Love the hotel and town. Restaurants are great too. Always have a great time. We like the General Palmer over the Strator, which is nice too but too crowded and the breakfast there is not as good. And your parking is better, a nice big lot right behind the hotel.

The reception area of this historic hotel looks nice, but that's about all I saw of it. On arrival, I was told I was in the Palace Suite, which is not park of the main hotel building, it is an annex on the other side of the car park. The room itself in the Palace Suite was fine - decent...

Dear GingerMatti1, You booked from our website, and it is VERY clear what rooms are located in the Palace Wing. Interesting that your review says "traveled solo." That's not the case your husband/partner checked in you NEVER stepped foot in the Hotel Lobby. We do make it quite clear on all sources of booking that nine (9) of our thirty-nine...

Vacationing with another couple, we flew in to Denver and then made the southwestern drive to Durango specifically to ride the old train and to see the mountainscape around Ouray--I say this only because several people we met in Denver and Boulder had never made the trip down. A vibrant small city, Durango and its train and the General Palmer...

Dear Humbug42, We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. It's wonderful to hear that a traveler is exploring areas outside of the norm :) There is so much that Durango, and other adjacent areas have to offer, and our hotel provides a wonderful location...

Was very easy to find off highway 160. Hotel downtown, and half block from touring train depot. Steam engine stops right behind hotel. Which was cool. Main hotel classy with a good breakfast in the morning. Accommodations were another thing. Thought we were going to stay in the main hotel, but was put up in a 9 room unattached part...

Dear 19Todd, As your friend mentioned and I we responded...We've never had a complaint about the smell...Your complaint was never brought to the hotel's attention and the first we heard about it was from TripAdvisor. Perhaps had we known we could have looked into the problem. The Palace wing of the General Palmer Hotel is in the original historical Palace...

Staff was wonderful, room was clean and comfy but do not stay in the palace suites building because the restaurant below vents directly into your room. It was honestly the worst smell ever.. we woke up and left to find a new hotel.

Management response:

Dear JanellePiskura, Not sure how to even answer your complaint about the smell. We are sort of awestruck by the coincidence that two people staying the same time complained about the same thing...and what makes it weird is that complaint was never brought to the hotel's attention. Next time let us know in advance of a not so good review...
