We had booked afternoon tea at this hotel when visiting the Lake District. Beautiful hotel and views. Very clean. Amazing grounds and views. Nice big car park, But the Afternoon Tea itself was not that good. That’s why I’ve given it 4/5 stars. There were 6 of us but the layout of the afternoon tea was not very organised. I’m not sure why they couldn’t bring 6 trays one between each 2 people to share rather than putting all the food in different places all randomly mixed together so it took a while for the 6 of us to count everything and see who gets what. That’s not what you would expect from a posh afternoon tea in a nice hotel so it was a bit disappointing. The scones were very nice fresh and warm with clotted cream and jam but the quality of the sandwiches and the cakes were not great so we all mainly ended up eating the scones only. Very good service.

If only the management could organise the weather, as well as the hotel. We had a really great stay here, lovely room, great food, lots of comfortable communal space, and all this underpinned by staff who were helpful, attentive, efficient and kind. No member of staff ever walked past without speaking, very attentive at all times. We felt very well looked after. We had our dog with us. She was welcomed everywhere we went and it just added to the feeling we were ‘at home’. Thank you very much. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

We arrived in the most awful weather, wet and windy so it was lovely to seek sanctuary in this beautiful hotel for a light lunch. We sauntered through to the Orangery past the beautiful bar and lounge areas, all over looking the lake and fells beyond. We were sat at a table looking out to the beautiful vista. We were shown the menus promptly and it did not take us long to make our choices. The drinks were brought to us served in immaculate glasses and the wine and shandy were both refreshing. Our options of tuna and mayonnaise / prawn in Marie rose sauce sandwiches were of the highest quality and deliciously served in fantastic salad and home cut crisps. It was extremely quiet the day we ventured in and the service was very polite and not rushed at all. Actually it was really slow, but we were not in any hurry, though it was rather a lengthy spell between us ordering and receiving our lunches. The views towards the lake and fells are sublime and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We will most definitely return as it is so picturesque and the food is fantastic.

The hotel is in a perfect position on the lake - the views were breath-taking. We were so lucky to get an upgrade with our package and we had a lake view room - I could have spent all day sitting at the window looking at the lake and the mountains. The bed was enormous and so comfortable! The room was spacious and had a lovely little sitting area. The food in the Lake restaurant was to die for! The service was impeccable too! Breakfast was delicious and we were so well looked after! I cannot fault this hotel - a stay to remember!

We stayed 4 nights at the Inn on the lake. We have stayed before and it was really nice then but we noticed it has been upgraded and refurbished again which is always good to see. The hotels in this group always seem to be continuously investing in their properties so they never look shabby or dated. The bar & lounge areas were very tastefully decorated to a high standard with quality furnishings, in a modern country house style but retaining the character of the building. The room we had recently been refurbished. It had a beautiful ensuite shower room with a separate dressing area. Again thus was furnished to a very high standard with quality furnishings. The staff were all amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them. We ate in the lake view restaurant, the orangery and had lunch in the Ramblers bar. Breakfast was served in the lake view restaurant and when ever possible we were given a table overlooking the gardens and lake. The dinner menu in the Lake view restaurant was excellent and was as good as some Michelin star restaurants we have eaten in both in presentation and choice. The menu in the orangery and bar was less formal but of excellent quality. The location is perfect for the many walks & no need to move the car. Also only a few hundred yards from the Ullswater steamers. We can highly recommend this hotel and all the others in thus group.

We have been visiting for over 20 years! The changes have been phenomenal, including three complete refurbishments and the building extension Orangery. New terraces provide stunning lake views and there is extensive seating for all to enjoy!

A family trip to reacquaint our 90 year old father with his favourite lakeland haunts. The Inn on the Lake was the perfect setting providing an up market but very relaxed base to explore from. Probably the best hotel and certainly best bedroom view I can remember. The lake view rooms are definitely worth the extra cost. The staff were very attentive and having flagged a GF diet requirement for one of our party, that was catered for throughout our stay without us having to mention it or remind anyone. Will definitely be back for another stay.

Gorgeously relaxing atmosphere! Would absolutely return again! Love the food (although dinner portions were a little small!), & we felt really nice home. The grounds are stunning, & perfect for taking pictures.

We enjoyed our stay. It's in a fabulous location by Ulswater and perfect for many walks. We enjoyed the lovely lounge areas as the weather was rainy so we relaxed with a coffee and read our books with the fabulous view. Breakfast was gorgeous with high quality items and our dinner was delicious.

Another very comfortable and enjoyable short stay allowing us to do a bit more exploring of the local area. Friendly international staff. I’m sure we’ll be back to enjoy more of the excellent food on offer.
