Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This historic hotel is in a fantastic location to walk anywhere as it is in the heart of the main street for shopping and restaurants and the beach is a short walk as well. However the hotel doesn't have an elevator and our room was 3 storeys up. There was a bell person who took our luggage up, but if you have mobility issues, this would not be a good choice of hotel. Our room was very dated, the bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade and the room and bathroom had an odour which was likely from the underwhelming bathroom. The pictures are more complimentary than what you will experience if staying in our room. If you like historical places to stay and modern amenities aren't what you're looking for, then you might enjoy this place more than we did.

One of the first hotels in Carmel still a wonderful place to stay right in the heart of downtown Carmel. Has an old European decor. very quiet and staff is very helpful. We had the room with two twin beds because it was my mother and I. If you don’t like climbing stairs, it may not be the place for you, but it was no problem for us. Parking available but limited.

My wife and I stayed at this Inn for a night and loved everything about it. It reminded us of the old hotels in major European cities like Paris or Rome! Built in 1889 and kept mostly in original shape but improved condition. Very original and beautiful yet clean and comfortable. It's located right in the center of shopping and dining area and close to the beach. Highly recommend it.

Every single employee was friendly and helpful. Obviously the employee culture is attended to and working well. It made a huge difference to us to be greeted so nicely and for each meal to be delicious and made extra fun with the staff. The decor is always a pleasure.

My parents and I have always stayed at the Pine Inn whenever we are in Carmel. This stay was just my mom and I to spend her 84th birthday there. It was bittersweet since my dad had passed away in 2021. The last time we were all there was in 2018 for Christmas. This trip the staff went above and beyond service. After I fell, they got the bellhop to help me with the luggage. Then on our 3rd day the toilet and tub got clogged. We almost had to move to a different room but the staff and the plumber saved us from moving. That same day my tooth and crown came out. So I had to tell them we were changing our checkout to Monday instead of Tuesday. The staff in the inn and the restaurant were all very helpful. I plan on returning so I can pick up my Amethyst ring from Viau Estate Jewelry.

Outstanding from first to last. Cherie (not sure if spelling is correct) was on reception when we checked in, and was delightful and super efficient. She had a car parking pass all ready, and was kind enough to allow us early room access despite it being 11.30am. Room was great, bed super comfortable, and (thank the Lord) they had excellent pillows. Tremendous value too. Cypress Inn won't be seeing me again...will only come here going forward.

It was great to stay in the centre of Carmel with everything needed in the doorstep, including the beach. The parking was close by & the staff helpful & friendly. Our room was lovely with a great king bed, view to the sea & bathroom.

Great historic hotel with a staff that was extremely kind and helpful. Went the extra mile for me planning an engagement. Once view room was worth the extra cost. Very cool spot for a nice relaxing weekend in a great little town.

We had a beautiful room with an ocean view. The kind size bed was so comfy and the shower had the best shower pressure. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel contacted me the day before our arrival and asked if we needed anything during our stay. We were welcomed with a hand written note for my husband’s birthday celebration and a bottle of sparkling wine. Thank you again !

I wanted to stay at this hotel for years, I visit Carmel often. What a huge disappointment it was such a poorly made facility and you’re not really even allowed to use the lobby other than perhaps sit in it. The rooms are shabby and not well-maintained with paint chips on furniture, lamps and missing bulbs and lack of attention to detail everywhere. Once you leave the grandness of the lobby, ( which you really can’t use) you go to the floors where the rooms are on, and it pretty much is terribly dated and dismal. Unfortunately, we will not return.
