My partner and I spent 10 blissful nights at Imaj in Villa Batulayar, an enormous & stunning three bedroom, three bathroom stand-alone villa with a beautiful full size swimming pool. The villa is set in spacious private tropical gardens with magnificent views across the Lombok Straight to the island of Bali and majestic Mount Agung, and out over the Java Sea.

Imaj villas are only a short 10 minute drive from the tourist area of Senggigi Beach with its multitude of resorts, restaurants and shops; an hour’s drive from Lombok International airport and about 20 minutes from the island’s capital of Mataram.
All the famous Lombok desinations (Gili Islands, southern beaches, Mt Rinjani, Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfalls, to name just a few) are all doable via day trips. Airport or port transfers are easily arranged in advance, and anything from a lift into town to a full day tour can be organised through the excellent on-site manager Trifosa and her staff.

I have to say it was the professional but super friendly management of Tri and her team that were the deciding factor in our rebooking for second and third visits in just a few months’ time. That, coupled with the outstanding value for money, makes staying at Imaj a no-brainer.

Of course the absolute stand out is the magnificent pool! This is no 'private pool villa' al-la Bali style – no offence to the little plungers that pass for pools there!! This pool is full size, built for spending days in and around, boasting magnificent views, is crystal clean and clear and just a fabulous place to recharge and relax.

The villa is enormous, and while it accommodates 6 people via 3 bedrooms with ensuite, be aware that the usual villa inclusions such as cutlery, crockery, cooking appliances, glasses, cups etc. are not provided. There is a bar-size fridge – perfectly adequate for 2 people – but might prove a squeeze for a larger group. There’s a small kettle and two cups. That’s about it for kitchen amenities and the emphasis is very much on rest & relaxation, so self-catering is not encouraged. Having said that, an expansive Breakfast with multiple choices is included each day and Imaj provides an extensive menu of lunch and dinner options, as well as snacks, at reasonable prices. Every meal we had was delicious.

The architecture of the villa is quite breathtaking, with approximately 30 foot ceilings in the lounge area, intricate wooden features on external walls, doors carved and inlaid with shell … quite magnificent! My photos capture some of these features, but seeing is believing.

If I was going to criticise it would be to say the interior of the villa needed a thorough cleaning, particularly the bathrooms. And the bathroom fixtures (tap and shower ware) needed serious attention. Apart from that it was a perfect holiday and at a $100 per night via a Scoopon deal here in Australia, it represents just about the best value for money holiday accommodation I have come across in years.

There really can’t be any higher accolade to Imaj villas then rebooking within a few weeks of coming back home. Enough said!

During the trip, Imaj had an amazing team of staff taking care of us at the Villa. They were attentive and goes out of their way to help us. Honestly, they made us feel like we were the only guests around even though i know there were others. They accompanied us for our tour trips and recommended awesome places to eat.
The villa itself was simply breathtaking. Yes, theres like a 5minutes steep uphill bumpy road up but we had lots of fun getting a "massage". (Tip: get Imaj driver to drive you to wherever you need. a little bit pricey, but worth the money as they're really experienced!) The moment you get to the villa, you forget about the bumpy road and any other worries. The place was clean and beautifully decorated (fresh flower petals!). The view from the pool was breathtaking. Even now them i"m home, i can't forget the view and really wish to go back! The pool itself was awesome. It was clean and even at 9pm it was warm enough for us to swim. The toilets were clean and huge and so was the bedroom itself. The bed and even the sofa was really comfortable. There were some reviews about bugs but we never had any problems at all. The whole time in the villa, we had such a great time simply just sleeping, swimming and relaxing.
Would definitely recommend this place and i honestly cannot wait to return! I love this place. Thank you so much to the team at Imaj!

It was my first trip to Lombok and after a fun two days stay at Kuta, we departed to Senggigi to experience a more relax stay at Imaj Private Villas. True like other reviewers said, it was a long, rocky and bumpy road up to the villa and because we didn't asked for a pick-up from Mei-Lin, the driver who drove us there had difficulties navigating his MPV. But, after we arrived, we forgot everything. The feeling was totally awesome I felt like crying and really thankful to be able to stay at this amazing villa with a panoramic view of the ocean. The Matahari villa was so spacious for the three of us, the beds were comfortable, the pool itself huge and the most important thing, everything was clean. This is the best private villa with pool that we stayed so far.

A power cut happened during our two nights stay, the first night lasted for two hours, the second one fortunately less than half an hour. Staffs came with candles so it was no problem at all for us. We were kind of expecting the blackout after reading the reviews so we were prepared. We just spent our time lazing around the pool, stargazing and my son busying himself doing the astrophotography, which was not really successful, hahah.. The power cut happened around the same time twice, around 7pm, so future guests can plan ahead their activity during that time, dining out perhaps?

Trifosa and all staffs were polite, all smile and very accommodating. Tri is an experienced driver you can rely on her capability driving you around Lombok. The journey up and down the rocky road was nothing to her and we felt really comfortable in the vehicle whenever she drove us around. She recommended the tours, places to shop and eat and her words were so convincing we start planning our next trip before we even leave Lombok.

Things to share:
• An airport pick-up or transfer will cost you Rp320,000/per way
• A trip to Senggigi center where you can buy souvenirs or food will cost you Rp70,000/return
• Wi-Fi is provided but it was not strong. It was okay because we didn't request for it. For those who can't live without internet connection, please don't rely on Wi-Fi solely. You can choose to buy Indonesian SIM card s.a Telkomsel that provides three prepaid cards; simPATI, Loop and Kartu As, or the post-paid kartuHalo service, as well as a variety of value-added services and programs so you can stay connected anytime, anywhere. I paid Rp50,000 only for 4Gb use of calls, sms and internet that was more than enough during our 5 days stay in Lombok.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay at Imaj Private Villas, many thanks to Mei-Lin and Imaj team, you made our stay at Senggigi worthwhile and memorable. Highly recommended and will definitely come back!

We stayed in Imaj from Jan 16 to 20.
Our overall experience at the Villas was dreamy. I am now in Bali and God... I miss the peace at Imaj. Yes... this is a retreat for those who seek a peaceful and calm place to stay. The place is quite difficult to reach if not by taxi or arranged pickup from the staff (recommended). Once you are at the Villas you will be 1 km from the main road to Sengiggi but do not be afraid... the road to the Villas is bumpy (as some roads in Lombok) but it is worth the hazzle. You will be close to nature, amazing views, excelent service ... staff ready to pamper you and to fulfill your demands. The place is perfectly safe... we did not have any bad experience but of course you have to have all cautions just as in any hotel. There are some minor improvements that could be made to the Villas like cleaning the curtains, removing some spiderwebs and... of course fixing the toilet at the front desk... first impressions count. Also... there are some cats around... be aware of it if you are allergic. The staff is extremely helpful and kind. A blackout happened during our stay and it got hot during the period but... we are used to some heat in México. . So no problem. We spent that time chilling by the pool and meditating on how lucky we were to have the chance to visiting other countries. We were provided with a battery-powered lamp during the blackout and although there is no generator... we were glad it is something unusual and glad it gave us time to get rid off the mobile phone and get bac to human to human communication. Hope you can get to give our regards to Jupri who did not only drove but was really interested in Mexican culture and made us feel like friends. Also... for the tours be aware that you will be taken to places where you actually have to bargain the services (sasak village and Tiu Kelep)... people at the hotel can arrange excursion to all kinds and all over the island and they are all worthed the time and money spent. If you can pay by cash... it would save time when checking out because (lol) they ran out of paper when we checked out and some guests had to wait to try figuring out how to pay. They massage service is... okay but could get better. My last words would be.... you will be found in paradise once you check in. So do not hesitate in choosing Imaj on your trip to Lombok (which is more fun than Bali :3) I wish there were direct flights from Mexico to Lombok hehe to comeback again at Imaj. Cheers to all the staff :)

I will just put it in the simplest form possible for this review.

Stayed : 17th January 2015 ~ 20th January 2015

Location wise : Top of the hill with no attractions/inflated-price restaurant nearby (15 min walking down the hill) If you are walking at night, make sure you take a torch light, there is ZERO light source from downhill until villa. The hill slope is quite steep as well and you will sweat a lot if you try to walk back to villa.

Road condition : From downhill until villa, it is a roller coaster. The road condition is so bad that I will not return to this villa again. It is most probably one of the saddest road I have seen in my entire life yet.

Customer Service : I had never felt so angry in my entire trip.

Pros :-

1) Customer service staff is always smiling and polite.

Cons :-

1) Placed my next day breakfast and inform the staff that I would like my breakfast to be prepared by 7:30am as I will need to go out for sightseeing on 8:00am. I was promised that there is no issue with it. I got my meal at 8:10am. I have to actually rush for my meal as my driver are waiting for us.

2) As I do not want this incident to repeat, I have to reschedule my trip the next day so it won't happen again. Wow, I have to follow the hotel breakfast schedule now.

3) On my last day of trip, I had to go to airport at 7:00am. So I asked the staff whether they can prepare breakfast for takeaway by 7:00am. The staff did state that the cook will only come at 7:30am to prepare meal for guest. He double confirm with the cook to see whether if there's any exception can be made to our case, and he confirmed and promised that our breakfast will be ready for take-away at 7:00am. -The next day at 7:00am, he told me that the cook have not even reach the hotel yet. Another broken promise.

Hotel Conditions :

- Room is dusty, but I will let this off as they decorated it with lot of petals all over the bed, that was beautiful.

- Swimming pool is kind of murky, was told that I can swim anytime, but no lighting was on after 7pm even after informed the staff to on it.

- Electricity was cut off at 6:30pm to 10:00pm. Staff told us that this happened on monthly basis. No power generator at all. I have to bath in the dark with only 2 candles and light source from our own mobile phone. Requested for torch light, staff walked off into the dark and never came back. No idea he was swallowed by some evil spirit or I was talking to some ghost.

- WiFi was down when I reached there on first day, at least they took an effort to reboot the router and get the internet to work.

- Aircond : Very old aircond, noisy and take forever to cool the whole room.

All in all, I would rate 0 star, but it is not possible. Lombok is beautiful, but thinking back the villa (especially the road condition), I would get a chill in my back. That 4 days going back to the villa, is a nightmare.

One more thing, luckily this is not our honeymoon trip.

Hi Ernest Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate all feedback good or bad as we strive to improve. I will reply to each point 1) Location: Some people love the road, some people hate it! But once you get up to the villas most guests say it's worth it for the peace and quiet and the views. 2) Breakfasts': I apologize but our breakfasts are served between 8-10am. Our staff come into work at 7:30am each morning. I am sorry this was not made clear upon check in. Regarding the day my staff promised to have breakfast ready by 7:30am, once again sorry! My staff who goes to the market was held up as one shop hadnt opened yet. This is not an excuse, I am just letting you know what happened. A promise is a promise and my staff should have delivered. 3) Electricity: All over Lombok this is a problem. The electricity usually goes out once a month for a couple of hours. Unfortunately it was during your stay - Sorry! Once again thanks for your feedback Regards, Imaj Villas Management team

I must say that Iamj Villa is worth your money. We stay ther for 7 nights at the 3 rooms villa with private pool. We just want to relax for this trip to Lombok, so Imaj is a perfect place for us. We swim everyday in our private pool, big enough for our family of 4 and is very clean. The view is stunning and you can enjoy marvelous sunset view in a good day. In fact, the location is high enough for you to take in the breathtaking view of North Lombok.

The Imaj staffs are super friendly and very helpful too. You can count on them to arrange the unforgettable trips for you in Lombok and they will give you useful advices and recommendations.

Overall, we are very happy with our stay at Imaj Villa and my son is sad to leave. We definitely will come back to Lombok and Imaj.

Stayed at Imaj for 3 nights in Villa 1 overlooking the ocean with a beautiful sunset. When we arrived (4 adults and 2 children) and I first walked in the word that came to mind was “Breathtaking”. The views are amazing. The villa has their own drivers – crazing driving (worst than Bali) but really nice Guys. The villa had 3 good size rooms with all their own bathrooms. The room we had, had really bad lighting. We had to use a torch of a night, cause we couldn’t see anything. All bedrooms had their own TV and the beds were really comfortable. The lounge was really large with large comfortable couches. As the lounge didn’t have a TV, we found everyone was going into their own rooms to watch TV. It would have been nice if the lounge had a TV so everyone could have been together. Organised a day tour with reception to the Gili Islands. Lady at reception said no problem she will organise. When we got on the boat they advised that the tour was snorkelling and suba diving. Great I don’t do either! I wanted to go to two of the islands for the day as we requested to the receptionist. As it was so rough they said that we would be going to Gili T (the largest Island) and snorkel offshore. Thank god otherwise I would have had a very boring day sitting on a boat all day watching everyone else snorkel. Ended up spending approx 3 hours on Gilli T. After lunch we boarded the boat and headed offshore of Gili M. It was extremely rough on the water. Wish our reception had of advised that the tour she booked for us didn’t take us a shore it was just snorkeing and scuba diving. This tour cost us AUD$35 per person not including lunch, where I could have booked a water taxi for AUD$10. The villa does not have a kitchen or chef on site, so all the food is brought in from another location. Unfortunately the food is always delivered just warm or cold. With the villa being so remote it is to far to walk into town for dinner, so you are limited to eat from the menu. The food quality is just OK, on where near as good as to what I was expecting. The road up to the Villa isn’t as bad as what I was expecting from all the comments. Yes it is bumpy but the drivers all take it nice a slow. You cannot walk into town it is way too far. Taxi’s will not drive up the road, so again you are limited to use the Villa’s drivers. 70,000 for return trip to town. This is a wonderful place to come and un wind and enjoy a little R&R. All the cleaning staff and the staff that bring the food in are really really friendly. Really lovely and happy staff. They all need to be commended. The villa is approx 1.5hours drive away from the new airport. We booked our transfer pickup to go to the airport at 2pm, but on the morning of checkout we requested the driver to pick us up at 1.30pm. At 1.20 pm we all headed out of our Villa to the transport. No cars were waiting. When we asked reception, they said no we booked picked up for 2pm, we explained to the lady at reception that we had advised her, her self that morning that we needed earlier transfer at 1.30pm and she said no problems. All we got was “Oh Sorry and the driver would be here at 2pm”. Well at 2.15pm we asked where the driver was as we need to get to the airport 1.5hrs away to get a flight, and that we can not miss the flight. Again we got “Oh sorry, both our drivers are out” They only have 2 drivers!!! So we said the need to find another driver or organise at taxi at their expense. At 2.35pm finally one of the drivers arrived back, he had been to the airport to pick up guests that had just arrived. Why on earth wouldn’t they have taken us out earlier dropped us off at the airport and then picked up the new arrivals!!! Well the drive ti the airport was extremely frightening and very dangerous. What is normally a 1.5 hour trip took us 45mins. Would I ever stay here again, unfortunately no. We are all just happy to be alive after that drive. One final thing, my husband and I were renewing our vows at Imaj of the first night that were arrived. I had organised with Imaj to have a bouquet of flowers ready, which they confirmed in an email. Guess what they didn’t organise it. It was fine, but if I had of organised my full wedding and they didn’t arrived I would have been extremely upset.

One of the best holidays I have ever had. I loved the villa for its space, comfort and excellent service. Staffs there are very helpful and friendly. Location is secluded and peaceful and the ocean view is manificent! Lovely pool and the garden is well-cared for.

Overall, an outstanding villa. Would definitely come back.

We have just arrived back from 6 beautiful nights at Imaj. We purchased it as a deal online, always a bit jubious of those deals, but this one clearly didnt lie.

Some facts about Imaj.

It is one hour from Lombok airport, absolute chaos on the roads sooo many motorbikes, initially l was scared however you soon realise they are great courteous drivers. It took us 12 hours to finally arrive at our destination from Melbourne Australia. Although l had read previous reviews l couldnt quite comprehend the road up to the villa until we climbed it sliding all over the place as it was raining. The road is awful, full of rocks pot holes (huge), but we made it. We were met by Renie who kindly organised some dinner (10pm!) and then we were escorted to our beautiful villa, we were just in awe, it was huge (3 bedroom overlooking the beach) Too tired to do anything but eat and sleep.

Upon waking we were met by the most beautiful day, full sun and wow what a pool! In our opinion we had the best villa as we go the sea breeze as it can get quite humid in Lombok.

All the staff were so pleasant and respectul and very helpful, nothing was a problem.

Try who is the manager is just beautiful, always smiling and there fo assit you. She organised everything for us in regard to going out.

The tours they organise are professionally run, great operators. We did the snorkling at Gilli Islands and that was the highlight of the trip, and soooo cheap. We had our own driver and lucky for us our own boat and own guide, not sure if this always happens as we went out of peak season.

The food at the villa is lovely there is a huge selection to suit all taste buds. We ate at the villa all the time except for once, there really is no need to go outside the villa for meals, especailly when you know you have to encounter THAT ROAD! The wine is mostly Australian not much to choose from but very reasonably priced, around $30.00 a bottle.

Hussain was the main person we dealt with in regard to room service and he is just beautiful, non imposing and pleasant in for a chat.

The villa itself is much nicer than you see on the website, there is a bar fridged (stocked daily) rooms cleaned daily, fresh towells, toiletries should you need them are provided. I had read on someones site there were cockraoches and the pool was dirty, well the pool was beautiful it is cleaned daily so are the grounds around your villa, we had no cockroaches but we had a few lizards and a cat appeared everymorning in our villa, this didnt bother us as we have a cat. The bedrooms are huge and so are the ensuites.

The negatives (if l had to find any)

The road, be prepared for that one.
The long drive from the airport, factor in extra time when leaving due to heavy traffic.
The wine, mmm it is always warm so if you like it cold ask for it early and put in your fridge, in humid conditons warm wine dosnt work.
The tours they operate are fantastic however in the room they dont really give you enough description, ie the snorkling tour they dont really explain what a wonder place you are going to, if only they were more descriptive we probably would have done more tours.
The light in the bedroom is so dim you can hardly find anything.

Radiwan organised all of our transfers and then even took us shopping the day we left in Kuta, we went to the big department store l think it is called Central, this is a must it is sooo cheap.

Anyway hope that gives some of you out there considering staying in paradise an insight, we had a wonderful time, and oh l fogot the massages are beautiful and very cheap, around $30.00 for an hour, they are a must whilst you are there.

We were very lucky to have such beautfiul weather at that time of year.

Many thanks to Try and all her staff, we hope to come back one day and stay part of the time there and the rest in Gilli Islands.

Personally l wouldnt stay down the bottom of the mountain as it is way to hot.
