We are a small friendly scuba diving resort on Bangka Island, North Sulawesi. With a resident pod of spinner dolphins in the bay, seahorses on our house reef and a friendly dugong grazing on the abundant sea grass, the aquatic environment is healthy and blissfully free of crowds. The diving is fantastic all year round and we have about 30 dive sites within 30 minutes from the resort. Whether you’re a snorkeler, a novice diver or an expert, you will love the diversity the coral triangle has to offer. We have the highest marine diversity in the world! We have 5 bungalows and 2 backpacker rooms and we welcome divers and non-divers of all ages.

Nomad Bangka is just fantastic if you want to be at ease, enjoy beautiful diving and relax. Great value for money. Highly recommended if you do not aim for high luxury, but just enjoying life. The staff pampers you, the food is excellent - and so is the on-demand massage - highly recommended after some lazy diving. Imagine I did not only have a private divemaster and a private boat, most of the time I had even a private resort! And the beach bungalow is so nice...

We loved our stay at Nomad Divers Bangka. One week was too short! We stayed in a Jungle Bungalow which was basic but had a great double bed and lovely semi-outdoors bathroom. The placement of the bungalows makes it very private. You can relax on the large porch or chill out at the common salon which is inviting and spacious with nice sofa’s. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well as the managers Kate and Jason who will do anything to accommodate you. If for some reason you’re not into the jungle vibe, a stay in the “Beach Bungalow” is a perfect idea.
The food at Nomad Divers is just amazing !!! The most delicious food we had out of the 3 resorts we did during our 3 week holiday.
Last but not least, the diving… We loved the variety in dive sites and our dive guide Otni was the best! He soon knew what kind of divers we were and he adapted to our wishes. He always found us “the small stuff” and the special creatures we would like to see (of course they had to be there…). Together with the manager and dive guide, you can decide on which dive site you’d like to dive (again). Yes, even on the same dive site, you’ll discover different creatures the next dive.
Apart from diving, you can go snorkelling the mangroves and the house reef. You can take jungle walks and visit the nearby town, or you can rent a kayak and feel free in nature surrounded by the sea and lush green islands. From the water, the starry sky in the evening is amazing.
Just remember to bring plenty of mosquito repellent !!!

We stayed and dived here for a few days in March 2020 and it was amazing! The owners Hilde and Marijn have done a great job into making Nomad Divers into a little paradise!

It was very easy communicating with Hilde as we booked our trip last minute. We got picked up from the beach in Likupang village and taken around to the east side of Bangka. When we arrived we felt very welcomed, were told some information about the resort and then shown up to our room.

Our bungalow was traditionally built from wood and was set in the jungle up a path that is well lit at night time. The room had a balcony with a beautiful view of the jungle. There was no power at night so they made sure in the room we had a little lamp that you can manually charge if needed and we had a mosquito net over the bed which kept the bugs out. We had WiFi at the room if we wanted it but only when the power was on. We didn't spend too much time in the room because the communal lounge and dining room space was so nice to relax in.

All the meals were eaten together like a big family and the cooks make incredible food!! Sometimes you get lucky to see the Tasiers in the trees next to the restaurant!! They are so cute!

The diving we did with Nomad Divers was amazing! The reefs were so colourful with soft corals everywhere and the fish life was amazing! The dive boat they have is pretty new and really nice to dive from. The crew were helpful and the dive guide we followed was great at spotting things! We saw pygmy seahorses, some giant frog fish, an eagle ray, lots of nudibranchs, a huge cuttlefish and even a blue ringed octopus. We did a dive from the beach on the house reef and there was also a lot to see! We wished we had more time to do some diving and snorkelling here but will be back for sure!

Overall Nomad Divers was amazing! It is somewhere that we recommend visiting and we will visit again (hopefully soon!)!

Dreadful stay uncomfortable accommodation, pillows on bed cheap, run on a shoestring budget, electric switched off 10pm, advised to leave windows open to cool room off, however no mosquito nets at windows, being in the jungle one would think this would be necessary.
Management unprofessional, especially the female manager who was clearly not happy there or customer focused.
We were asked to change morning dive to accommodate the mangers collecting there visa from the mainland and hang around 3hrs on boat till they were ready to return to the Island, we refused their attitude deteriorated and were clearly not happy.
No furniture to relax on beach.
When I asked for a lounger I was told there were non as they had been eaten by termites.
We travelled around other remote Islands in Indonesia the accommodation was of a much higher standard and run professionally at a similar price.

Hello Alison, Thank you for your review. Very glad to hear that you at least liked the diving, which is truly amazing. Unfortunately, you had some issues while staying at Nomad Divers Bangka. It is not for all to sleep comfortably at night in the jungle but most guests specifically come to us for this reason. We are remote and surrounded by beautiful nature. Exactly this is the special and wonderful experience most guests are looking for. And yes we suggest to leave the windows open for a more comfortable stay at night and for that reason all the beds have their own mosquito net. The reason the attitude changed is not about waiting for someone at all. we hope you enjoyed all the "free" drinks. There is a lounge bed on the beach to stay in and have a wonderful relaxing time and it was in place during your visit. Our managers are two of the most warm, honest and professional people we know and we trust their judgement completely. Clearly honesty and nature of the beaten track is not for your group. We hope you find a place which is better suited to your needs in your next travels. Thanks again for your review.

Nomad divers Bangka is a great place to go diving. If you want to relax or lie on the beach, you're better off looking for somewhere else as the resort is in a mangrove forest. Another beach next door which is also part of the resort is no better. This one is made of sand but the sea is absolutely not suitable for swimming. Plastic waste is constantly washing up. Otherwise Nomad divers is good. Food is very tasty. Rooms are clean. Staff are friendly. Equipment is good (diving). But the price for accommodation including three meals doesn't justify the whole thing. This is probably because the owner is no longer here and two nice people from the UK and USA now run the resort. And because everyone wants to make money, the price is so high. The place is not recommended for families with children.

If you like to see, and stay, within nature beyond what you can find anywhere else, then this is a paradise. Add together awe inspiring coral gardens , marine life, mangrove dwellers, and jungle creatures, including tiny gremlin like marsupials, called Tarsiers, beautiful birds, butterflies, stick insects, preying mantis, etc. etc. Marijn, who owns it, is also a font of knowledge on it all, plus a great bloke to boot. His enthusiasm for the crazy way the diversity of life around works is so infectious. He, and his staff, are also incredible dive guides, spotting the most cryptic of critters - think bits of floating leaf with eyes, or even tongues with eyes (tiny fish that chews off the tongue of a little clown fish, to take its place). The whole place is really laid back and communal. The staff from the village, and the locals you meet, are incredibly friendly, fun folk, who laugh and sing all the time. It was a pleasure and a privilege to meet them and spend time on their island. If you want a Western experience, please don't go there. There are several other resorts like that. We are sat in one now, and kicking ourselves for hedging bets - but first time in Indonesia, and being British, wasn't sure we wouldn't melt without aircon. However, the traditional style houses in Nomad Divers stay remarkable cool in the night. If we are lucky enough to return, we will spend the whole time at Nomads.

I have to say the the diving was OK the the dive sites were interesting as you would expect in this region and the guide efficient and fun to be with, but the accommodation and food were a let down for the price of the stay, the accommodation was OK but overpriced for the standard provided. the two stars are due to the fact that one morning at breakfast I asked if they had any cereal, and was told that yes they did but not for the guests as it was to expensive. although having paid over US$900 for a 5 day stay. And to make matters worse 10 mins later the owner sat at the breakfast table and consumed a bowl of Granola in front of me. enough said

My husband and I are always seeking a resort in North Sulawesi with great dive sites nearby and were thankful to find that with Nomad Dive Resort in Bangka.

We were amicably greeted at the Manado airport and whisked away in an air conditioned van to the tip of North Sulawesi. We took a 60-minute boat ride to the resort. This is a new venture of for our hosts Sophie and Simon from the UK and we had a wonderful stay.

Our beach cottage was only steps off their stunning beach and the dive boat. We were greeted by dolphins on our way to our daily dives. Another diver had spotted a dugong during our trip. We saw giant broadclub cuttlefish, many nudis, eels, frogfish, scorpionfish and much more.

The food was excellent (with nice local fruit) and the accommodations were more than comfortable. All of our dives near the resort were fabulous and unique for the area. We have done over 1000 dives worldwide with 200+ in North Sulawesi (Lembeh Straits and Bunaken) and this area added an interesting third dimension of critters and dive topography that left us wanting more. Their dive boat had a 4 stroke motor (no smoke) which was awesome. The dive boat was equipped with oxygen and their rental dive gear was all new, a pleasant surprise.

We could hear tarsiers (small primate with big eyes) vocalizing in the trees in the pre dawn hours. We were amazed by the hospitality of the resort hosts and the Bankga dive sites. The value for our stay was excellent and will be back again soon.
