Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a very good pub, and Brian would undoubtedly have been proud of the progress made by Alison and the lads. However, the practice of reserving tables currently in place tends to create a sense of exclusion for us and presumably others, as we're often informed about certain tables being unavailable due to reservations. On a recent occasion, despite having booked and paid a deposit for a table, we were reassigned to a different spot upon arrival and later noticed that our original table for four remained vacant even after our stay of an hour and a half. It's clear that booking is essential for accommodating larger groups, but the traditional ease of just dropping in for the best pie and pint in the area appears to be under threat. In my view, this reservation policy diminishes the allure of what is, one of the finest pubs in the area. Terry Fisher

Excellent food. Had lunch on the Friday - was delicious. So then booked the Christmas menu for Sunday with friends. Every meal and course was delicious. The service was faultless. Highly recommended.

We checked your web site and it said you don’t take bookings for tables only special occasions. Thanks for that! We met my sister who had travelled an hour and us 45mins at 6.30 to get a table early as couldn’t book it and a lot of tables had reserved on so I asked behind the bar and said sorry fully booked!! Please change your website…..so annoying but you did us a huge favour because we went to the Strickland arms and it was excellent. Three of us had fish and chips which were lovely and tasty and one had homemade chicken and leek pie.

Stayed here last night would’ve stayed two nights but they were full. Rooms lovely clean and comfy. The dogs were made very welcome getting little treats of the bar staff for being good. Food was gorgeous huge portions we had the beef pie and water mill chicken and full Cumbrian brekkies plenty of choice on all the menus. The husband whose only carling drinker loved their beers they brewed even bought a case to bring home with him. Plenty of private parking and staff were lovely and friendly. Will definitely returning in the the spring

I enjoyed staying at the Watermill mostly because it was close to where I wanted to be. Room comfortable and clean and I love that the hotel is pet friendly. UK is much better at accommodating pets than Australia. Just about everywhere I’ve been in England and Scotland, pets are welcome.
