Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The cottage is cosy, comfortable and clean. It’s really well equipped. A nice feeling as soon as you park up; ‘home from home’. We felt this immediately. So hunker down. The views are fantastic, particularly from first floor. We didn’t get to use the garden area but can imagine in the summer it would be a fantastic spot for evening recreation, plus the view. Lucy was very easy to contact and very friendly. A perfect host. Sadly we didn’t get to meet her due to exploring the area. Such a beautiful area too. Stunning countryside that has so much to offer. The Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels, a stones throw; a must. Even the Northumbrian coast a days easy trip, for Craster kippers and the Alnwick Barter’s bookshop. We would return. In no doubt.

We have been to Owl Cottage at least 5 times now and it is always a pleasure to enter the front door and find a homely kitchen with home made cakes waiting for us. Everywhere is always spotless and although dogs are allowed you would not realise it. Our dogs really love the wood burner which is fantastically easy to light and makes such a cosy lounge (can get too warm sometimes!) The big bed is lovely and comfy and the nights are very peaceful and quiet. The back yard is properly dog proof even for our small Cairns. Always happy to return to this beautiful part of the country, and look forward to returning next year

We stayed at the Rose again; lost count of how many times we’ve been there! As always a wonderful and peaceful stay with great service from the hosts. Bad weather not a problem with the new wood-burner! We will soon be back😋

We had a wonderful week at Owl Cottage, with three generations celebrating a family anniversary. The cottage is very spacious, and the games room was really appreciated. The kitchen was well equpped and we had some great family meals. Lucy made sure we were comfortable. The location is very peaceful. with beautiful views over the Border hills.

This was our second stay in Wild Rose Cottage, and it did not disappoint. Very comfortable (especially the beds) and well equipped. Relaxing location, with just the sound of bird song or the odd 'bahhing' of distant sheep whilst you take in the views. Tea, coffee, milk and cake were awaiting our arrival, which is a lovely touch. We really didn't want to leave.

Super stay in Owl cottage at The Bairnkine. On arrival we found a lovely started pack of food including home made bread and flapjacks which went down a treat after a long journey. The kitchen was well equipped and had all you'd need. The large games room just off the kitchen also houses the utility equipment. We were a group of 5 adults and one baby and the cottage was plenty big enough. There are two bathrooms, one upstairs and one down which worked well for a group of 6. All the bedrooms are good sizes and any of them would have accommodated a cot. The beds were comfy and linen pristine. The area is beautiful and great for walking, cycling and sitting back and enjoying. We were a group covering 4 generations but we found things to do to suit all age groups. The owners Lucy and Matt have made sure that their guests have all they could need for a home from home break.

Second time in this "home from home". Perfect location in the Scottish Borders, 3 miles out of Jedburgh, just off the A68. Lovely sized property with two bathrooms, plenty big enough for the six of us. Used it as a base to visit family in Galashiels and for trips to Edinburgh, and down to the beaches in Northumberland. Lovely walks through the farm, along good paths that are sign-posted along the routes. The longest walk took us about 90 minutes, and was quite surprising to see the views towards Jedburgh and Hawick. Really good week, everything we needed was provided and the owners not far away if any issues (there weren't any).

We have just returned from a week in Owl Cottage near Jedburgh. We chose a Farmstay as our 15 year old son is interested in farming. Matt, our host let him spend a full morning with him telling him all about the animals and organic status of the farm and let him help with the cows- it made his stay very special. The cottage is in a super location for days out to the Borders towns/Edinburgh/Northumberland and the coast. Although there were only 3 of us the cottage had beds for 6 and plenty of space including a games rooms. Recommended for families.

We have just got back from our second stay at the owl cottage. It a very clean, comfortable, cosy and welcoming cottage. Lucy makes sure that you have everything you need for your stay and is on hand to offer help and advice to make the most of your stay. She also makes amazing shortbread biscuits! The owl cottage itself is very well equipped and cleaned to a very high standard. The beds and bedding are comfortable and the shower is powerful! The views are wonderful, especially at sunrise. The small private garden at the back is secure to allow children or dogs have a run around and has a bench and bbq, not something we used in December but great in the summer I imagine. The games room was a good size and again a great place for the kids to play a game of football or safety darts, and watch the grown ups play snooker. It’s in a great location just 5 mins from Jedburgh and lots of quant shops, coffee shops a co-op and an award winning butcher. We have been two years in a row at Christmas time, which has been truly magical.
