This was our second visit and we loved it as much as the first time. The location is great and although the property was clearly quite basic when it was first built, the owners have got it really nicely finished, to a high standard and very tasteful throughout. The hot tub and deck area is beautifully finished as is the lobby and breakfast area. Although limited in space, parking is included and convenient and the free breakfast is basic but of high quality- gorgeous granola, fruit and other cold options. The staff were all very pleasant and went out of their way to help. Would visit again.

We were satisfied and happy with our stay at the Hotel Carmel. We found the hotel to represent its online presence. It was a clean , bright freshly appointed property inside & out with a casual yet refined appeal. The service was great as we had an issue on arrival , but Orlando was quick in response to our needs and was able to rectify the situation.
The only complaint , but not such a disappointment ,considering the pandemic we're in , was the change in the breakfast selection and the annoyance of what seemed to be a router mechanism behind the television which would blink throughout the night.
Overall - this is a great little property to stay if you value a clean, charming , relaxing and quiet getaway in a small non corporate atmosphere.

The positives of our stay were the staff being very friendly and the hotel being located very close to downtown. We were also able to park without difficulty.
The negatives out-weighted the positives for us during our stay. The room is on the older side, but spacious. We were given a room with a door to an adjoining room, which was not included in the room description or disclosed to us before check in. During our three day stay, we had three different sets of "roommates" staying with us (we could hear the other guests as if they were in our room with us). It seems that the cleaning was extensive at least, but paying full price to have a room with a door connecting to strangers made for a less than relaxing holiday.

Having visited Carmel every year for the last 5 years and stayed in a different hotel each time, I can confidently say that If location and walkability are your priorities for a stay in Carmel, this is the ideal hotel. It's a beautiful boutique hotel within a brief walk of the beach and the main street in town, but just far enough off the beaten path to feel intimate and relaxing. The room was a good size and the balcony was a great spot to relax and watch the sunset. The grounds also have a nice outdoor seating area and fireplace.

The only reason I knock it down a star is because the room's decor has not yet caught up to the hotel's lovely exterior. Having previously stayed in town at The Hideaway and its sister hotel, The Getaway, I found their rooms to be better designed, albeit a little less spacious. If you don't anticipate spending much time in your room though, this might not matter to you.

In terms of COVID safety, I felt safe. All the rooms have exterior private entrances, so you never need to be in an enclosed hallway/elevator. The hotel offers boxed breakfasts (granola, yogurt, muffin, and canned orange juice) that you can pick up from the lobby and the front desk person pours the morning coffee so you don't have to worry about a touchpoint that dozens of guests have been in contact with.

Bottom line: If you prioritize location & walkability, stay here. If you prefer a trendier room, I'd suggest staying at The Hideaway or The Getaway, at least until Hotel Carmel revamps a bit more.

The beds are very comfortable, had no problem with WiFi and the location is so convenient and enjoyed being walking distance away from beach, restaurants and shopping. We were able to check-in 2 hours early as well which was very appreciated. All the staff are very friendly. Even though the parking can be a little difficult at times, that wouldn’t stop me from returning. Great place and very pleased!

The hotel property was VERY clean inside and out. It appeared possibly updating and/or remodeling has taken place in the last year or so as the rugs, furniture, bedding looked fresh! A painter was actually touching up the outside of the units while we were there - which felt reassuring. We wanted a property close enough to Ocean St that we could walk to as well as the art galleries and. Very quiet property with all the amenities we could want. Updated bathroom, good hot water pressure, gas fireplace that was great in the evening and a fire pit by the spa for lounging in the evening. Parking was free and accessible. We'll definitely stay there next time as well!

Location is convenient, two blocks from restaurants and shopping. Rooms are average, look like any motel room. For $599 per night, they should be upgraded. Carpets were sticky, gross. I thought the free coffee and a pastry in the lobby was a nice touch in the morning. At check out, they add a $20 per day amenity fee, so not complimentary after all. Location is really loud as well, delivery trucks and garbage trucks start driving up and down the street early in the morning.

My daughter and I stayed in an upstairs room with two queen beds. The room was spacious and comfortable, and included a mini-fridge, desk, easy chair, closet, nice sink area with ample counterspace for two, and separate toilet and tub/shower. A light breakfast is included in the price. The unit had good lighting, particularly over each bed for reading. My only disappointment was that the coffee pot, which used Keurig-type coffee containers, could not produce plain hot water for tea. There was no elevator in our wing, and whether upstairs or down, required walking up stairs, which was not a problem for us. I don't know if they have accessible units elsewhere.

The location of the Hotel Carmel is terrific: just a few short blocks north of Ocean Ave, and even closer to many of Carmel's wonderful art galleries. The property is immediately behind Brophy's Tavern, so handy for a quick drink and pub food. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be close to the downtown without the noise and traffic.

Super lovely staff and the room was clean and working properly. The walls are super thin. We did not get much sleep as the guest below us was snoring and we could hear it all night. The conversations in the room next to ours, though not speaking loudly at all, we could also hear as if they were in our room. If not for this issue, I'd stay at Hotel Carmel again.
It's not a cheap hotel so for $400 a night, I would expect that there would be better insulation or sound-proofing!

Hello LindaGray, Hotel Carmel does not have air conditioning. It is not common in Carmel as we have a moderate climate that is usually quite cool. We hope we have a chance to welcome you to our beautiful hotel!

They offer free parking for their guests. We had no problem finding a space in their lot. And it's so close to everything we don't use our car all weekend we walked two shops and restaurants and even down to the beach.
