Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location near the center of town. Relatively recently renovated rooms. But the walls and floors are very poorly sound insulated. I could hear lots of noise from both above and to the side of my room. Definitely bring earplugs and consider another option if you are a light sleeper.

Carmel stop on our San Francisco to Palm Desert road trip. Standard accommodations with parking and close access to town. Easy walk to the beach. Everything was clean and the simple breakfast buffet was all we needed. A pretty little courtyard provided a nice sitting spot.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our road trip to LA. Basic hotel but it has everything you need and is clean. Light breakfast offered and free parking was good! It is in a good location for restaurants/shops.

Stayed here for one night on a Choice redemption. Carmel is an expensive city, and I appreciated having a points option available amidst exorbitant rates at the inns and motels around the cities. I stayed in a nicely furnished King room that was modern. The bathroom had strong water pressure. The property was well-located and walkable to downtown. The breakfast options were run-of-the-mill with average coffee. I appreciated the friendly service from the stay-in manager who was also able to hold my bags while I was away at an event. I hope the Comfort Inn sticks around as an option, especially for international travelers who have loyalty points but are shocked by Carmel's high prices.

Nicely remodeled and very clean. On the small side, but reasonably priced during our stay for the ProAm at Pebble Beach. Loved that we were in the downtown area of beautiful Carmel, with lots of great restaurants and shopping around the corner. Our cleaning lady was attentive and friendly and added to the comfort of our stay.

The rooms are very clean, modern and spacious with lovely comfy beds and lots of clean towels. The breakfast was ok and served in a small room with the check in desk. There are no elevators so be prepared to carry everything upstairs if you have an upstairs room. Location is excellent and there is parking on site. Coffee machine and fridge was good.

In Carmel-by-the-Sea where the charm lies in its boutique hotels, restaurants, and unique shops, the corporate-ness of the Comfort Inn sticks out like a sore thumb. The small but recently renovated rooms contain good amenities and are modern and pleasant, but the main issue is the location off of busy Ocean Ave and lack of soundproofing. It's a quick walk to downtown which makes it very convenient, but the constant traffic noise is bothersome. Plus the soundproofing between rooms and from the outside is virtually nonexistent. We were in a downstairs room the first night and constantly heard footsteps above us, and the voices and toilet flushes of our neighbors. The office cheerfully switched us to an upstairs room the rest of our stay, and the footsteps disappeared but the voices remained, as did the constant roar of engines outside the door. Free breakfast is good if you like the same powdered eggs and breakfast sausage every morning. At over $300 a night, it's comparable in price to most places in this very pricey town, but also the most expensive Comfort Inn we've every stayed at.

I really wish I'd read more reviews before starting our stay because I now see that several do mention noise. I have to believe that our room (#55, downstairs backing up to Sixth Street, which has a convenience store across that street) is one of their noisiest. I am kicking myself because we originally were assigned an upstairs room in the middle of the property (#61) that I declined because it was hot up there (electricity was out for several hours and the window gets full afternoon sun), plus I didn't want to carry our large suitcases up so many stairs (no elevator, even if there was electricity) after a long day's drive. We stayed 3 nights: Tuesday after Labor Day, Wednesday and Thursday. The noise factor just from folks walking or rolling suitcases in the room upstairs or talking (#66) was pretty bad, but at least it typically did not last more than 30 minutes or so at a time. I fell asleep by laying on my side and covering my exposed ear with a pillow. On Wednesday morning at about 4:50 AM, the sound of loud engines roaring right outside our open window toward Sixth Street (there's no a/c in the room), along with beeping like from trucks backing up, the sound of electric hand trucks whirring around, and what sounded like pallets or other heavy items being moved around and workers talking jolted us awake. It lasted for about 50 minutes, followed by more general work and street noise for awhile. I went back to sleep at that point by closing the window (which made the room warm & stuffy) and putting a pillow over my head. Woke up feeling like I hadn't slept at all. Thursday morning's noise started around 5:30 AM, though not quite as loud as the day before. I closed the window and found that running the portable fan in the room (which has a constant hum) helped even out the sounds outside as well as the noises from upstairs so I could go back to sleep. Thursday morning, I happened to awaken at just before 6:00 to go to the bathroom and was delighted that there had been no noises yet. About 10 minutes later, a garbage truck came along, making lots of noise for about 10 minutes, but after that it was just occasional cars, people talking out there and a few doors slamming at the hotel. I mentioned the noise to the front desk the first morning, and she shrugged it off, saying maybe it was garbage trucks, but they don't come until after 7:00 AM. The other negative was the outdoor security lighting that shines through the top of the curtains enough to dimly illuminate the entire room. That didn't bother us, but if you need a really dark room in order to sleep, bring an eye mask Outside of the noise and lights, I would have given a 4-star rating. This hotel is comfortable, charming and well-located along Ocean Street (the "main drag" in town). Our room was decorated invitingly in a beach motif, with light colors that made it feel very airy and light (I mention this because I saw some reviews mention theirs being dark). It was very clean and lovely. The beds were comfy. The hot breakfast was only scrambled eggs and sausage patties, but there were cold cereals and yogurts. We mostly chose to eat breakfast in town.

Cons: I do not understand is why it is more expensive than the hotels around. The construction is old, the walls are too thin, so you follow the conversations in the other rooms. Tiny parking, so you have to park on the street. Next block there is a better hotel, cheaper, with spacious rooms with a view and fireplace. Unfortunately it was full and I had to stay here. Pros: Location, walking distance from city center. Breakfast is as good as other similar hotels.
