Beautifully restored buildings with really lovely decor throughout in a beautiful little village. Dinner was a triumph and the hosts (Chris and Charles) really could not have been more welcoming or enjoyable company. We only stayed for one night, but would happily stay longer and will definitely come back and explore the area more.

This delightful manoir was the perfect place to stay. The setting was lovely, with pretty views and on the edge of an interesting village. It was quiet and peaceful. The house has been stylishly renovated to provide modern facilities in a historic building that has character. The bedroom was large with a very comfortable bed and good shower room. All was spotlessly clean. Our host, Chris, was so welcoming. She had that perfect mix of friendliness and yet gave her guests privacy. The delicious breakfast was included and we partook of the evening meals that are offered for a small extra charge and must be booked ahead. The food was lovely and the conversation made for wonderfully pleasant evenings. What a perfect way to begin a holiday in France!

Having stayed in a number of B&Bs I can honestly say that Chris and Charles are THE most caring and considerate of hosts. The manoir was designed beautifully but still felt warm and cosy. We loved the lighting so much we had to visit the shop on the way home! Our holiday and comfort was put first throughout the break. Suggestions for visits to the local area were spot on. The evening meals were superb and great fun.

The bed was comfy and the linen top notch, the night so quiet all you could hear was the Barn Owl.

Extremely recommended, we will be back

We experienced a wonderfully warm welcome at Le Manoir and enjoyed three excellent nights there.
Our bedroom was enormous, beautifully decorated and well equipped including a Nespresso machine for excellent coffee to start the day. Our hosts Chris and Charles entertained us each evening with delicious, varied and plentiful food and wines.
We very much look forward to returning.

Myself and my new husband stopped here for a one night stay before getting married in loire valley. This B&B is so pretty and spacious, surrounded with beautiful scenery and silence. The couple that run it, Chris and Charles, made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. They create a very friendly atmosphere, and were extremely helpful to myself and husband to be.We highly recommend a stay here to relax and be in love with the surroundings.

From the moment we arrived we felt at home with a very warm welcome from Charles and Chris and their two friendly dogs. The accommodation is amazing. Our room gave the ambiance of a chateau, spacious, wonderfully furnished in style with an adjoining bedroom giving even more space and an ensuite with powerful shower heads situated in the old chapel of the property. We love history an being able to read about the origins of the house, families and renovation programme added an absorbing dimension. Charles also gave us his time in walking us through the old stable barns and ancient bakery whilst sharing his plans for future projects. He and Chris also advised us local walks and places to visit which enabled us to maximise our time in the area. Breakfast and dinner at the manor were very social events meeting other guests and local acquaintances and being made to feel very much part of the local scene. The menu on each night was delicious, the wine and conversation flowed and we highly recommend Le manor as the perfect place to stay.

We stayed just one night on our way to il de Re. We had such a lovely time.
The place is just stunning, beautifully decorated, very spacious, Charles and Chris were so welcoming, friendly and even surprised us with a bottle of champagne when we came down for dinner, as it was our first night in France on our honeymoon. The meal that Charles and Chris made for us was just delicious and all locally sourced. We enjoyed a lovely evening with our hosts and will definitely be back. We can’t recommend Le Manoir de la Vieille Douve highly enough.

I live in SW France, enjoy the culture, I love cooking and entertaining. This establishment had been recommended to me. From the point of arrival at this magnificent and historic Manoir, the warmth of the welcome set the benchmark for the level of service to follow, which was generally excellent. Breakfast was included, with dinner available for a small extra charge. The hosts are wonderful chefs, and engaging conversationists. The en-suite room was large, wonderfully decorated and furnished, with a beautiful, yet practical bathroom. This proved to be an ideal base from which to investigate the Loire valley, and local towns. I loved best the dinner time in the evening, the cuisine, and the friendly conversation. I least liked the presence of the clock, as it reminded me constantly that my time there was coming to an end. certainly the best accommodation and service I have experienced anywhere in Europe, and is within the top 10 worldwide. I will be return!
