Palo Alto is hip, modern, gleaming (and pricey). The Cardinal is a bit of a relic. The service was good, the essentials worked well, the location is great. But the place overall is a bit worn. The elevator is a bit of a museum piece (you open a sliding door by hand), and after the first try I decided it... More

Right in the heart of Palo Alto. Could not be better located. As simple as that. Hotel as quirky things like old phone booths and original features in the lobby from the 1920s. But in the rooms it's moser and luxurious. Beds and pillows are brilliant. Feels like brand new. In an old property I thought floor boards would at... More

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel whilst visiting friends and family who live in Palo Alto. The hotel is in the best location right in the heart of Palo Alto. We booked a room with private facilities which was excellent. Room 307, corner room, airy, clean, comfortable and decent space. The bathroom was fantastic, powerful shower with quality amenities. Everything... More

The Cardinal is a tremendous old school hotel with very clean rooms and friendly, attentive staff. Located in a very nice section of Palo Alto......I am anxious to return. A Bistro near / Bistro Maxiene is really delightful with very experienced barristas and a wonderful menu.

This is a hotel that kept the old style in the common areas, but the rooms are very good, well equipped, big and comfortable. It is very well located close to main shopping road and close to a big Mall. I would defiitely come back next time in the area.

After my experience in San Francisco (SF) hotel i.e. cheap hotel in union square, I was not very optimistic about the hotel in Palo Alto. But I was wrong. This hotel was excellent and the cost was also affordable. I paid 139$ per night but had to share the bathroom with other guests. The rooms with bathroom are bit expensive... More

I thought the air conditioning in this hotel was "out" when I walked in the lobby. It was humid, and smelled like something that had been locked in a closet for too long. As this is an "historic" hotel, the elevator is very old - you have to slide open a heavy door to get in the actual elevator. When... More

Yes, it's an older property but it's got charm. When's the last time you were actually handed a key on a brass key ring with your room number on it? The room I was in was a combination of two rooms. It was redone to accommodate a queen size bed in one room and a large flat screen with love... More

When you enter the Cardinal Hotel you get a sense of what it was like to visit here 100 hundred years ago. The modernized original lift gives you a real such sense when you move up to the rooms. The same goes for the reception desk in the main room of the hotel.

Cardinal Hotel is ideally located for those visiting Stanford University. It is close to the Palo Alto Transit Centre which makes it easy to use the train or maguerite buses. There are many restaurants close by as well.
