After multiple visits here over the last 7 years this last visit was so very disappointing. Different prices quoted, poor front desk employees and no explanations when asked about these issues and others with no return phone follow up from them.
Very disappointed in our stay, we have been coming for years (like 15-20 years) and love this location. It is a BEAUTIFUL location! The cost of the hotel has gone up and the property has gone downhill. The rooms are out dates, the staff is not friendly, there is trash left by multiple rooms left for extended period of time, food was cold, no blender at the bar etc. I am really hopeful things start looking up for them because there is such amazing potential for this property.
Felt that this hotel was over priced. The fridge leaked so the carpet was wet. The room was much smaller than what the picture makes it look like. Tried to check in 10 mins early but they wouldn’t because the room wasn’t ready.
I am at the hotel now. Just read a few reviews to see what other people were saying. I’ve stayed in many hotels by the ocean and this place is the most run down hotel I have ever experienced. I booked this hotel to celebrate my boyfriends and my birthday. The hotel was found on the Groupon website with many attractive photos. The photos are way better then the actual property. We drove 4 hours to get to this location. I had called about 2 hours into my drive as a re confirmation and requesting a room on the fourth floor. I was told on the phone that they do no pre designate rooms that the rooms are a first come first serve basis with a 4:00 check in. We arrived about 3:50pm. When we walked in there was only one person ahead of us and many people following in the line. When it was our turn during the check in process we were told they do not have any rooms on the fourth floor. I was puzzled and disappointed as I requested a room on the fourth floor from reading a previous review at booking to stay in or near room 460. The front desk clerk lied to my face. We were put in a room that had an obstructed wall to the left blocking the view. As soon as we walked in I knew I was not going to be staying in that room. My phone call to the front desk was not helpful. They told me no rooms were available on the same floor down the way for a better view because other reservations were there from the night before. The cleaning people happened to be walking by and my boyfriend asked if any of the rooms were available down the corridor that did not have obstructed views. The cleaning ladies said yes I just finished cleaning a couple of the rooms. She said Call them back. My boyfriend called the front desk and cancelled our reservation . He said we are not staying here so please send a bellman to retrieve our things. The bellboy came to get our things. He was the same gentleman that delivered our items just a few minutes previous. We explained why we didn’t like the room so he said I will call for you. He called and had a conversation with the front desk. He was basically going to bat for us . I overheard some of the conversation and it went like this. No that room will not work. It has the same wall view just another floor. After a few moments he said ok that’s better. We didn’t get his name but so far he was the only thing positive with the first 30 minutes of getting settled. When we got to the room it did not have a wall but we had huge wooden slats of wood for railways that block the magnificent ocean front. The rooms are trying to have that boutique feel but lacking. The choice of photos on the wall are creepy. The windows were dirty. Chipped paint and drywall . The place looks like it has a bandaid on the rooms. It’s horrible. This place needs to be torn down and rebuilt . The outside has so much bird poop all over the place. Rusty pipes and left over cigarettes butts everywhere. I was prompted to write this long review because we just walked in our room after breakfast. Breakfast was decent on the 4th floor however very pricy. The view was spectacular at breakfast. We saw a few people walk past the big window at breakfast. I had asked the hostess if they had rooms on the 4th floor as I was wondering where all the couples were going and she said yes. We realized we were both lied to when checking in. This will be the last time we stay at his place. The Monterey Tides is on a billion dollar Piece of land. It’s too bad they don’t invest to make it that way . We won’t be back. |
Unfortunately only the venue lived up to expectations. The weather was great and the ocean and beach was fabulous everything else especially relayted to the hotel was either way overpriced or devoid of perceived value and mared with surcharges.
