The Bull Inn is not a B&B, it’s not hotel, but it is an award-winning boutique and quirky modern day coaching Inn, located near Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket in the picturesque county of Suffolk. The Inn and its dedicated owners simply radiate character, style and an eccentric passion, which is simply infectious to all those who visit. Think funky and fresh within an amazing 500 year old coaching inn. There is also a fantastic courtyard to while away many a summer's day with family and friends. Improvement and refurbishment never ends at The Bull, with the passionate owners always seeking and trying new, exciting and sometimes crazy ideas! The Bull has a whole wall of accolades to boast including "Best Small Hotel in Suffolk," "Best Freehouse in East Anglia" and "Best Sunday Lunch" to mention a few and the whole business simply oozes character and a unique charm created by the hands-on owners. The team work hard to host events throughout the year, from live music nights, murder mystery dinners, charity evenings, themed Christmas parties and lunches with Santa. This unique destination inn is located in the picturesque village of Barton Mills, just 2 miles from Mildenhall. Barton Mills is just on the edge of Thetford Forest with the towns of Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Cambridge and Newmarket all within a short drive.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sunday roast in the bar was the worst roast we've had for a long time. Everything served on the plate was luke warm, the beef was chewy, although the dog on the next table enjoyed it..., and the homemade horseradish had no taste.........overpriced at £21 Won't be going again.....sorry doggy 😢

Arrived early, entered the restaurant, but it was closed. General Manager stormed in as though we were robbing the place and told us to go back to the bar as it was bar service only. Escorted to table Waited…..Waited….cutlery was placed on table…….waited Eventually went to the bar to ask about ordering…….told rudely, bar service means bar ordering……OK Ordered…….waited……….waited………..waited………….50mins later our plates arrived. 2 of six were edible, 4 remaining were turgid fish fingers covered in batter, a gammon slice with what were listed as chunky chips….just half unpeeled potatoes dressed in fat. Paid the bill, asked for a managers name so we could make a review, was given the GM’s personal email No wonder nobody gets responses. All in all, my £150 bill was puked down the toilet on our return home. Not an experience I want anyone else to go through.

The service that we have just received from the Bull was absolutely shocking. I booked a table for the resultant, we walked in and walked through to the restaurant and no one said anything. As we was walking through the restaurant looking for someone, Liam the manager saw us and asked us what we was doing instead of the customer service ‘can I help you?’ He then said it’s bar food and took us through to the pub for our meal. He sat us down and didn’t inform us of anything, such as you need to order your food at the bar etc as we did sit at our table for around 20 minutes waiting for service. We had so many fruit flies flying around our table, I know that can’t be helped but for a 5 star AA restaurant you’d expect better than that. We ordered at the bar, we specifically asked for chips. Our meals came out and everyone had wedges. We explained we ordered chips, I don’t care what anyone says, wedges and chips are completely different. When the food came out we explained we ordered fries and not wedges. The manager Liam said he can change them for us but it would be to our cost. We said we asked for chips not wedges and he was so rude about it we was all shocked. We also asked for sauces which never turned up. The manager at this restaurant really needs to work on his customer service skills. My mums birthday meal has been completely ruined due to his mannerism. I’d also like to add, when we looked at the menu online there was plenty to chose from. Because it was a special occasion we wanted a restaurant, not a service where you order at a bar and not told this until we had waited 20 minutes to be served!

Went for a birthday meal for my mum, from initial entry, having a booking, we walked through to the restaurant, to which we was confronted by the manger and asked where we was going as the restaurant was closed. To which we said we had a booking and was told “ it’s round that corner” No point was we told it was bar service and we wasn’t even given our menus. We waited 10 minutes then went to the bar and asked for menus, which is when we are first told of bar service. We made our orders and on the menu there is a choice or wedges or “French fries” 4 out of 6 meals orders “chips” and all received wedges! After going to speak to the manager his answer was “ we don’t do chips so you get wedges” Now im sorry but French fries are chips, which is what we ordered and we wasn’t given what we order for 4 out of the 6 meals. When we asked for the chips we order, the manager said he can replace at our cost. Totally unacceptable when they got the orders wrong. The mushy peas just wasn’t edible atal. And to have a 5* AA rating on the front door when it is either expired or fake as I’ve checked on the AA WEBSITE AND THEY ARE NOT!! when asked for details to make a formal complaint the manger will give you the general managers email of Barton mills, being himself! So you email the manager himself! Formal complaint made to REDCAT pub company who who and run the pub! The managers name is Liam!

We stayed on September 17th and had a great time. Fantastic hotel rooms and amazing food, great quality for the price charged. Sunday lunch was very busy and the manager in the evening was very friendly. The only constructive feedback we’d offer is that the breakfast waitress was the only downfall as she seemed disorganised and unfriendly.
