This is a social enterprise allowing poor families to benefit from tourism and visitors to see how most families in India live today. Call it responsible tourism or eco tourism - your visit will improve the lives of many and be an experience to remember. ... more   less
