40 minutes away from the main town Uturoa (you need a car, scooter or bike), nature all around, the landscape is really beautiful. Great rooms with spectacular views, spacious terrace, net over the bed, mosquito coils provided, nice little beach with beds and kayaks available, wifi. Louise and Cyrille are very nice and helpful. Buy your food when you arrive on Raiatea since there's nothing closeby. It is a lodge in the middle of the forest and you will be in contact with nature over there, it is an amazing experience (but if you are looking for the 4-5 stars hotel next to the beach, this is not your place). If you love nature, stay there!
Away from the main town Uturoa which was really nice (you need a car or maybe a scooter), forest all around, the surrounding area's landscape is really gorgeous. Great & clean rooms with net over the bed, mosquito coils provided, spacious area in front for kids/people to play, kayaks available, wifi. Louise and Cyrille are relaxed and super helpful. Buy your food when you arrive on Raiatea since there's nothing closeby. Really liked the place.
The lodge entry is down a very steep winding road. Had it been raining, the drive down and up the road could have been troublesome. The accommodations were adequate and clean. No a/c which we really didn't need. Appreciated the mosquito net over the bed. The property had Scuper Kayaks for our use. We were able to paddle to Taputapuatea from our property. I would stay closer to the north end should I return. Raitea is an absolutely gorgeous island.
We had a very big bungalow at Fare Oviri Lodge. Large bed with a mosquito net and an open shower, great! They have a kitchen where you can cook your own stuff and make breakfast or you can order it there at extra costs. If you cook your own meal then do groceries first, there’s no supermarket around the lodge. Louise, one of the owners, was extremely friendly and gave us lots of extra homegrown fruit. They have a small beach with some beds and you can borrow a canoe for free.
Oviri Lodge is remote but that's what we loved. Uturoa is busy and not attractive but drive away and find out the other side of Ra'iatea. Quiet, sparsely populated and endlessly tropical. Oviri Lodge's bungalows try to draw nature in and blend into the hillside. We were welcomed with 6 bunches of flowers, amazing views over the bay and beautifully hand crafted touches to the bungalow (e.g. flowers growing beside the shower). The breakfast is worth it! So much food we staggered back up the hill- grapefruit juice, coffee, coconut bread, doughnuts, bread, 3 jams, friands, eggs and pastries. Things to note: bring your own food for dinners (nearest corner shop 6kms away), you need a car and the driveway while steep is OK in a small car (we parked by the shelter, not up the drive to our bungalow). You will want a car to tour the rest of the island. There is a beach, free kayaks and wi-fi at the dining area.…
I'm very sad to give these people a very bad review, because I think they are good people. However... First of all, the lodges are VERY rustic - at least the lodge on the hill, where we stayed. This is closer to a camping experience than hotel/lodging. The problem is that the house is very poorly isolated, so all sorts of bugs make their way in. The ugliest bug is this worm that is hard as a bone and tough to kill. The floor was full of these worms and I don't know where they were coming from... probably falling from the ceiling. It might be ok for some guy friends who are into camping, but don't even think about taking a woman there. Even though the view is beautiful, the lodge itself is very sad looking, especially at night. Other complaints include a very expensive breakfast (CFP 1500), that consisted of a few slices of bread, butter, jam and half of glass of juice. The breakfast area was dirty and unkept and the fridge looked like it came from WWII. The beach and the access to the beach was very rustic as well - and not the good kind. The biggest complaint that I have is the fact that we paid 3 nights, however because of the things I mentioned above, we stayed only 1 night. We thought we would be reimbursed for the other 2 nights, but Alain didn't agree to it. I guess it's not exactly a real business... it's whatever Alain feels like is right. I hope they put our money to good use.…
We wanted to have something different during our stay in south pacific so we wanted to stay out from beach for a change. This is very good place for that. The beach is still very close but you have a great view from very personally designed cottages. It's a little bit far away from restaurants but if you have a car or scooter you'll be fine
