Nice place. Clean. Nice staff. Pool. Rooms are fine too. We had breakfast at Restaurant - decent. Super close to pt lobos and to town of carmel. No issues. Value for money. Quiet. (I am adding these words to get to 200 characters so this will post - annoying feature )

The hotel is well located. There’s are dozens of shops and restaurants next door at two different shopping areas. The rooms are spacious, and updated. Some of the upholstery is showing it’s age. The hotel has a mid century vibe. The heated pool is open until 10.

Hotel is showing its age, but holds up okay. Equivalent to a lower level Holiday Inn, which apparently it used to be. Amenities and everything were fine, room was clean and cute. It's so expensive in Carmel generally, and you'll spend more time out and about than in the hotel,

Dear Guest, Thanks so much for your feedback. I certainly understand your concerns about our “outdated” and be advise we will commence a full guest room renovation mid year as well as hallway corridors. Many thanks and gratitude for your kind words about the staff! I hope I have the opportunity to welcome you back end of the year! Warmly, Candice Cancino

We reviewed the Carmel Mission Inn a number of years ago and called the review, "Five Star Resort at Two Star Prices." We have stayed at the hotel every year since then during December and each year they have made attractive and welcome changes and upgrades. Under the new

It's close to Big Sur with (as noted above) a gorgeous drive. There are hotels / inns inside of the park where you can stay, but if you want something more centrally located to also get to the Aquarium, grocery store, restaurants, etc. this would be perfect. However, as it's north of Big Sur and you'd have to drive through the park to get to it, the road closures might be an issue if you take highway 1. Otherwise you could take I-5 from LA to Carmel and then drive south to Big Sur or fly into San Fran and drive down from there. We did that with some friends from the UK and it was an awesome drive, we also stopped in Santa Cruz and that was super fun.

Is there anything around the hotel to see or do that is walking distance?
The Barnyard is behind the hotel. It has restaurants and some small shops. Beautiful place to take family pictures! You can walk across the street to a wonderful shopping center, called Crossroads. Great shops, restaurants, candy, coffee, cakes, shoes, travel gear, wine tasting, grocery store, pet store... It is about five minutes walk. Perfect to place to roam around. We go there everytime we visit Carmel. For the most relaxing day ever, go to Refuge. The hotel has information, or look it up on google. You have to drive, about ten minutes, but our very favorite place to relax!
