The Hotel is very cool in regards to the look of the place and the age of the building. There are many antiques and lots of history and "ghosts". The history does not translate so well however to the radiator in my room. I'm fairly sure that it didn't go on all night. When I initially asked the front desk...

Spent "Victorian Christmas" evening in Nevada City and had a wonderful time with the beautiful and historic Christmas theme and decorations. The hotel takes you back to the 1800's with actual gas lighting at the table and chandeliers. The service staff was friendly and efficient. The prime rib was delicious and reasonably priced. Love the holiday spirit of the town...

I am sure all the other reviews mention how historic this place is and it is, but it's rather charming and fun. The bartender was pleasant and could have possibly been there since day one (I kid) but something about the place was really relaxing. Would strongly recommend grabbing a drink there.

We visited the National Hotel restaurant during our visit to the Victorian Christmas, set in an authentic gold rush era town and buildings. Our tastes were set on a steak dinner. Though only at one third capacity, the restaurant was way under staffed and the service was very slow. After seating, it took them about 15 minutes to acknowledge us...

As you enter the hotel restaurant and bar, it feels like you've gone back in time to the 1800's. Lots of dark wood, dim lighting, flocked wallpaper, framed landscapes on the walls, white tablecloths. (It would be especially nice on a really hot day, I thought.) Service was friendly but very casual. I think this was because we were one...

This is a Hotel with a ton of history and potential... but as a Hotel today that's about all it does have. Unfortunately it is very run down, the rooms are bleak and the shower in our room was too questionable looking for me to use. On a positive note all the staff were very friendly. It would probably take...

We had a group of 24 people go to this hotel for an overnight stay on 9/24. We also planned dinner and breakfast there too. After dinner some of our group went into the bar where a live band played and at dinner we enjoyed wonderful accordion music. The large veranda on the front of the National was the perfect...

I made reservations a month ago for 2 suites. My hubby and I and another couple were coming up for our anniversary. Last night at 8:30 I got a call from a woman who said her manager asked her to call and cancel our reservations because they overbooked the rooms! Tell me HOW can you overbook a hotel with 40...

We stayed on 7/28/16. We knew it was historic but had no idea a place could show such lack of pride in ownership. The king room was large but overpriced at $100 due to the poor quality of the room. Rickety, unsafe stairs, dirty furniture, unkempt garden. The room was hot and you couldn't close the drapes for privacy without...

The good thing about this hotel is the price and the location. The rooms are old and badly need updating. The mattresses and pillows also need updating. The rules are weird. 1 usd for your room key deposit ( when was the last time you did that ). We stayed three nights and we never once had maid service although...
