This property is not a "typical" B&B, although it may be found in those listings. Travelers need to be clear about the fact that this is actually a studio apartment located in a historic, residential neighborhood. You get the entire ground floor of the house with a private entrance, an adequate kitchen (fridge, cooktop and microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils... More

This garden-level space is huge, filled with treasures to explore and all the comforts of home to enjoy. We spent a week exploring Berkeley, and San Francisco and it was a pleasure to return here to unwind and recharge. The kitchen is well-stocked for eating-in, and owner Ana has every resource available for whatever planning you want to do outside.... More

Please do not get distracted by the staged photos of this place. It is extremely cluttered, with very little "free space". We were given 2 dresser drawers, 1 side of a closet, and no shelves for toiletries. Every other square inch was covered or filled with the owner's "stuff". Magazines of various ages (none recent) were on top of and... More

I've never tried to mislead anyone about my place. This is the home of an artist. The space is large and there is a lot in it. Beautiful art and pottery, music and interesting books. When it isn’t occupied, it functions as my base for a health practice. The mistake I made with these folks was not talking to them... More

I spent three nights at Spruce Canyon in March and I’m going again for two nights at the end of April. Spruce Canyon is a wonderfully spacious, tranquil, and charming place to stay. It’s a studio apartment, part of the owner’s main house. The location in north Berkeley is within easy access of Gourmet Ghetto and many lovely neighborhood spots.... More

Stayed here for one week in July while visiting U.C Berkeley. It was great to have somewhere close to the university, and where I could do some cooking for myself. Ana is a very hospitable host and was very helpful with area information. There is no cooked breakfast for guests, but Ana had stocked the drawer with breakfast cereal items,... More

Spruce Canyon offers a unique Berkeley experience. I spent most of my daytime hours in the bustle of the city, and it was such a relief to return to this quiet, cozy and eclectic retreat. I especially enjoyed the large kitchen space and deep soaking tub. There are windows throughout that face a charming garden with lots of trees. The... More

The basic idea of this unique and tranquil retreat is announced in the sign in large letters above the door that spells 'Home'. Having recently spent a month at Spruce Canyon I can attest to the many large and small touches that have gone into making it a truly comfortable, if not luxurious, 'home away from home.' The lack of... More

This place is a delightful treasure. The first thing that catches your attention is how awesome it looks. It is decorated with lots of books and decorations all over. The rugs are fantastic and the furniture equally as so. It has very comfortable beds that you melt into. Full kitchen and a nice bathroom. Very fun to explore this spot... More

I spent a week at Spruce Canyon this past June and loved it. The décor is unique and multi-cultural, eccentric but tidy. I could walk out the back door from the deck and pick fresh plums from a plum tree for breakfast. The environment was quaint and peaceful. The property owner was gracious and helpful in terms of suggesting nearby... More

After a day, I finally came to the conclusion staying there is like staying in a closed junk shop. A hoarders paradise. So much stuff a flashlight is provided to make it to the bathroom to a toilet that doesn't flush. Back door dead bolt doesn't work. I thought the back garden would be empty but unfortunately it was as... More

I am sorry your experience was not what you had hoped for but I feel that I described the apartment honestly on the telephone prior to your stay and judging from the other reviews, most of our guests are quite happy here. Some have become regular visitors and some have even asked to buy items that they loved in the... More
