The hotel is right off highway 1 and is a short walk to the beach. My room looked out at the woods with a creek running through it. There was a hiking path by the creek but due to heavy rain it was washed out or would have been a beautiful walk. The room had a fireplace and spa tub and both worked great. The tub was a little tricky. You need to fill it, flip the spa tub switch then use the little buttons in the tub to turn on and regulate the bubbles. The room looked like it had been recently painted, was very clean and there was a small fridge to keep a few bottle of water in. My only problem was the mattress. It was kind of hard for me but I slept okay. New mattresses would be an improvement but other than that it was quiet, comfortable and convenient. I’d definitely stay there again.

This was our second visit... the staff has always been consistently helpful towards the enjoyment of our stays. The location is on the ocean side of the main highway, while Cambria is just across the highway, which means we had convenient access to a variety of local restaurants without having to stay 'in town'. It's possible to hear distant waves at night from an open window, but on our latest stay there was some nearby construction work during the day. It's also just down the road from State Route 46, which takes one through wine country and ultimately to Paso Robles - perfect for wine tasting trips! The rooms are comfortable and very clean. When we had too much of very late night party sounds from a neighbor, a call to the front desk led quickly to a quiet night after all. The rooms are a bit pricey, but we prefer to err on the side of quality versus saving every last possible dollar.

We’ve stayed at nearly every hotel in Cambria and finally tried El Colibri. The hotel is very comfortable and our room was clean, cozy and well appointed.
Every staff member we dealt with was polite and professional. Because we had some apprehension about traveling during the pandemic- we were pleasantly surprised by the following:
1) Our room was vacant for 24 hours before we checked in.
2) Our room had a sliding patio door to improve air ventilation.
3) No daily housekeeping service. You can request clean towels but no one will be in your room for anything during your stay.
4) The staff and other guests were mask compliant.
I felt safe staying here.
One thing worth mentioning to those bringing their dog along, like we did- This property is pet friendly. However, I would not stay here again with a dog. No rooms have direct access to the outdoors. You have to walk through interior hallways and through the lobby for pooch potty breaks. Not exactly ideal if you have an early riser or a pet that needs to go outside later at night. I will stay here again but I won’t be bringing my dog with me.
All in all, a wonderful place to stay to enjoy Cambria.

The hotel had a winter special online and we were able to reserve 2 Superior King Guest Rooms with Jacuzzi (a room for each couple). We were excited because we were quite happy to be staying at really the only hotel there along the beach. Also, their website advertises: “Unwind in luxury, just steps from Moonstone Beach” and who wouldn’t want that on a getaway?! We were sold!

The hotel looked like the photos on the website and was right by Moonstone Beach, so no concerns there. The front desk was more like a small excursion table, so that was a bit unexpected, however the customer service at check-in was very good. There is an adjacent lounge area with a wall of automated wine & beer dispenser that you charge to a drink card that you get at the front desk. Due to the pandemic, only beer was available. We did take advantage of this on our second day to try some local brews.

We had requested to have rooms next to each other and they provided just that, so kudos to the hotel. The gas fireplace was a nice feature and added to the relaxing atmosphere every night. We truly enjoyed the in-room jacuzzi tubs and had bubble bath soaks each night. Due to COVID, there were no robes or extra rolls of toilet paper in the bathrooms, but there was a sign advising that you can call guest services to request them. We did exactly that and both were delivered quite quickly. The lights in the room and bathroom were a bit dim, but I guess that adds the the spa vibes as this is advertised as a Hotel & Spa. The bed was very comfortable, however I discovered dirty stains on one side of the comforter and upon inspecting it, I found more stains. As this was already the second day and we only had one night left, I just used the flat sheet to cover that section up. The windows in the room had a second heavy curtain to block out the light when you sleep, however it didn’t do a very good job at keeping the light out in the morning. The only other thing to mention is that there needs to be better signage on where the ice machine is, as it was near impossible to find without asking the front desk.

I must mention, the safety permit for the elevator expired January 15, 2020! This is a bit concerning and it’s displayed in the elevator for all to see that it hasn’t been inspected since January 2019!! Aside from all these things, the service was good and the location was perfect. There was always underground parking available for us each night we returned. Although this hotel touts “unwind in luxury” I did not see where the luxury was/could be. Perhaps I need to go back when we’re not in a pandemic and see if there is any difference when the spa is open. All in all, it was still a pretty enjoyable experience at El Colibri Hotel & Spa.

Thank you so much Michael for taking the time to leave us a review regarding your most recent stay with us. I am glad to know you overall enjoyed your stay as many of our guest come to have. I am so sorry to hear we failed in some areas of cleanliness. I know this is not the standard and will be addressed. I wish you would have gave me the opportunity to speak with you during your stay regarding some of the items you had questions on. We would have been more then happy to replace your comforter for you. You are correct about our elevator permit being expired. Inspections were suspended during 2020 due to covid-19 and still remain suspended until further notice. I am please to inform that we have monthly inspections/services to ensure everything is functioning properly and is required for us to keep us up to date as our permit is expired. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have further questions.

This property is dated, but the room was big and the bathtub was the best part of the experience. We loved how the bath supplies were sealed in a bag. We slept with our door open, so you could hear the waves crashing all night! It was great and therapeutic. The front desk person was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and things to do in the area. Since it was a holiday weekend, the room was very expensive. But since we didn’t have to pay for parking or resort fees, it wasn’t too bad.

Stayed at this hotel for the first time in Cambria. Have been to a number of other hotels in the area. Pretty disappointed. Cost of the room was a bit cheaper than other hotels in the area but not by much. Nice front desk staff but underwhelmed by the services provided. The wine and beer “tap wall” was a big disappointment. One wine offering, pinot noir and one beer offering, flat Firestone 805. Advertised on their website a total of 2 beer and 2 wine selections. The faucet for the tub in room 206 was broken, stuck in the shower position. Could not fill tub unless one filled it by using the shower setting. Coffee in morning, horrible. Not sure how it was made, tasted like mud…so dark like syrup. Front desk person suggested adding hot water to dilute the poorly made coffee. Also, no cream available, had to ask for it. Room was spacious and reasonably nice for nearly $400 a night charged. To the management, please get up to speed to provide appropriate amenities for guests spending that much money for a room…make sure your tap wall is offering at least a red and a white wine and double check the quality of the beer. Offer a nice coffee bar which is in line with the cost of the rooms and similar to other hotels in the area. Someone should know how to make a decent pot of coffee otherwise, offer Keurig or similar individual coffee maker in the lobby. I get the impression the hotel is not interested in taking extra steps to ensure the guests are enjoying their experience at the hotel. Feels like management is cutting corners because they feel they can get away with it. Bad strategy. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize that the tap wall was experiencing a technical issue during your stay. It has since been fixed and offers a variety of selections. We also have the gift shop with many bottled options to choose from. The single cup coffee makers and the lobby provide Starbucks brand coffee for our guests to enjoy in their room or lobby 24 hours a day. We also offer creamer, flavored creamers and a variety of tea options at our coffee station. We will double check with the team to ensure that is happening daily.

We stayed here for two nights in order to visit Hearst castle. This hotel is conveniently located at the very edge of Moonstone beach. There is a walking path down to the beach, and there are bikes available at the hotel. Our room was on the first floor at the very end, one window facing the parking lot and the other window facing the woods. The room was quite spacious and had a nice fireplace. The jacuzzi tub is a little awkward to use. The jets were so strong I had to turn them off. The up and down controls did not change anything! We did use the jacuzzi on the second floor, and they provide you with nice towels and terry lined bathrobes, which was a nice touch! We did not use the steam room. Lisa at the front desk was super friendly. Parking is below the building, with a few spots outside on the side. There was also a Tesla charging station.

The hotel is near the West end of Cambria and a short drive from the east end. So many cute shops and restaurants to explore! It's also a very short drive to Hearst castle and the elephant seal viewing area.

My only complaint would be the lack of breakfast. The 2 days we were there, they had pre-packaged honey buns. One day they had yogurt, the next day they were out. Coffee and tea were provided. The common area has a warm, inviting fireplace. We did not take advantage of the beer and wine on tap.

Front desk people who are supposed to be helping customers are also cleaning the rooms.

Have been going there for ten years and had amazing experiences with old staff, especially Sherrie. Not anymore! Not joking when I say it feels like a Motel 6. Manager is never there, poor overworked workers seem lost and most importantly, the flavor that brought me there originally is gone.

For 400.00 a night I do not accept that the person who is checking me in, just got done cleaning a bathroom. Not in today's world.

Used to be best hotel in Cambria, since new owners took over, it's not even close. Not worth the price.

Will not be going back unless they make changes and bring back the old vibe.

What I enjoyed about this property is that it was very clean, and beautifully situated near the coast with a boardwalk to take you along without the disruption of sand.
I felt our room was very overpriced given we looked out onto a parking lot and had a child in the room above us running around.
Also the mini split A/C was so loud!
We alerted the front desk staff twice about the child running around above us, once in the late evening and once in the early morning. No adjustments were made in compensation or service recovery towards our inconvenience, I think this should be offered and not something I should have to ask for. I shared the video as it ridiculous the noise level and the hours it occurred.
Lastly the soaps were empty in the shower, my opinion is this hotel is a two star experience.

We had a good first night, but at 1:30am on the second night, a man tried to break in to our room through the screen window. We were in Room 111, facing the rear of the building, which other reviews had suggested as better, but at ground level, the man had the screen open 12 inches before we scared him off. The manager has been very understanding. We only asked that they put in motion-sensor lights and security cameras for the back side of the building, but she credited us one of the two nights, and said she will inform corporate management of the problem. Seems like an obvious fix, though....

If guests (or management) learn these have been installed, please comment here, as well as in your own review. I'd be wary of ground level back side rooms until then.
