The staff at Ren resort could not be more helpful, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble for them. We felt really looked after. The room was of good standard, clean and the mattress was very comfortable. It is important to note that despite the crazy constructions going everywhere in sihanoukville, we felt like hidden from the outside world. Would go back and recommend.

A perfect place for leisure for both family and couple Great location, very friendly staffs. A beach and sea are just a cross-street in front of the hotel. The reasonable price in this city and the beautiful room with a blue crystal clear cool swimming pool. Highly recommended for all locals and foreigners.

Pure Paradise. Such a shame all the building going on as you reach this lovely resort, but once you are there you forget all of that. Let's hope they do not destroy it by building huge hotels around. The staff are delightfully, and it really is one of the most relaxing places to stay. We stayed in 2019 and also the year before. Reach, who. Amazes the hotel, it friendly yet discreet.

This trip was basically a reconnoissance run to see what had become of Otres2 beach.

Before 2020, this was an excellent destination for a beach vacation. In late 2019, the government widened and paved the beach road (now four-lane highway) and reclaimed beachfront and restaurants from the hotels.

The restaurant is now effectively closed, serving a mediocre breakfast to guests. Not sure what happens after that. It used to be our go-to for dinner, and that expectation was the main reason for staying there this time.

Desk is sporadically manned by very pleasant and helpful staff with limited English. Public areas are clean and well maintained with a few poolside lounge chairs.

Beachfront room was pleasant, some problems with water and hot water were promptly attended to. Aircon good. View was basically the road with beach in background. Shower floor was dangerously slippery.

No particular reason for a tourist to stay there now that it is no longer a beachfront resort.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Our room though had mold in the bathroom and a crack in the wash basin also a crack in the shower floor . The door in to the room was in poor condition and is in need of paint . One lamp was broken and they did not have a bulb to replace it . The view from our room was to the street which is in horrible condition and also a construction site across the street . The curtains had holes in them so one could almost se through them . The pool was nice but also need a tile repair . The street behind the pool is not walkable . You can not walk anywhere from the hotel . There is basically nothing around and the beach and the road is a construction site so you can NOT go there ! Sihanoukville in general is a nightmare . You just sleep one night on your way to and from somewhere ,this is ok for one night

The resort is very good, nice pool, personell and food. But since the goveenment destroyed the area. Recently the beach restaurant and bars was bulldozed down and a road is going to be built between the resort and beach. The chinese are rebuilding the area with huge hotels and it’ll take many years until it is nice to stay in this area.

As mentioned by many reviewers, the staff are all very nice but all the facilities needs to repair especially the pool deck and the air con system in the room. The WiFi are very slow. Those handicap need to highlight so they can assign you to the lower level as there is no lift

Stayed 1 night via transitting through Sihanoukville (which when we went looked like a war zone). Staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for us. Rooms were ok although needed some TLC (holes in curtains, quite a few mozzies).
Breakfast was nice. Paid $20 for taxi to the airport.

Pool looked nice, but was pretty mucky from all the dust of the building works.

Once Sihanoukville has been fixed then this could be a nice hotel to stay at on the beach.

Note the hotel no longer has a DVD library.

First, the Ren Resort no longer exists as it is now called Venice Resort. But if you are looking for a hotel in Sihanoukville then the reviews here are more useful as there are not any under "Venice Resort" yet. Also, other than the sign outside the hotel, everything is still branded as Ren!

Milton's Paradise Lost is about the fall of Man, temptation and expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Sadly there are some similarities between that and Sihanoukville in general and to this hotel to some extent. Let me try to explain:

Sihanoukville is being destroyed. The whole coastline has been bought by Chinese developers and the charming bamboo huts, bars and boutique hotels along what was once a beautiful beach with clear waters, are being torn down and replaced with huge concrete uninspiring monstrosities lacking any charm or beauty. These will apparently mainly become "luxury condominiums" I assume for the Chinese to buy as holiday apartments. Any feel of Cambodian culture is thus being eroded and the infrastructure just can't keep up with all of the development; the streets and beach are littered with rubbish, there is plastic and dust everywhere.

The good news is that this hotel is just about as far away from the town centre as you can get on "Otres 2". We only went into town once and that was one time too many. However the hotel that was on one side of Ren/Venice has been bought by Chinese, knocked down and replaced by a bigger hotel. There is still work being done on it, but the noise wasn't too bad, possibly because we were there mainly over the (Cambodian) New Year. There are about three or four more similar beach hotels in Otres 2; The Secret Garden, Tamu, Mary, and White Residence (we liked Secret Garden to eat at sometimes). Between these are several plots where whatever was there has been knocked down and development on these plots are at different early stages.

Further up the beach is "Long Beach" which is a public beach and had been cleaned for the New Year. Set back from this beach is a casino and more building works. At the north end of the beach is "Otres 1" where there are a number of beach hut bars/restaurants and backpacker accommodation. There is then an outcrop of rock with a dilapidated hotel but if you continue north there is another long stretch of beach. Other than the Sunset Lounge the rest of that stretch leading to Sihanoukville was really not very pleasant.

So about the Ren in particular....the positives:
1. The Cambodian staff - all were immensely friendly and always smiling. In particular Mr Reach who ran the bar/restaurant has an excellent eye for detail and gave us a wonderful welcome. He could not have been more helpful, and did lots of little things to add to our experience. He is also happy to talk and answer questions; he is a great asset to Ren/Venice Hotel.
2. The pool - we had a poolside room and it was great to fall off our patio straight into the clean pool!
3. Cleaning staff were friendly and did a good job; our room was always immaculate.
4. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Free water was provided every day.
5.The beach - whilst the Ren/Venice's part is small, it was cleaned regularly and it was indeed pleasant to lie there enjoying the sun (and great sunsets).
6. Food and drink - I enjoyed an omelette every day for breakfast and there was also a buffet serving bacon, sausages, beans etc as well as noodles and rice, fruit and bread / pastries. The pastries were a bit dry though.
Cocktails were very good too; reasonably priced. The menu for lunch and dinner is comprehensive and we thought the food was excellent. We only went to The Secret Garden for a change of scenery / slightly different menu.
7. Whilst there was no spa/massage available at the hotel, you only need to walk up the beach to find 1 hour massage for between $8 and $15.

The downside - I don't want to sound xenophobic, but it was the first time we had spent a lot of time in close proximity to a lot of Chinese people and we found that difficult. In particular the constant clearing of throats and spitting, belching and even farting at the restaurant (and everywhere else) was not pleasant. They were very loud and the way they treat the Cambodian staff made us wince. Shouting for "more water, more water" or "you are too slow, get me chips now!" There were few other non-Chinese guests and on our second night one Australian guest was so angry at how disrespectful they were being to the staff, it was all I could do to stop him starting a fight with the Chinese. The Chinese owner was also present and never even smiled once at us. The other issue is that a group of the Chinese guests seem to go out and come back between 12 and 3am and have absolutely no thought for anyone who might be sleeping; we were regularly woken up by slamming doors and loud voices when they returned from the casino.

The one exception to this was the Chinese Manager, Chris, who was absolutely delightful and friendly.

I totally appreciate that all nationalities have their faults, including some Brits abroad, but if you want to have a peaceful relaxing holiday it would make sense to go where there are like-minded people. Now that the Ren/Venice is managed by the Chinese, I suspect the trend towards more Chinese guests will continue.

To conclude - Cambodia is an amazing country with wonderful people, but I would not recommend Sihanoukville. However if you are coming here, I would recommend the Ren/Venice resort as the negatives mentioned above are present at all the hotels in this area, but the positives make this the best place to stay.

Whilst not a bad hotel with an ok pool, room shower etc, there is a very very noisy and imposing construction project behind it and, also, another (!) next door. The loud noises can be heard all day long in every single place including the sea. Not relaxing and feel the hotel should have told people about these 2 projects immediately adjacent to the property.

To top it off (on our first night) we saw a letter on our bed saying there will be a party tonight around 8km away, I really doubt it is 8km away as we could hear and almost feel every loud thudding base filled tune/beat.

Essentially not conducive to what was supposed to be a lovely relaxing break at the quiet end of town.

Breakfast is buffet style and it is part of room fee. Our room had chairs on the balcony. I found the bed to be okay, not soft by western standards, but I don’t like a soft mattress. Not sure about requesting a mattress topper. You may have to get one from Sihanoukville.

The beach in front of Ren resort is kept clean by the staff everyday. Otres beach is not a city beach. Ren resort is at the quite end of otres beach.
