#1 of 1 farmhouse in Kobarid

At the foot of the mighty Mount Matajur above the village of Livek, you will find the Jelenov breg tourist farm in the hamlet of Avsa. Once you reach the edge of the village where the farm is located, you will be treated to a magnificent view of the Krn mountain range (Krnsko pogorje). The Medves family who live on the farm have devoted their hearts and souls to their work there, which is well-demonstrated by the guests who keep returning to their farm. Culinary enthusiasts will undoubtedly enjoy their lunch and dinner, prepared in the old-fashioned, farm way. The farm breeds game animals in pens, which is why venison specialties often adorn the dinner table. Guests staying at the farm can choose to live in an apartment or in a log cabin. If you wish, you can have a full-blown picnic at the farm. Your hosts will be happy to accompany you on a hike, including ascents to the nearby mountain peaks as well as visits to museums, milking demonstrations and the making of cheese and cottage cheese from cow's milk. They will also gladly recount interesting stories about hunting in Slovenia. The Medves family ascribes great importance to the teaching of younger generations, which is why they organise a summer camp for boys and girls aged 8 to 13 so as to show them the beauties of nature. The children get to know nature, animals, farm chores and the like, and in doing so, have fun in each other's company.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Wonderful farm stay up in the mountains. Gorgeous location and views, sweet friendly hosts, fresh homemade food with ingredients from their farm, cute deer, ponies, ducks and other farm animals, with simple clean rooms; all around great stay. My daughter loved feeding the deer!

After finding this on trip advisor we booked it and looked forward to it. It is a little off the beaten track but an essential visit. The little house that we stayed in could be compared to Goldilocks with a double and 2 singles up stairs and a single in the lounge/ kitchen that also had a microwave and heater and fridge. The restaurant was unbelievable and the meal amazing. With a cheese dumpling starter, turnip soup, salad, venison stew and apple strudel followed by schnapps. We were stuffed. The hosts are amazing. It was the highlight of our stay in Slovenia.

My friend and I called to make sure if there's enough space for us before driving up the way, not knowing yet what amazing experience awaits us. When we arrived everbody was very welcoming and showed us where we can park our car, as we slept inside of it. We sat down at the tables outside with a beautiful view and got an excellent dinner! We ordered a salad, a cheesesoup and shared the dumplings - these were the best I've ever eaten! You can really taste the love they put in their food, in generell the whole family is very, very kind. After a quiet night we ordered breakfast the next day and it exceeded our expectations - We still dream of the fried eggs haha! Sadly we had to leave after breakfast but we'll definitely come back on our next Slovenia trip! We highly recommend this beautiful place! Thanks for this amazing experience, we are looking forward to see you again, Carla and Charlotte

Even in a foodie paradise like Slovenia, this family-run restaurant gives a new meaning to the farm-to-table experience. The outdoor tables are literally IN the farm. At one point a roving miniature horse decided to help himself to the lettuce garden and was politely sent back to the pasture. You can visit the other horses, pigs and fowl while you wait for the next course to be delivered. No printed menus. Aljoša explains what's fresh today, while his wife and mom do the cooking. Starter of fresh picked wild garlic and skutin cheese spread, with local cheese from the lower pastures where the cows stay in winter. Followed by choices for both vegetarians and meat-eaters, everything unbelievably fresh and well prepared. We couldn't choose between the pear pie and the local version of struklji for dessert, so we had both, followed by a choice of local schnapps. A memorable outdoor feast. The dining room is also pleasant, filled with local artifacts from World War I and original beekeeping panels. I came here on a tour arranged by local expert Meeting Mountains. While Kobarid is famous for the world class cooking at Hiša Franko, a visit to this local family that cooks with love shows where Slovenia's gourmet chefs get their inspiration.

They were very kind when we were returning from our hiking on Matajur and served us excellent homemade lunch, even though we came unannounced. The owners were very hospitable and the ambient is very nice. We also met their very cute donkey. Very much recommended.

Even though the location is up a mountain, the drive down to the gorges is really quick! We stayed in a cabin by the ponies and sheep. The cabin itself is a bit dated but having a hot shower, comfortable beds is enough just to have tremendously unbelievable views of the green hills below you and the Julian Alps before you. You hear bleating, crowing, chirping living on this mountain farm. The family who runs this property are very warm as well as excellent cooks! One night we had pork loin ? with creamy mushroom sauce and a toasty type of apple turnover. I believe you can set up tents if you are backpacking through - I only wish I had more time to explore this special property.

This location was the best of my whole travel in Slovenia. The host family was so nice giving me all the advice to enjoy my stay in the area. The location is just great, in the middle of the mountains, far from the noise of the cities.. the real nature !! Also you can eat local food, which is different every day and delicious.. and well served at very reasonable prices. It was hard to leave this place.
