A good experience for any family that is interested in staying a little further away from downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey. The 9-hole putting green was a great activity for our family of four and the amenities like the pool and fitness center was perfect, even on a rainy cold day. The staff were very friendly even at Edgars, which we had to order food from since Covey Grill was closed for maintenance.
We recommend staying there if you want to be further away from the hustle and bustle of a downtown.

My wife and I have stayed here several times pre-Covid, but I wanted to add an update for the experiences during the pandemic. The lodge has implemented an excellent contactless environment, as well as taking the proper health and safety measures with guest interactions. We have spoken to the housekeepers about the cleaning measures taken between guests, and are very comfortable that they go above and beyond what is required. They have re-opened at reduced occupancy for indoor dining, and continue to provide outdoor dining. The golf experience also provides similar safety considerations. A very relaxing and satisfying experience, and we have stayed there a few times recently for a getaway from being homebound during these times, and will certainly return.

Beautiful site. The grounds are immaculately kept and loved that the rooms were very private with large windows and a private patio overlooking a large pond. The breakfast at the Covey Grill needs improvement. It was very expensive and very underwhelming. Scrambled eggs served in 4 oz mason jars, oatmeal was cold and gluey. In fairness to them, this may have been a temporary situation as the main dining room was undergoing a renovation but for $45/pp, I expected more.

Booked a premier room directly with the Hotel so we could get a room with a patio and “premier views of the lake or golf course.” If you only enjoy a view while standing then you will like it. I was told that there were no rooms available with views, that they all had 4’ hedges around them. Disappointing. Got in the shower and realized there was no shampoo/body wash/conditioner in the dispensers. They don’t use the dispensers during Covid 19 but forgot to leave the individual containers in our room. Disappointing. We were really excited to have breakfast outside in the morning, The only meal they offer during weekdays. Unfortunately the meal was not great, runny scrambled eggs almost burnt bacon and no brown on the hash browns. Disappointing. Be aware that this property is ALL pet friendly. We are not pet owners and did not appreciate the smell of dog in our room. Nowhere on their site or when we called to make the reservation is it mentioned that the entire property allows pets. Most properties have specific rooms where pets are allowed. When I called the second evening to ask if we were put in a pet friendly room and was told they were all pet friendly they did offer to move us but I didn’t see the point being that all the rooms have had pets in them and we were checking out the next morning. Disappointing. If you want to watch a movie on your TV, you should know there is no pay per view or even a channel to tune in to see what’s on. You get to flip through the channels, Very old school. Disappointing. When I was checking out I let them know that it was a disappointing stay. They let me know that a manager would call me and discuss all the issues that we had. I did receive a call back from an assistant manager who was sorry that we had a bad experience but made no offer to comp our breakfast or take off the added charges for the premier room which we didn’t receive. She offered to give me a room upgrade the next time I stayed with them even after I stated that I would not be staying with them again. For this price point you can do better.

If you are a young person staying and playing golf at Quail, you will be treated like dirt. Friends 40th birthday, played golf with our wives riding along. Clubhouse attendant made our wives very uncomfortable while both husbands weren’t near them. Took this up with the hotel and was told a manager would be contacting me to further discuss this. Never heard from anybody.

The whole weekend we were treated poorly as if we didn’t belong. This happened at the restaurant, hotel, several times on the golf course. If you’re going to spend this type of money there are resorts nearby that will treat you properly.

This was our first visit to the Quail Lodge and we are already talking about coming back next year. I had called before we went to make sure about our reservation and I was asked about which room we would prefer and what view we would enjoy. We were also asked if there was anything that would make us feel more welcome when we got to our room. When we checked in it was the wine hour and we enjoyed a delicious glass of wine and conversation with other guests. There was a fire in the fireplace that felt great. Our room was one of the cottage rooms and the room was spacious, quiet and private. We were very comfortable and the housekeeping staff left little touches that really added to our comfort. We cannot wait to go back!

We have followed the opening and closing of this hotel over the years. We decided to give it a try on this Carmel trip and it turned out to be the highlight of our week. I have not seen a resort and golf course more perfectly maintained. The landscape was in full bloom and was a pleasure to behold. The onsite restaurant has a lovely view and good food. Our rooms were on the golf course with lovely patios and views. The staff was friendly and attentive. The men played golf and found the course to be beautiful and in great condition. I particularly was impressed that the grounds crews found a way to keep everything in perfect condition without the constant sound of mowers and blowers interrupting the peaceful and beautiful serenity.

The hotel location is a bit distant from downtown Carmel, it boasts a serene ambiance and is impeccably clean. The rooms are also spotless, and we particularly appreciate the thoughtful layout and bathroom arrangements, as well as the inclusion of amenities like shampoo and lotion.Every member of the hotel staff we encountered exhibited exceptional friendliness and a strong willingness to accommodate our needs.

The fitness center is thoughtfully organized into distinct sections, offering separate areas for cardio exercises, weightlifting, and yoga. We had a truly enjoyable experience throughout our stay!

Stayed here with a few colleagues during a covid getaway. Felt very safe on the property and interfacing with staff. Rooms were spacious, functional and very wiped down. Occupancy was only 40% so never any crowds, plenty of convenient parking, and rarely interacted with any other guests. Used the weight/cardio cabanas - definitely dated. Pool was well liked by the kids and heated to 86F. Got takeout breakfast each morning - a bit hit or miss depending on the staff taking and prepping your order. Also got drinks from the bar and sat outside under heat lamps. That was very enjoyable - we had the whole place to ourselves. A nice dinner and Mexican bar/restaurant across the street. Fun LandRover experience down the road. Enjoyable resort grounds to be outside, take in the scenery and get covid off your mind for a little bit.

There are few resorts left that combine the quiet, understated style of Quail Lodge with a tranquil setting on a lovely golf course. While it is certainly not flashy (or even quite five star elegant) that is a big part of the appeal. The rooms are very comfortable, many featuring lovely nooks and gardens, and are equipped with luxury Molton-Brown amenities, though they don't strive to compete with Four Seasons or other five star brands. The golf course setting is pristine. The perimeter walks feature moments of zen-like beauty. Add to that the ideal location just minutes from Carmel Village, Point Lobos, and Big Sur, and you have a gracious high quality destination resort, the perfect spot from which to explore one of the world's most beautiful regions.
