My husband and I were recommended The Carrington Arms by a relative who had recently visited. So, we had to go and see for ourselves what it was like. We invited friends with us and had our first visit to The Carrington Arms last week. We were not disappointed! The food, service, atmosphere - everything! Was fantastic. Thank you to Sophie, our waitress who made sure we knew exactly how the menu worked, invited us up to meet the chef and ensured our visit was one to remember. Thank you! We will be back. :)

Brilliant stay at the Carrington Arms in a lovely, cosy room with modern amenities. We tried the restaurant, which was bustling, well laid out, with a great atmoshere. The chef cooked our steaks to perfection. Our server, Aimee, was so friendly, helpful and smiley, we loved our experience and special meal. Thank you to everyone.

Excellent food especially choosing your own cut of meat for chef to prepare the way you like it! Service was friendly and fast. Highly recommend the risotto - it was delicious and full of flavour. Large menu to choose from and a great atmosphere!

Our 43rd wedding anniversary date night. Fabulous service and amazing food. A bit noisy as a group of American business men in. Our waitress Caitlin was superb and needs to be awarded for her brilliant customer service. Will be back

Cannot be faulted, excellent all round. Stayed on a b n b basis and used the restaurant. More than adequate rooms , nothing fancy but all your needs met, clean well-maintained. Bar was good, with fair selection although a level up price wise on up North where we come from in comparison to similar establishments. Restaurant met expectations after choosing our stop based on reviews .Steak cut to your requirements was pristine. The sweets where a level up and a good price. Breakfast was again from the top drawer, ample choice of quality cooked to order. Service is as important as the food and both fulfilled levels above our needs. Well run quality hotel/restaurant with high levels of service and food.

I gave 4 out of 5 as I felt the cleanliness could have been a little more thorough. The headboard and coffee machine in particular, This place could be a 5 for me, check in was friendly and welcoming, easy car parking and c plenty of it. Room was behind the pub in blocks of around 4 rooms, all on the ground floor. Good size room with iron and board , fair size bathroom with over bath shower , plenty of hot water. A good night sleep had I cannot comment on breakfast as I did not have it !

Booked due to my daughter getting married in Milton Keynes. I’m astonished the hotel was the price it was I would and will pay more for a stay here. Excellent rooms had everything you would need personally I wouldn’t use tassimo coffee machines but that’s a personal preference. But saying that there is a small kettle provided but unfortunately no coffee sachets. I ordered my latte from the bar so wasn’t too fussed. The place is surrounded by beautiful country side even though the motorway is a 2 minute drive to connect too. Now for the food. The breakfast was amazing didn’t have to wait when it arrived was hot freshly cooked , what more could you ask for. Has for the steak comment . Don’t order steak if ya that fussy ! All the staff are very friendly especially the janitor who couldn’t have done more to please me and my husband. The place is a gem and I will return there every time my daughter visits her new in-laws.

Went for breakfast on Thursday 9th March and it was really really good. Lovely waitress who was very attentive and on the ball and was stretched a little when we first arrived as several business people on way to work wanted to pay and she demonstrated experience by managing to keep everybody happy with very minimal delay to those wishing to order and those wishing to pay. I had the full breakfast and I do like the idea of being allowed to replace one item so my black pudding was replaced by extra sausage. I opted for poached eggs, but fried or scrambled also available, and bacon, mushroom, beans, tomato and hash browns were all hot and very enjoyable and I enjoyed white toast with it. I so enjoyed my breakfast and will return very soon for sure. Lovely food, excellent service and lovely venue.

This review is based solely on my personal experience and not that of the rest of our 12 person group. I wasn't going to post a negative review until we received an aggressive and factually incorrect email response to a private email sent to the director of this establishment, Peter Dodman. Having had good experiences previously our group of 12 attended to celebrate my Brother's wedding. We booked 4 rooms. I fully expect a response to this review which may well be rude and contain inaccuracies but here are the actual true facts. I ordered a large, 16 ounce rump steak which was served in good time. The steak was in two parts and as I started to cut into the smaller part I could not cut through the sinew. At this point the waiter came over to check if our meals were satisfactory. As it is not uncommon for parts of a steak to be tougher than others I said yes. Matters got worse as the larger steak was exactly the same. I struggled to even cut into it, instead trying to tear it apart to find some edible section. Peter will allege that the staff saw I was struggling to eat my meal and came over to speak to me. This is not true. He will also say that I should have complained when the serving staff brought fresh drinks some 10 minutes later. By this time I had decided that I did not want to be eating alone as everyone would have finished by the time my problems had been resolved and it was a celebratory evening and I didn't want to spoil the event. When the waiter took my plate I said that the steak was inedible. Shortly afterwards he returned and said nothing could be done about it. At this point I asked to speak to the manager. So as to not upset our party or any other diners in the restaurant I asked that we discuss the matter away from the table. The manager was quite curt and reiterated that nothing could be done. We had a polite exchange and she said she would phone the owner. The implication here being that she cannot make decisions without his permission. And this is the case as the email from Peter said “I have the ultimate say as to what happens in my restaurant and how much of my money my team can give away.”. A few minutes later the manager returned and said we could have a £10 discount. I have never known a restaurant do this before. On a total spend of about £1,200 I could not believe they would not refund the entire steak. Peter's email says "I allowed my duty manager to remove £10.00 from the bill to save her having to further pacify the backlash towards her”. This is an absolute lie. Our conversation was not in any way confrontational. The next morning we discovered that our shower did not work and when my wife reported the fact there was a cursory apology. I do expect a rude reply to this review but I would ask you to bear in mind that Peter does not appear to have good customer service skills as reflected in his email to my wife. You may visit the establishment and have a fantastic time but be warned that if there are any problems you will get very little sympathy from the staff. Solely as a result of the email from the director, my wife and I and our 8 children and partners will never visit again.

Response from Peter Dodman, Owner at The Carrington Arms
Responded 19 Jan 2023
Good Afternoon, I am deeply saddened by your review, as I am really struggling to understand why you feel that my below email is rude or aggressive, as you and your wife has accused me of. Your wife also accused my staff of lying in her email to me, giving a very different set of events that I physically witnessed before leaving for home. Your review has actually confirmed that her account was untrue and that my staff's reaction was justified and in line with our complaints policies and my discussions with them at the time. We always look to help those who treat us with even just a little respect and courtesy, which you and your wife have been unable to show, only due to the fact that the decision to not refund you did not go your way. I in fact had to stop replying to your wife's emails due to not wanting to continue such an unpleasant exchange. For the sake of my staffs wellbeing, I am pleased to hear that you will not be returning. It must be noted that your brother visits us on a regular basis and that he always has a lovely time, speaking to my staff and management at great length, whilst building a professional and friendly relationship with them over such a long time. Fundamentally there is a reason for him to visit us time after time, yet you have visited once and had such a majorly negative reaction. We do not change our level of service etc from customer to customer, so it is clear that it is your attitude towards them which has caused this the overwhelming difference. "Good Evening, Firstly, I am very sorry that the shower in room 3 did not work. It merely needed resetting and I have now put a training schedule in place to ensure that all of my staff are able to help in future. With regard to the steak which your husband complained about, the reasons for not removing the steak from the bill are as follows: 1. Your husband was checked back twice regarding his steak by a member of my waiting team (once as the rest of the table were and again when one of them noticed your husband was not eating like the rest). No negative feedback was forthcoming. 2. There were two other occasions a member of my team delivered drinks to the table after the main courses were served. Again nothing was said then either. 4. We had no way of checking the steak for sinew etc as your husband had shredded it to such a degree, we couldn't investigate his complaint further. 5. We sold nine other Rump steaks from the same cut on Saturday evening, without any other negative comments. I feel that more responsibility should have been taken by your husband to tell us he was unhappy. (ie not as the plates were being cleared, which I must add the rest of the table obviously enjoyed, as they were almost completely clean) and we were therefore given no opportunity to offer a replacement and investigate the steak's quality. Furthermore, I allowed my duty manager to remove £10.00 from the bill to save her having to further pacify the backlash towards her, given my discussion with her on Saturday evening. For clarification, she rang myself, the owner, not the GM, as I have the ultimate say as to what happens in my restaurant and how much of my money my team can give away. She was following the procedure, which I lay out for my management team to follow. I think given the above a £10.00 reduction was fair. I have spoken with both the waiter and the manager since your visit and have been assured that apologies were given at the time and also that at no point did anyone say nothing could be done, apart from not removing the steak from the bill. It was however explained that there were countless opportunities to inform us of the issue with your husband's steak and he chose to ignore this opportunity, until the table was cleared. Apart from that, my stance remains the same. Telling me about how much money you or you husband's brother spends with us has no bearing on my decision. I certainly would not treat customers differently based on their yearly spend. If you choose not to revisit us, then I agree that it is a shame and I am sorry that you have come to that decision. "
