Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pleasantly happy to give a five-star review. My stay was fantastic. The room was comfortable, and there was even a view from the fourth floor. Way off in the distance I could see the ocean. I was able to work remotely including doing a 1 hour video webinar from the lobby. The workout room is small but well equipped. The pool water temperature is perfect given the ambient air temperature, around 55°. And the hot tub, although the Jets were not functional, was also clean and warm. Staff were friendly. Plenty of free parking. The only issue, and it really wasn't much of an issue for me, the high school adjacent to the hotel produces a line of cars about 1 mi long during pickup in the afternoon. The drivers completely block the road requiring you to drive on the opposite side of the road for as long as a mile to get to the hotel. If you did not know this was a line of parents waiting to pick up kids, you might be inclined to wait in line thinking there was a traffic disaster up ahead. I wish Santa Cruz police would require an alternate plan for parents picking up kids. This hotel is not centrally located, and there really isn't anything within walking distance. If you don't have a car you will definitely be taking Uber, even if you want to go to 7-Eleven. If you're in Santa Cruz on business, or you've come here to go hiking, this is a great location because you're going to have to drive anyway.

The room was fine, clean & comfy. Front desk staff was not fine. They were very rude when I questioned them about the $20/per day fee in case we damaged room or stole something from the food for purchase area. We have been Marriott members for almost 35 years and never heard of this. The breakfast was OK but the bacon was not cooked. We talked to assistant Mgr & were told it was fine, that they don't cook anything on site it is brought in from somewhere else. Others complained about as well. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy and they did not care either. Just be aware if you stay here. Good location but terrible Front desk employees

This is a great hotel away from the downtown madness but still close enough to be convenient. Check-in was a breeze, our room was very comfortable, and breakfast had a great selection -- with outdoor seating! Natural Bridges State Beach is a ten-minute walk, and the terrific Saturday Farmers' Market is next door. the third and fourth floor rooms have balconies, but no furniture, so bring your beach chairs to enjoy the cool seaside evenings. Of the three Marriotts in Santa Cruz, this one will definitely be my go-to.

We stayed here for a one night stay during our trip. The rooms were spacious and clean. Except ours smelled a bit like cigarettes. My brothers did not. We had an accessible room and it was very spacious. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is nice with many options.

Reviews should be either one star(or less) or five stars. Do we really care about the in betweens? Marriott is a reputable brand name. You know what to expect and they usually deliver. But then came franchises. Fairfield Inns and Suites (definitely should not be capitalized)is a typical example of unaccountability by a franchise. The Bonvoy.Program@Marriott.com has absolutely no heft with a franchise. Any and all suggestions or requests for recompense are forwarded to the offending party...the site! In short, Marriott Inc is paid, and nothing shall shall come between. I shared with the Desk Host upon check out the excessive rust on the balcony deck (I don't know the depth or danger degree) and my opinion that the mattress should have been retired months ago. Adrianna offered me a $30 accommodation. I advised her that her offer was unacceptable since I specifically requested and paid for a King Suite with balcony which I couldn't use. I had to sleep on the pullout! I requested she have her General Manager 'Sky' call me ( a loyalty member) to resolve. No call was received by me from her. I left two additional messages with Adrianna over the next two days...no response. When I finally made contact with Sky from my work phone and with out announcing myself by name, she offered the same $30. I requested a regional supervisor contact information, which she refused and terminated the call. Of course a case was opened with the loyalty dept (see above) with a promised resolution in ten business days. I was told that Sky reached out to me without contact and closed the case. Obviously no contact was made. And why would Marriott allow their unrestricted agent to close this without follow up by the parent company? I think you all know...$$$. Think twice (hopefully just once after reading this) before getting bamboozled by their points program that really only recognizes a very traveled person. California is full of so many adventures. We can do so much better than Santa Cruz Marriott affiliates. Thank you for your time. PS: Charles, the front desk at check-in was slovenly dressed. Shirt untucked and severely wrinkled and kept touching his nose. Why has Marriott fallen so low?...oh, I answered that in the beginning 😎

We had a confirmed online reservation for two queen beds for two adults and two teenagers. We arrived after a long drive in the snow and rain, to a fully booked hotel where they had given our room to someone else. All that was left was a small room that could uncomfortably accommodate two of us in a bed and one in a pathetic mother-in-law sofa bed (you could feel every wire and bar digging into your back). The fourth person slept on the floor, which was more comfortable than the sofa. We got shrugs and excuses. There are much nicer, better run hotels in Santa Cruz. Stay in one of them, not here.

We were very pleased with our stay. Breakfast was great. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. They even had a table we could play board games on one night. Bathroom was updated and clean. Loved their shower. This is in walking distance form Natural Bridges State Park and that was one of the reasons we picked it.

Hotel is located on the west side of Santa Cruz. Free on-site parking and breakfast. Very close to Natural Bridges State Beach. Employees were very friendly and courteous. Rooms were clean and updated. The beds were comfortable. The pool was a little chilly and the hot-tub wasn't very hot. The only negative complaint would be the walls are a little thin. I could hear the kids in the next room. We would come back and stay here again.

After having problems the first time, we returned because of the new GM. The biggest problem here is bad service. The lady who checked us in was great, but that's where it ended. The guy who was at the front desk the first time was still there this time. His attitude is in the toilet. The first day we were there, he was arguing with another couple about not having housekeeping cleaning rooms daily. I think he said they only clean every THIRD day (we were there for one). The guy claimed it was because of COVID restrictions...this is the SAME guy who wouldn't wear a mask properly at the height of COVID the last time we were at the property. NOW, with NOBODY wearing masks, they're STILL using the same excuse? Next, my son asked for coffee. The guy seemed to find everything he could possibly do....every phone call he could take before bringing it out 30 minutes later. My son stood there waiting the whole time. BREAKFAST: The hot breakfast has gone downhill. Enjoy your hard boiled eggs vendor-style packaged waffles (with 22 grams of fat). SOFA BED: Totally sunken inn. I'll attach a picture. NO support. It's a pretty property with terrible service.

Find another place to stay. We chatted with front desk staff two days ahead of time and arrival day confirming they would have a travel crib on hand for us. They confirmed both times. At check-in, we were told there were no cribs available. Our child did not sleep and it was a terrible experience. I wish they would have been honest with us so we could have better planned.
