We stayed here after visiting the Aquarium, we hadn't planned to stay but after having our lunch in this lovely wee hotel, we felt so relaxed we decided to see if they had availability. The receptionist who is called Melanie, couldn't have been nicer. I had searched earlier in the day to see if their family room was available and online it was but when we went to ask Melanie to reserve this for us she said it wasn't free, however she did give other options and when I mentioned the family room availability she said to give her 5 mins and she would check it out turned out there was a glitch in their system and it was indeed free, so were able to stay in this very spacious room, with bunk beds for our children, they loved it !! Thank you to Melanie for her help she is a credit to the hotel and such a helpful and pleasant member of you staff. We had both lunch and dinner here, the lunch was beautiful however the dinner was just OK, bits of it were cold and not very nice, but that would not put us off coming back.

The hotel itself is a little dated but it has such great character. I must say how impressed were were at how clean it was and after being closed for so long during COVID-19, they had stickers on all the bedroom doors indicating that all the rooms had been deep cleaned and when we entered the room it was spotless. There are no tea making facilities in the room (normally there are) but again Melanie said if we wanted them she would bring them up to us.

The only negative thing I would say is while having our evening meal it the bar area as the restaurant wasn't open, a few of the local lads appeared and were very loud and the language they used in-front of children had a lot to be desired!! I did have to tell the staff (Erin was the waitress )who were extremely apologetic and was so lovely and did ask the men to quieten down but the request was ignored. We had to move tables twice and then ended up in the reception area to have our dessert, don't get me wrong I don't mind people having fun and a laugh but just be aware this is a family hotel.

Having said that we will be back for sure. thank you for a lovely stay

Sail Away Experience Highly Recommend. We were a group of 4 on the Sail Away experience which was excellent. We checked in early and at 2pm we met our fellow ship mates in the bar for welcome drinks. Mary and the team were outstanding in terms of the hospitality provided. We boarded the boat and were given drinks of our choice and snacks. We then were given a platter of lovely food with paper plates and cutlery provided. The boat trip lasted 2 hours and it was a lovely tour around Stratford lough. We met lovely friendly people on the trip and really enjoyed it. When we returned to the hotel we had time to change and freshen up and then we had a really gorgeous 2 course dinner. The food was very well presented and tasty. The room we were in had a sea view but was quite small but the other members of our party were in room 8 which was very spacious and had a fabulous sea view. We were in 7. The breakfast had lots of options and was very well prepared and presented and the service was relaxed and professional. Many thanks to Mary and all the team for a wonderful experience The hotel is beautifully located and it is an old hotel which has lots of character. I found it to be very clean and tidy and really enjoyed the visit.

The food here is phenomenal, had a beautiful dinner here and was very impressed. We also got tickets to the live entertainment which was enjoyable. The room on the other hand wasn't the best. This is an older building so it can be expected that there aren't plug sockets near the beds, however the TV also wasn't working and although we had booked a double room, we were given a room with two single beds pushed together. This really isn't good enough considering the price of this particular hotel. The shower was good, the room was clean enough, and tea and coffee making facilities were provided, however the corridor directly outside smelled strongly of smoke.
I'm not sure if all the rooms are of this standard, however, and as we were leaving, the door of one of the four poster rooms was open and it looked much nicer than ours.
Breakfast was nice but not as wonderful as the dinners here, they are incredible, and they also have a selection of cocktails which are great.

We checked into this ‘hotel’ and I was basaiclly thrown the room key no words were exchanged, went to the box room they gave us even tho we paid for a premium room, they had the radiator on in the middle of summer on a very hot day and to make it worse the shower only ran scalding hot water I asked for a fan and was sighed at by the mute running the front desk. I then went down for some ice and was told that the kitchen was only open for dinner until 7:30 cus the chef wanted to get home 😂 what an utter joke this place is faulty towers wudnt be in it. We were then put in what felt like a waiting room for our forced 7:30 meal even tho we’d had a late lunch and we’re not hungry at that time this was the straw that broke the camels back so we got up and left, We were told we wudnt be charged only to have 140 pounds taken from my bank when we complained he return 60 pounds. So we may aswell have drove there and handed in 80 pounds then left! Terrible service terrible rooms terrible all round. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

Booked 4 poster de luxe room for my hubbys 70th birthday, so deluxe 4 poster was held together with more nuts and bolts than Frankensteins neck, and even the bolts were coming apart.
Dinner stops serving at 7.30 as they can't get chef to work late, and only other eating house was local chippy.
We couldnt get internet connection despite a member of staff trying, so with a wonky bed and no internet we decided to check out and go home.
Requested a refund and was told a member of the management would ring me the next morning, barely had time to lift my phone before they rang off.
I returned call straight awaynand first thing receptionists said was you had coffees can I take from your credit card, I refused saying would sort it out when the manager contacted me.
Rang several times over next few days, plus emails to hotel and its owners. No response!
I then resorted to a posting on FB asking them to contact me.
The response when it actually came was full of half truths and denial of my claims. I have photos of bed to prove my claims.

The lack of good manners and empathy makes me ashamed of my home country, famous for their hospitality alas not at this establishment.
Covid is no excuse for bad manners!
Covid is no excuse for bad management!
Covid is no excuse for bad business practice!

I would rather have dontated the money to a charity.

We stayed overnight in the family room which consisted of 2 single beds pushed together to make a double and a large bunk that was custom built above, it would easily accommodate 2 children but there is very little head room. Our wee boy enjoyed it though! The window view was of the bins outside but I suppose all rooms can’t have a sea view. The furniture was very dated, the en-suite on the small side but everything was clean and quite comfortable.
We were meeting family for dinner that evening so were looking forward to the meal in the hotel. Unfortunately it didn’t excite. At the best very average. The scampi and cod were quite good but chicken dishes bland and over cooked. The prawn salad provided one half slice of wheaten and overall disappointing. We didn’t want desserts after this experience.
The breakfast was the most disappointing of all. The waitress was friendly and very helpful but the food was basic and would not have satisfied even the smallest of appetites. I asked for sausages, mushrooms, eggs and veg roll. I actually gasped when the plate arrived! I thought it was a joke! One egg, one 5cmSausage, one 5p sized mushroom and a shrivelled over cooked 10p sized veg roll. I never realised veg. roll came so small. I actually took a picture of my plate because it looked so pathetic.
I can honestly say this was the worst breakfast I have experienced in a hotel.

Totally understand we are in different times, but surely establishments should be really stepping up? Competition is stiff, especially in a remote location. Slow service, people who arrived later served first. Covid mitigations poor, especially by staff. Food poor and not value for money. The building looks run down. Bill was extortionate considering all we had was a shared starter, two mains, two soft drinks and two wine £50! Oh dear. Not in a rush to recommend or to be back, if at all.

I have stayed here for over 40 nights on business but never again. £100 a night average for B&B midweek with meals on top. However when the Brazilian / South American bar manager is on it’s eat up & get out even though your a resident. 10 mins past 9pm on night as the ferry was late and even though food was preordered I was refused as 9pm kitchen closed. Hope they have enough customers to stay open over the winter as my £100 for room & at least £30 per nite for food & drink I’m sure are welcome elsewhere.

Booked the restaurant for a “fine dining” experience for a special Celebration with my daughter, but instead we were seated at an old wooden bat table in a back room. We had chosen to travel quite a distance from Belfast after seeing the menu and photos on FB but our experience couldnt be further from the fine dining photos. The menu we were offered was no more than bar snacks with very little choice and especially no “local fish” dishes- also extremely expensive for a bar snack!! When asked what the specials were, the server replied “ there are none- we only have one chef working”
Had I been told of this when I phoned to make the booking I certainly wouldnt have travelled so far for the disappointing experience. Will never be back and our special celebration was ruined!!

Such a lovely picture postcard looking place, we had been before and said we would not be back but everyone deserves a second chance the room we were allocated was at the back of hotel,no signal on TV was a great start so we were moved next door ok we had a picture on TV did not last long digital screen started breaking up. The furniture was dated 1920s, No hot water in shower and you could fall asleep watching cobwebs on ceiling.
Ok the food was quite nice. Bye bye portaferry hotel
