The staff let the place down badly. We weren’t told what time to check out or where breakfast was served. Consequently, we spent 10 minutes standing in the bar/ restaurant bit trying to get the staff’s attention (who could clearly see us through the glass door but were too busy having a rowdy conversation). A male member of staff eventually walked through. We asked for some service. He went into the kitchen and some of the staff came out, all three of whom walked straight past us. A fourth finally came out and when we asked if someone could serve us, she and another gentlemen who came out were very rude. They said we were in the wrong place for breakfast and shouldn’t have been standing there at all as we ought to have been told yesterday where the breakfast room Was. Evidently we hadn’t, but either way, we both left quite upset at how we were spoken to. Customers shouldn’t feel like they are interrupting the conversations of staff (especially in difficult times like this where many (polite) people I’m sure would be glad of their jobs), nor be spoken to rudely. We are the very reason for their employment. Very disappointing!!! My partner and I were quite upset at their attitude. They need lessons in courtesy and to not be standing around talking instead of doing their job making customers feel bad for expecting some service. And then when challenged for ignoring us, they should’ve apologised and shown us to our table, not dug their heels in further. Most other places I’ve stayed at in the Lakes have been family-run and they cannot do enough for you. The Hideaway for example. I wouldn’t stay here again for that reason. The staff were mostly quite young and very immature. You got the impression they didn’t want to be there or do any work of any description. …
Stayed here for 4 nights from 18th-22nd December, Stayed in room 8, Very nice clean room, great bed and fantastic shower, The food was lovely, Great breakfast choices, Ate in the pub two nights out of 4, food was excellent and so was the beer, Staff very polite and couldn’t do enough for you. Really enjoyed our stay and will return definitely. literally 5 minutes from Windermere and Bowness absolutely ideal.
Nice room. Lovely pub with real log fires and a great selection of cask ales. All the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Excellent lunch and evening meal. Nice walks nearby. Will definitely go back again.
We've been visiting the Lake District every October for half term break for the past 10 years and we always end up eating at the Watermill once or twice during the week and there's been no exception this year having decided to eat there on Monday evening. The food as usual is great quality, ample portions and priced just right. Obviously the main attraction is the beer which we bought a couple of boxes containing 3 bottles of my favourite tipple as gifts for Christmas. Hope to return tonight as it's our tradition to eat at the Watermill Inn on our last night.
Booked here last minute as we were staying in the centre of Windermemere and decided to head out a day earlier so this was perfect. After checking in late afternoon we spent a few hours in the bar for drinks and then dinner. I have to stress how good the food was. We had the special of the day which was lamb hotpot and then the steak and ale pie. Both were gorgeous and really generous, hearty portions. We would most definately return for food when we are next in the area. I do wish I could leave a better rated review but unfortunately the room didnt live up to what it should have been. We didn't go expecting to be blown away we knew it would be basic but unfortunately some of the basics were not even there. As soon as we entered the room there was a wet dog smell, we know the inn welcomes dogs but it was clear the carpet needed cleaning. The walls are super thin and you can hear every little movement from others staying in adjacent rooms and people downstairs in the bar. The biggest gripe was the bed. It was awful. It was rock hard which meant we had the worst nights sleep and we didn't dare move all night because of the dreadful noise it made. We paid £100 to stay here for one night and unfortunately that is massively overpriced for what is offered. Lovely place to eat and drink and staff are great which is the reason for my average rating but really sorry to say we would never stay here again and it would have scored much lower if it wasn't for the food.…
