Blunsdon House Hotel, BW Premier Collection by Best Western presents a varied experience. The atmosphere strikes some guests as charmingly old-fashioned, though others find it lacks contemporary warmth. Spaciousness and cleanliness are highlights in the rooms, yet the decor and amenities are often described as needing a refresh.
Service quality fluctuates, ranging from attentive to neglectful. Opinions on value are divided; for many, the hotel's reasonable pricing outweighs any drawbacks, while for others, it doesn't justify the outdated aspects.

Detailed Reviews
Excellent standards are once more to the fore at his charming hotel. This is a favourite loction for me to stay and at times thes standards have fallen short. Thankfully the hotel has once more risen to the top of the tree with excellent staff, no issues with any of the rooms used and quality, fine food delivered to all. The service was excellent throughout each sector of the hotel. I was very impressed with the breakfast, especially the hot food which has been poor on temperature in the past. The quality of all the breakfast food was superb, particularly the sausages and eggs. Furthermore the food throughout the hot buffet was hot, not luke warm as in so many hotels; here the food was hot on collection and stayed hot throughout. The restautant meals were also very good, the portion size was just right and the mains were tasty and succulent; the deserts delicious.

First time I've been to Blunsdon House Hotel and the first time for a 'spa day' here.
I was given a voucher as a Xmas gift from my husband, and it was very well spent!
From start to finish it was brilliant, very well organised, all the staff so friendly & welcoming. I had 2 hours in the pool/spa/sauna/steam room, then had 2 treatments in Secrets, with absolutely wonderful service from Evie doing my treatments, and Barbara, the manager - who was just lovely, made my day stress free explaining everything i needed to know, & the reason I enjoyed it so much.
I then had afternoon tea in Carrie's bar, which was also perfectly organised, I had a reserved table ready for me & it was very quick & efficient. It really was faultless - the whole experience was. The beautiful views of our Wiltshire countryside as well, just added to my relaxation. (You can see this from various locations around the hotel)
Thank you to Secrets Beauty for their wonderful service. It was an amazing experience & I will certainly recommend & be returning soon!! Xx

I stayed at the Blunsdon Hotel as part of a coach party visiting the area. The hotel and staff were very welcoming even taking our luggage off the coach and up to our respective rooms. My bedroom was large with what looked like a recently refurbished bathroom.
Our party was offered a three course set menu for dinner which was varied. The food was good and the staff attentive. The only gripe were the bar prices which we thought were rather steep.
There was a great variety of choice at breakfast from fruit and yoghurt, porridge, and pastries to a full cooked breakfast.
The flowers outside were beautiful and the grounds well maintained.
An enjoyable stay.

I booked a night at this hotel with my family as we were travelling to Swindon for a competition. I thought it was worth booking a ‘luxury’ hotel, as a treat for my daughter.
The main reason I chose this hotel was the swimming pool, as my daughter has just learned to swim. However, when I arrived I was told the swimming pool was broken (absurdly suggesting that the temperature was ‘illegal’). I was told that an email had been sent to tell me this. I’ve just checked my emails and the hotel send me an email the day before arrival which was over 1000 words long, mostly about early check in and other tosh… there was a sentence buried amongst the text, noting maintenance to the swimming facilities but this was not clear in the slightest.
Onto the room… Upon checking in we were told that our room was in the executive pavilion, which sounds fancy but is in fact a separate ‘commercial’ looking building, which is at the end of the car park and felt completely abandoned. The rooms are advertised with a nice terrace balcony DO NOT BE FOOLED.. the balconies literally look onto the car park, which had random loners parked up in the early hours … The atmosphere was sinister!
Finally the breakfast, over £40 for two adults one child… We arrived for breakfast at 7am, which is the opening time on a Saturday. You would assume that arriving at opening time would ensure the buffet breakfast was fresh… YOU WOULD BE WRONG… The fried eggs were ice cold and the pastries had a stale texture, as if they had been sitting there for days!!
All in all, do I think that I got good value for £210 spent on a one night stay in Swindon? NO
Would I stay here again? NO
Would I advise anyone else to stay here? NO
Does it feel safe at night in the ‘executive pavilion’? NO
Are there many better hotels in the area? YES

Having used this Hotel on many occasions for stays and for dining experiences I was very disappointed this time around.
Check in was not straightforward as they couldn’t find my booking, only to be told I’d booked on a third party site. Since when has Best Western been a third party to their own hotels ??
I notice just how dated and run down the hotel was looking.
Seating in the main areas was showing signs of age with tips and damage.
Staff weren’t as friendly as previously, they didn’t speak first, only when spoken too.
The numbering wasn’t the easiest when it came to finding our room.
It was noticeably dated in our room and also not of the cleanest.
Pictures, mirrors and lights had a covering of dust as did the wardrobe.
The room had a slight odour which we said was maybe the “Air Conditioning” system.
Don’t be fooled, this isn’t an AC system, it’s a hot air system. The rooms get very stuffy at night as you’re not able to open any windows as the room doesn’t have any. It has French doors however being on
The ground floor it’s not possible to have the door open for the night.
Breakfast was an extremely poor experience, in fact probably the worst ever.
It’s all self service, from the tea and coffee through to the toast.
The coffee flasks AND the hot water were all empty.
No vegetarian options were available on either of the hot or cold serveries.
It felt more like an old canteen environment with the empty sounding room.
The cleanliness left a lot to be desired, cobwebs hanging from the windows and ceiling all around and above the food serving area.
Having been told to sit anywhere it was very diff with over a quarter of the tables still having dirty dishes and food on them.
All in all a very disappointing experience for what was a getaway for my wife and I.
And reception weren’t interested in our experience at check out !!
Definitely won’t be staying here again unless they drastically change, which I very much doubt

Response from Blunsdon House Hotel, Owner at Blunsdon House Hotel, BW Premier Collection by Best Western
Responded 14 Oct 2024
Dear Steve M0nster, First please accept our apologies that you had a less than ideal stay, certain of aspects of your review certainly warrant further investigation and remedy. A senior manager is always on duty and available to our guests, they would have quickly investigated and resolved any of your concerns, had they been raised with us at the time of your stay. We do feel this review contains some inaccuracies, and we wish to set the record straight. Best Western Hotels are all independent owned and operated hotels. This is and has always been the case. Blunsdon House Hotel has been owned and operated by the Clifford family since its inception in 1960. Your booking was made via Best Western GB, this is a third party marketing organisation and unfortunately the information for your booking was not correctly conveyed to us at the property. This resulted in a brief delay at check-in and set a poor tone for the rest of your stay. The room numbering at the hotel is relatively simple. The first number of all of our bedrooms refers to the floor (in either building). All rooms 10-40 are in the main building and 60-80 are in the Pavilion. E.g. 365 would be found on the third floor in the pavilion. This is explained in the guest directory and also at check-in. The pavilion rooms have AC. It's a whole building system, powered by a large cooling compressor and heating circuit. The temperature of the air produced by the system is directly related to the external temperature. Now well into Autumn the temperatures have been dropping into low single figures at night, which is why the air is heated. All rooms have doors and windows that can be opened if a customer requires more fresh air. Vegetarian options are available and are cooked to order. These are included with your room rate, this is noted on the breakfast menu. From our perspective it is disappointing that given the numerous of previous excellent visits you recall - that you have never taken the opportunity to review one of these. You can see from our typical feedback our guests are far more likely to have a great experience than a poor one. That said, like any hotel we are certianly not infallible. It is particularly disappointing that you would not return and that you "very much doubt" things would change when by your own admission you recognise this experience was not as you would expect. As previously communicated, we would be happy to investigate these issues for you thoroughly if you wish to contact us and discuss them. We wish you safe onward travel. Kind regards, BHH

Here on a business trip but also took in a Xmas party
The staff are lovely. So polite, so helpful
The rooms are very dated - stained wallpaper on the ceiling, no USB charging points, but they are clean. Very warm though - even with the radiator turned off and the window open, it was stifling hot and difficult to sleep, even in the December!
Breakfast was plentiful and not bad value for £10 The bacon was awful, - barely cooked - Whicker the eggs were burnt to a cinder under the keep warm lights.
The rump steak was a joke for £28 Over cooked and you needed mechanical teeth to chew it - it was very pretty but that isn’t really the point with a steak!
The DJ was good for the Xmas party but again the food - especially the turkey was disappointing and sooo dry
Bar stupidly expensive, as per usual with these hotels - make you’re money out of the £100 per night you charge instead of ripping of the customers
Fortunately, if you come out of the hotel onto the main road and turn left, there’s a beautiful little pub less than 5 minutes away called the Heart in Hand
Friendly, welcoming and very busy for both food drink and you can get a pint for £4!

Old fashioned outdated conference venue with poor business facilities e.g AV equipment, and even air con! Food servers interrupt meetings disrespecting confidentiality and when politely challenged their attitudes are poor. As business customers the whole experience was very Fawlty Towers! Avoid! Rooms and decor in general looks extremely outdated… this place needs a serious investment and overhaul. Wedding or funeral maybe… but avoid for business!

Stayed here the weekend, was given an upgrade to an executive room with balcony - however I didn't think the room was very executive, it was situated in another building away from the main hotel with garish tartan patterned carpet and lots of green metalwork, was very prison like walking to our room, and although the room size was very big, the furniture was old fashioned and the bathroom needs modernisation, very hard to flush the toilet, took two hands to press the flush in the wall!! Also I have never stayed in a hotel that had a clock on the wall that ticked loudly all night! Very disappointed overall. Best part about the room was the view. Staff friendly enough and breakfast choice was good, although there were no eggs available when we got there, they were being cooked, would have been an idea to replenish items before they actually ran out.

Response from Blunsdon House Hotel, Owner at Blunsdon House Hotel, BW Premier Collection by Best Western
Responded 30 Sept 2024
Dear Angie, We were sorry to read that you felt disappointed with your room upgrade - we provided this as nice gesture and not to inconvenience you in anyway. The pavilion is a separate building (as per our advertising) and is located 50 yards from the main building. It is purpose built and modern with large, spacious room and subjective decoration opinions aside, extremely well received by our customers. The wall clocks in our rooms are radio controlled, Seiko units and should not tick. We will investigate this promptly and also attend to the toilet flush in the room. Breakfast in flame is a often a busy affair, catering to up to 300 guests. Food is constantly replenished according to demand. Please accept our apologies if you were inconvenienced at all. We were very happy to read that you found our staff friendly and efficient and we hope to welcome you again soon. Kind regards, BHH

Wow Blunsdon House Hotel! What a weekend! You did our daughter and new son-in-law proud!
From start to finish, Martyn and his team made it the perfect wedding. Wonderful food, accomodation and the view from their suite was stunning. The convenient interconnecting room helped immensely with the preparations.
We could not fault any aspect of their big day, everything was so well planned and executed and Martyn’s attention to detail was everything we all had hoped for. Nothing was too much trouble.
All requests to accommodate any extras were met with a positive. The Marryoke, characaturist and the extremely large telephone box they wanted set up was dealt with seamlessly.
They let the happy couple plan their day the way they wanted it and weren’t restricted at all. All the guests loved the evening hog roast and the accompanying dishes. The pork was succulent and very moreish.
All the staff we encountered on the day were polite and helpful.
I can highly recommend Blunsdon House Hotel as a Wedding venue and also as a Hotel in a lovely setting with many additional facilities including pool and spa. The room for the marriage service, gardens for the canapés and the function room were all beautifully set out to comfortably fit all the guests.
Thank you very much Blunsdon House Hotel.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at Blunsdon House and it could have been better. Our initial issue was a couple we went to meet who's room was unavailable to check in at 3pm, which in itself was not a massive issue, but been given attitude from the reception team was uncalled for. We arrived an hour or so after them and checked in upon arrival but when they went at 3pm to ask if the room was ready, they were told rudely and rather abruptly that check in is FROM 3pm and we will call you when the room is available. We spoke to a manager regarding this, for which he apologised and explained they had a lot of late check outs.
We ate in the Flame restaurant for dinner and were advised to book early as it gets full very quickly. I think the Mary Celeste had more life than this place and probably better food too. I ordered the Ribeye Steak with a Chimichurri Sauce and when we spoke with the waitress regarding our food choices she said although some choices are on the menu, they are not always available as they don't get ordered. I wish I hadn't ordered the Chimichurri as it was just and oily mess, chios tasted as if they were cooked from frozen and the girls Beef Blade was cold in the middle served with what looked like packaged dauphinoise potatoes. With the place being so empty, service should have been spot on but we had to catch a waiters eye to get more drinks, dessert menu or even the bill. No-one bothered to ask how the meal was until I complained when the plates were being collected.
This Hotel is a halfway point between us and our friends and we were looking for somewhere to use as a regular meeting place but now we are in two minds if we will return, such a shame really.
On a positive note the rooms are well appointed and spacious, the grounds are stunning with amazing views and even though there was a wedding, the hotel was large enough so it didn't encroach on our night away at all.
