Recently stated at the Jolly Roger while visiting the area and after reading some reviews was definetly shocked. The location is great, close to gas station/mini mart and dining, and not too far from beach. Its a great price for getting a hotel in that area, but nothing a motel 6 can't give you! The 2 beds were comfortable however...

Thank you for comments and feedback. I have instructed the housekeepers to contact our maintenance personnel when a refrigerator needs defrosting. They had unplugged the unit and left a towel in the unit and then had forgotten to finish the job. I have also have been working with them more closely regarding details on how a room should be presented...

Liked the hotel staff a lot, but the room was pretty tight for 4 people. No sink in the bathroom, only out in the room. Good location, and good price, but would have liked something more roomy. Enjoyed the free parking.

The room was spacious with two good size double beds, the breakfast was acceptable served by a very friendly lady and there was ample free parking. The Jolly Roger provided free WiFi. We booked the hotel through a third party and it was an expensive hotel room for what we got but I guess it was ideally located to Venice...

Easily accessible by public transportation--take the LAX shuttle "C" to the bus depot lot. from there take the Big Blue Bus #3 to Lincoln and Washington. or a short 20 minute drive in your rental car. (PARKING is FREE, WiFi is FREE). The location is dynamite, right on the corner of one of the trendiest streets in Venice (Abbott Kinney)...

Stayed here four nights. I travel very often for work and don't need resort like qualities. This hotel had an almost depressing feel. If you are on a budget and don't want to stay in a hostel this is your best bet for being close to venice beach. If not cough up the extra 20 for something a little less...

Regarding your review, I'm still trying to figure out what occurred as nothing is specified. I don't recall any situation that would warrant such a review. I certainly would not consider the hotel to be depressing. And as for myself I as well as my staff we treat every guest with respect and are always willing to address any concerns...

Compared to where we stayed when we passed thru LA last August this was much better value. The staff accepted up cheerfully at midnight and we had a comfy night and a average breakfast served by an above average lady. We paid for 2 nights because we weren't flying our until 11pm and needed to shower etc before the long...

I recently stayed at the Jolly Roger Hotel (MDR, CA) for two nights (April 1-2, 2012) after moving out of my Venice home and just prior to relocating to the East Coast. The staff could not have been more accommodating, friendly and professional form the moment I made the reservation and throughout my stay. Kudos to Awad, Donna and the...

The hotel is quite dated but for the money you can't really complain! Good location plus bonus of breakfast and coffee to start your day. Good pub just round the corner too! Robin who was in the breakfast room was such a character, so refreshing to have staff who are interested in what you have to say!

I was really impressed with the Jolly Roger. Yes, it's old, but very well maintained and super clean. I got the impression that the owners/staff really take pride in what they do. Plus, the location is great! Close to Venice Beach, lots of restaurants, and just a short drive to the LAX. They also have free wi-fi and a continental...

Clean, efficient and pretty friendly. A little dated but then what do you expect for that price?

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
