We are a small friendly scuba diving resort on Bangka Island, North Sulawesi. With a resident pod of spinner dolphins in the bay, seahorses on our house reef and a friendly dugong grazing on the abundant sea grass, the aquatic environment is healthy and blissfully free of crowds. The diving is fantastic all year round and we have about 30 dive sites within 30 minutes from the resort. Whether you’re a snorkeler, a novice diver or an expert, you will love the diversity the coral triangle has to offer. We have the highest marine diversity in the world! We have 5 bungalows and 2 backpacker rooms and we welcome divers and non-divers of all ages.

Dive guide Otnie is great! Managers Kate and James do everything to make you're stay as you like. I loved all thé jungle annimals, gekko's, big lizzards,... Dreadful stay uncomfortable accommodation, pillows on bed cheap, run on a shoestring budget, electric switched off 10pm, advised to leave windows open to cool room off, however no mosquito nets at windows, being in the jungle one would think this would be necessary. Management unprofessional, especially the female manager who was clearly not happy there or customer focused. We were asked to change morning dive to accommodate the mangers collecting there visa from the mainland and hang around 3hrs on boat till they were ready to return to the Island, we refused their attitude deteriorated and were clearly not happy. No furniture to relax on beach. When I asked for a lounger I was told there were non as they had been eaten by termites. We travelled around other remote Islands in Indonesia the accommodation was of a much higher standard and run professionally at a similar price.

Hello Alison, Thank you for your review. Very glad to hear that you at least liked the diving, which is truly amazing. Unfortunately, you had some issues while staying at Nomad Divers Bangka. It is not for all to sleep comfortably at night in the jungle but most guests specifically come to us for this reason. We are remote and surrounded by beautiful nature. Exactly this is the special and wonderful experience most guests are looking for. And yes we suggest to leave the windows open for a more comfortable stay at night and for that reason all the beds have their own mosquito net. The reason the attitude changed is not about waiting for someone at all. we hope you enjoyed all the "free" drinks. There is a lounge bed on the beach to stay in and have a wonderful relaxing time and it was in place during your visit. Our managers are two of the most warm, honest and professional people we know and we trust their judgement completely. Clearly honesty and nature of the beaten track is not for your group. We hope you find a place which is better suited to your needs in your next travels. Thanks again for your review.

A cosy resort which offers simple yet excellent service in a friendly family atmosphere. Nomad Divers is small (only five bungalows) and rustic (eg electricity only 12 daytime hours, so no AC or fans at night; no hot water). But what it lacks in luxury it more than makes up for in the excellent, friendly and efficient service it offers. James and Kate are brilliant hosts. They and their staff - both diving and resort - provide a wonderful family atmosphere that really makes you feel at home. A hidden gem. Meals are taken together like a family. The dishes are simple yet well prepared, with some excellent authentic Indonesian cooking. The rooms are simple yet spacious, as are the semi-open Balinese-style en suite bathrooms. They have an effective mosquito-net and repellent system - I wasn't bitten once, despite sleeping with windows wide open. Their dive boat is similar. It isn't fancy, but it is large, robust and stable, with everything you need to dive safely and enjoyably. Our dive guide and the crew all look after you, and your equipment (including cameras), well. And dive groups are small: maybe two, three or at most four of us on each trip. The diving itself round Bangka lived up to expectations, with a mixture of colourful corals and attendant fish and, even more so, good macro opportunities. See some of my pictures! Conclusion? Not a place for luxury-seekers, but highly recommended if you want friendly personal service in a cosy family environment, with some good diving thrown in.

If you like to see, and stay, within nature beyond what you can find anywhere else, then this is a paradise. Add together awe inspiring coral gardens , marine life, mangrove dwellers, and jungle creatures, including tiny gremlin like marsupials, called Tarsiers, beautiful birds, butterflies, stick insects, preying mantis, etc. etc. Marijn, who owns it, is also a font of knowledge on it all, plus a great bloke to boot. His enthusiasm for the crazy way the diversity of life around works is so infectious. He, and his staff, are also incredible dive guides, spotting the most cryptic of critters - think bits of floating leaf with eyes, or even tongues with eyes (tiny fish that chews off the tongue of a little clown fish, to take its place). The whole place is really laid back and communal. The staff from the village, and the locals you meet, are incredibly friendly, fun folk, who laugh and sing all the time. It was a pleasure and a privilege to meet them and spend time on their island. If you want a Western experience, please don't go there. There are several other resorts like that. We are sat in one now, and kicking ourselves for hedging bets - but first time in Indonesia, and being British, wasn't sure we wouldn't melt without aircon. However, the traditional style houses in Nomad Divers stay remarkable cool in the night. If we are lucky enough to return, we will spend the whole time at Nomads.

We loved our stay at Nomad Divers Bangka. One week was too short! We stayed in a Jungle Bungalow which was basic but had a great double bed and lovely semi-outdoors bathroom. The placement of the bungalows makes it very private. You can relax on the large porch or chill out at the common salon which is inviting and spacious with nice sofa’s. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well as the managers Kate and Jason who will do anything to accommodate you. If for some reason you’re not into the jungle vibe, a stay in the “Beach Bungalow” is a perfect idea. The food at Nomad Divers is just amazing !!! The most delicious food we had out of the 3 resorts we did during our 3 week holiday. Last but not least, the diving… We loved the variety in dive sites and our dive guide Otni was the best! He soon knew what kind of divers we were and he adapted to our wishes. He always found us “the small stuff” and the special creatures we would like to see (of course they had to be there…). Together with the manager and dive guide, you can decide on which dive site you’d like to dive (again). Yes, even on the same dive site, you’ll discover different creatures the next dive. Apart from diving, you can go snorkelling the mangroves and the house reef. You can take jungle walks and visit the nearby town, or you can rent a kayak and feel free in nature surrounded by the sea and lush green islands. From the water, the starry sky in the evening is amazing. Just remember to bring plenty of mosquito repellent !!! Ilse & Ben

We stayed and dived here for a few days in March 2020 and it was amazing! The owners Hilde and Marijn have done a great job into making Nomad Divers into a little paradise! It was very easy communicating with Hilde as we booked our trip last minute. We got picked up from the beach in Likupang village and taken around to the east side of Bangka. When we arrived we felt very welcomed, were told some information about the resort and then shown up to our room. Our bungalow was traditionally built from wood and was set in the jungle up a path that is well lit at night time. The room had a balcony with a beautiful view of the jungle. There was no power at night so they made sure in the room we had a little lamp that you can manually charge if needed and we had a mosquito net over the bed which kept the bugs out. We had WiFi at the room if we wanted it but only when the power was on. We didn't spend too much time in the room because the communal lounge and dining room space was so nice to relax in. All the meals were eaten together like a big family and the cooks make incredible food!! Sometimes you get lucky to see the Tasiers in the trees next to the restaurant!! They are so cute! The diving we did with Nomad Divers was amazing! The reefs were so colourful with soft corals everywhere and the fish life was amazing! The dive boat they have is pretty new and really nice to dive from. The crew were helpful and the dive guide we followed was great at spotting things! We saw pygmy seahorses, some giant frog fish, an eagle ray, lots of nudibranchs, a huge cuttlefish and even a blue ringed octopus. We did a dive from the beach on the house reef and there was also a lot to see! We wished we had more time to do some diving and snorkelling here but will be back for sure! Overall Nomad Divers was amazing! It is somewhere that we recommend visiting and we will visit again (hopefully soon!)!

My friend and I did 17 dives at Bangka at various sites. Our dive guide Otny had amazing eyes for finding the small and well camouflaged. My accommodation was excellent and our hosts Carolina and Dan went out of there way to make our stay incredible. My only complaint would be that I put on weight to much bacon and eggs for breakfast.I highly recommend a stay there.

When I go on dive trips I like to stay at small owner/operator places. I’m not a big chain/corporate resort kind of guy. After much online research I determined that Nomad Divers was my kind of place on Bangka. I was not disappointed. My girlfriend and I stayed at Nomad Divers in June of 2019 for four nights. We came for a mix of diving and relaxing. Nomad delivered both. We dived for 3 days, doing 2 dives in the morning each day before coming back for lunch and then we spent each afternoon relaxing, reading, etc. It was possible to do afternoon and night dives as well, but a combination of diving and relaxing served us best. Nomad has some great dive sites close by, so we never had a boat ride longer than 30 minutes. This was part of a two week trip to North Sulawesi for us where we dived in Bunaken, Lembeh, and Bangka. Bangka was definitely our favorite diving of the three destinations. There is a good mix of reef and muck at Bangka, so you have some dives with beautiful reefs and some with amazing creatures (the reef dives had some great macro life too). Over the course of our 6 dives in Bangka the highlights were Wunderpus Octopus, Blue Ring Octopus, Pontohi Pygmy Seahorse, Bargibanti Pygmy Seahose (Yellow!), Hairy Shrimp, Emperor Shrimp, Painted Frogfish, and Giant Frogfish. Back on land, our room was comfy and had big windows to let the breeze in. There was also some comfy couches and chairs in the restaurant area with conveniently placed reading lights. We also found a nice place to setup our hammock between a couple trees on the beach. The whole atmosphere of the place is extremely natural. Their little beach is literally where the jungle meets the sea and you really feel like you get to experience both. Each morning we woke up to the calls of Tarsiers from the treetops (yes, this place has Tarsiers which you can see in the trees at night!! People go to national parks just to see these and you can see them here off your balcony, crazy!) The staff were lovely as well. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time here and wished we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be headed back and will stay longer next time.

I just came back to the US from a 2 weeks of diving at Nomad Divers. This was my 3rd trip to the North Sulawesi area and was by far the best one to date. Here are are my comments; Owners and staff: This is a small family run place. Hilde & Marijn are salt of the earth people. I felt very comfortable with them from the get go. They have an amazing staff that were very attentive to my needs. Cena(sp?) and Scott are a great additions to their staff. Diving: They have a little bit of everything here. Great reefs with very good macro. They do 2 morning dives that start at 8 then lunch and an afternoon dive as well. They are flexible and will easily do a night dive if there is interest. Location: 2nd to none! No cars with only a small village on the island. Sleeping in a bungalow in the jungle is something that you must experience at least once in your life!. Food: Great family style served meals with very interesting conversations taking place. Hilde makes it a point at every meal to explain to you what we are eating ;) Not sure what else I can say about this place other than you need to experience it for yourself
