Once again, the Inn did not disappoint. We need a few days to rejuvinate and relax, and that's what we got. The staff was wonderful, the rooms were soooo comfortable, the succulent gardens were spectacular and the view was, as always, the best of Mother Nature. The sound of the waves, the smell of the ocean...perfect. The room was clean and well stocked and the staff personable, competent and available. Our favorite spot on the Coast:)

Our corner room was large, quiet, luxurious and romantic. We found the mini-frig to be warm upon check in, and it was replaced within 15 minutes. We loved the balcony overlooking the ocean and the ability to open the slider and hear the surf. Lots of windows and great light. The fireplace made it so cozy. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was great having a microwave as well as a refrigerator. Everything was spotlessly clean. A nice touch was being provided two real wine glasses in the room, rather than plastic. We used the sparkling clean and perfectly heated spa once which we enjoyed immensely.

And how fantastic to have a hot buffet breakfast, complete with champagne, every morning. The food was quite good with lots of variety.

We had booked and stayed at another hotel the first night we arrived and it was unacceptable. Fortunately, we walked in and June, the desk clerk, was just fabulous! She called the "sister" hotel and made arrangements for us to check out without penalty, and booked us at The Pelican at a very reasonable rate.

June called us shortly after we checked out to say we had left some items in the closet. She offered to mail them, but we made arrangements for friends to pick them up. She really went above the call of duty!

It is a sign of a wonderful stay when you don't want to leave. We are looking forward to returning every year!

We stayed here July 2020, so during the covid era. The hotel was absolutely spotless and many steps had been taken to keep the hotel safe. There was a seal on our room door, masks required in the lobby, separate new and used pens and all staff were wearing masks. To use the pool you have to make a reservation. The slots are 90mins and there’s a maximum of 3 reservations (of 2-4 people) at a time. They provide towels. It’s a heated pool which is nice but it is small and only 4.5ft deep at the deep end. The room did not have a coffee maker, ironing board, or any cups or notepads etc, but I believe you could request these from the front desk. We had a partial ocean view king and the room was huge with a small balcony looking out over the ocean (beyond the parking lot). The rooms are looking a little tired and really need updating, especially when compared to places such as the Sand Pebbles, Dolphin, and Fogcatcher Inns also along Moonstone Drive. Despite this, we had a lovely stay, felt totally safe and we would return in the future.

The Pelican Inn is right on moonstone beach drive, across from the road overlooking the ocean. Choose a room in the main building where the lobby is to avoid overlooking the parking lot. However you will be closer to the street so if traffic noise will bother you then take that into consideration. For me the superior view is worth being closer to the street. The 1st floor rooms overlooking the ocean are sunken in the ground and have a patio overlooking a well maintained garden, but at the cost of not really getting an unimpeded view of the water. The rooms on the second floor have a balcony that overlook the beach.

The king ocean view suite has a good amount of space; I believe the website listed it as a little over 400sq feet and that seemed about right. The bed was phenomenal. The fire place was ok. It required a little fiddling with to get it working. The first click on a worn out light switch ignited the pilot lite, while a second on/off click would turn on the fire, although sometimes this required an additional 3 or 4 clicks to get it working. The fire itself was a little on the tame side and does not give off much heat. There is a conventional heater in the room. There is a glass door in front of the fire place that is permanently shut, presumably for liability and safety reasons. Water was hot in the shower but the pressure was not very strong. Due to COVID-19 supplies for the bathroom were somewhat limited. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, but after inquiry I was able to get an additional body wash. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They do not come into the room during your stay so you have to leave your rubbish outside the room for collection.

Aside from the bed, the room was tired and worn out. Furniture was old in design but didn’t have any stains, but the cushions were slightly sunken. As for the carpet, the pictures speak for themselves. Solid flooring would be preferred here as it would not only look better but in light of the current situation would be more sanitary. Molding around the floor was chipping off and worn out.

Overall I enjoyed my stay but felt the room was overpriced considering the condition. The pictures on their website do not show the true condition of the room you will be getting. The staff was great and friendly but the this place is long overdue for a remodel.

We had an amazing stay at the Pelican Inn this past week. We stayed 5 days in an ocean view suite (#207). We really enjoyed our stay and met our goal to relax and enjoy the Central Coast for a few days.

The room had 2 queen beds, a bath with a regular tub/shower combination. The room came with a small fridge, microwave, and television. It also had a gas fireplace and small balcony with 2 chairs facing the ocean.

The room was a little dated and worn, but my expectations for a small boutique hotel is different from a large mega-chain. The beds had comfortable mattresses and sheets. The ocean view from the living room was amazing and absolutely worth the added cost.

We enjoyed walking along the boardwalk that ran the length of Moonstone Bay. We biked along Moonstone Drive. We ate 3 times at Moonstone restaurant because it’s a few steps down the road, they had outdoor dining, and the food was good.

Lastly, our stay was special because June, the manager, was super attentive and helpful. She allowed us to store our bikes inside the office and helped us with reserving pool times. If you missed it, pool time can be reserved in 90 min. increments to maintain sanitary conditions at the pool. The pool furniture gets sanitized after each use. Super fun to have the entire pool and deck to yourself. Thanks June!!

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in June 2021. I snore so we needed two separate sleeping areas in the room, with a door between them, and the 1 Bedroom Cypress Suite fit the bill.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, literally right across the street from Moonstone Beach (no hotels are on the beach side of the street), and we had a nice ocean view from our room. I'm attaching a picture of the view from our patio, plus a picture of the beach right at the hotel at sunset.

The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The beds were all soft (including the sofa bed which was decent), the hotel was quiet, the water pressure and temperature were good. The room was clean, if a tad dated. The hallway carpet could use a refresh, but that was no big deal. The hotel offers free parking and decent wifi. The hotel has no restaurant but there are several within walking distance.

There is NO AC. This is the case with most of the hotels on the beach in this area of the coast, since the weather is generally cool. The first night it was nice and cool. The second night it got a tad warm, so we just opened the window to the ocean air and it was great, cool and quiet. There seemed to be no traffic at night on the road that runs along the ocean.

The only minor issue we had was that there were two gas fireplaces in our room, one in the bedroom, one in the sitting area. The flame is very low and can't be adjusted at all. So while it looks neat, it's kinda useless and created a light source at night that bothered my light sensitive wife. She wore a sleep mask and we tried to block it with chairs, but it still bothered her. Not a huge deal though. Overall we had a great stay!

The Pelican Inn & Suites in Cambria.....where customer service is as extinct as the infamous DODO bird! Like most of us, we were eager to treat ourselves to a nice vacation after so many months of Covid restrictions. We decided to return to Cambria and booked our favorite top floor room three months in advance. We called four days prior to arrival and confirmed that the room we booked was ours but were disappointed that their signature free breakfast was still not being served and that the only substitute was a boxed option delivered at an extra charge. After a five hour drive we arrived to find that the second floor full ocean view balcony room that we reserved and paid for had been “double booked” and no other such rooms were available even though they had logged our confirmation four days prior. We were given a first floor partial ocean view room. When we asked to speak to the manager, the inexperienced clerk said he was on his way in and could not be reached. When we returned a few minutes later we were then told he was not coming but had offered a $50 discount for our entire stay. We had no choice but to accept being so far from home and their strict cancellation policy. The weather was hot but we could not leave the sliding door open at night due to being on a ground floor with street access. The room had no AC and the ceiling fan had been removed. The noise from the room above was disturbing and we had a very unpleasant stay. At checkout, we did not even receive the promised (though insufficient) $50 discount, nor have we been able to speak with a manager after several attempts via e-mail and phone messages. The Pelican Inn’s new attitude towards their guests seems to be that of “take it or leave it” and “bait n switch”. To fellow travelers, the old expression of “BUYER BEWARE” could never apply more. To the Pelican Inn staff, you should be ashamed for taking advantage of unsuspecting guests and choosing higher profits over customer satisfaction.

From the moment we arrived everything about this place was superb. The breakfast is a gourmet delight with fresh eggs, waffles made to order, delicious breakfast sausages, fresh fruit, bagels, mimosa and coffee. On premises pool and jacuzzi were clean and well appointed. The office offers available local wines and splits for purchase. The office also has free candy and beautiful souvenirs for reasonable prices. Most rooms have fireplaces, and all rooms can hear lush ocean waves all night. A fantastic deal for these amenities and a perch on Moonstone Drive. Absolutely delighted with my stay.

We stayed here one night on our road trip through California. The hotel is situated on the beach from road opposite the beach. We had a beach front room on the ground floor and although the view was nice we kept the the curtains drawn as you had people and cars using the road, a few metres from our window. The room was nicely equipped and did the job. The bed was comfortable and there was hot water. We had breakfast the morning we left. It was self service but fine. The only thing I would say is that when we were checking out, the receptionist was very enthusiastic about the hotel and then said 'thank you for staying. If you had booked for tonight, you would have paid $200 dollars less'! I understand we were staying at the tail end of the season and probably the room rates did drop significantly in the off season but I thought this was tactless!

We had 2 rooms reserved for 4 nights. One room required ADA accessibility which was honored after 1st night when we got in. The other room was an ocean view suite. Much of our sentiment is reflected in preceding reviews.

Pros: Overall clean place, Great location, friendly staff. Hotel clerk, Jeremy, was very accomodating and kind showing us other room options after we checked in since one person in our party was ADA. Parking was easy and the pool and Jacuzzi worked great. Quiet location in the middle of moonstone beach - walking distance to beach and restaurants on the strip. Comfortable bed.

Cons: Pull out sofa did not work and we had to use an aerobed we brought. The sofa was also VERY tired and cushions were worn down. Wifi did not work very well and we had to walk over to the lobby to make phone calls. Trash left in some of the drawers from previous guests. The sliding glass door and screen door did not lock properly. The fireplace did not work. Some lights were out in the room. Couldn't get the Jacuzzi tub in room to work. We reported the broken pull out sofa and sliding glass/screen door, but no one came out to fix during out stay.

Room locations are based on the room type that is secured. We will be happy to note the reservation, please contact us at the property so we can secure the preferred. Pelican does offer a one cup coffee maker in all guest rooms. Reservation are recommended but not required. Moonstone beach offer two restaurants that are first come first server. The town of Cambria has about 30 restaurants that offer reservations for lunch and dinner. Pool reservati0ns are made the day of. We look forward to having yo at Pelican.

They face the ocean but you cannot see the ocean from some of the rooms because of the obstruction of the cars. And also the building we stayed In the windows were not floor length. I hope this makes sense.
