Spent a night here just for a little relaxing at the beach. Basic but some nice features. Walking distance to bay and town. Shower available after checkout for cleanup to spend a little extra time at the beach. There seem to have been some maintenance upgrades since my last stay. My room had new ceiling and bedside lamps, but carpet could have used at least some spot cleaning and mattress and pillows weren’t super comfortable. Pool shower was upgraded.

Let me start by saying we had just come from the Bellmoor in Rehoboth, so perhaps I was expecting too much. As we entered the lobby, there were random floral arrangements (?) sitting on tables. I didn’t quite understand what that was all about. The carpeting was worn, the paint on the walls was not very pretty, and there was definitely an odor of some sort that I can’t describe…kind of a damp/musty/nursing home combo. The sheets on the bed were not good quality, nor were the towels in the bathroom. Pillows were flat as pancakes. This furniture was old and dated, in fact; that was the vibe of the entire place. I travel a lot and have stayed in multiple hotels in Lewes and the surrounding area, and I must say the Beacon as the worst. If the prices would reflect that of a budget motel, maybe I could let some of this slide, but the pre-season rate was more than $450 for two nights. Will not return.

The Inn has a homey feeling unparalleled in my experience. The public rooms are large. comfy and relaxing. The pool and deck are first rate. The rooms are well appointed with small terraces. The location is great with three restaurants a stones throw away, as is a grocery store. And it's less than a five minute walk to all the tourist shops and restaurants in Lewes plus a 12 minute one to the beach. And the staff is very pleasant.

We normally visit Lewes beach every year which started after my daughter turned one. We always stay at Beacon Inn for its family like atmosphere and it is in walking distance to the beach. This time I brought a friend with me instead of coming with my daughter’s grandmother. Everything was going well until it was time to pack and leave from room 228 where I discovered my daughter’s portable DVD player was stolen from the second drawer. Be aware although many smile in your face, your are amongst thieves…….

This year’s stay was better than last, but we all still felt some things could use attention. The exhaust fan in our bathroom was hanging precariously and dusty and the desk had a huge chunk out of the marble top. Still got blasts of hot and cold water in the shower. The vibe is starting to move more from vintage to tired, and having realized we can rent a small condo for a week for just a bit more than a few nights at the hotel we are examining other options. When we arrived there was some confusion finding a room for us despite reservation. Just not the same place we have enjoyed for so long.

Just back from two nights, went with my daughter and three young children. We have stayed here before and as with each previous stay we couldn't have been more pleased. The desk staff is very warm and friendly and the cleaning and supply staff are responsive and could not be nicer. We walked to the town in the mornings for breakfast and the amazing playground. While the baby napped I took the other two to the hotel pool- Then we walked to the beach! For dinner we went to the restaurant next door (desk fellow recommended) which was great, then back for a 'before- bed- swim!' The lobby has a few toys for kids, a giant chalk board AND an incredible fish tank. This is not a fancy place, but perfect for active families, especially those that don't want to get in the car constantly.

We have been staying here for nearly 20 years, and we still love the location and the atmosphere, but this year is was pretty clear it is time for some maintenance upgrades. The key for our room barely worked, our shower varied between freezing and scalding, the refrigerator froze our food, and our room wasn’t cleaned. Not even clean towels and trash emptied. I guess at a budget price I would overlook more, but the rates have gone up and I don’t really consider these economy rates anymore.

Response from Beacon Inn, Marketing at The Beacon Inn
Responded 26 Aug 2021
Hi Denise, We apologize about the issues with your stay. We hope that you addressed them immediately with the front desk, to me, Gene, or Mark, as we would have done everything in our power to correct them promptly Our housekeepers attend to all rooms unless there is a "Do Not Disturb", and I apologize again that your room was not serviced to your needs. If there is ever an issue with the traditional lock and key, that is a maintenance issue/concern we take care of immediately. We have extra refrigerators on hand, as the latest models do not hold up like they used to unfortunately. We have a plethora of towels, and would have gladly serviced your room the moment you returned and it had not been attended to. We are still in peak season, so our rates are high this time of year, they go down in September, October, and again in November. We appreciate your business of nearly 20 years, and hope in the future that you ask to speak to me if there is ever a concern with your stay/room. Our family greatly appreciates your loyalty, and it saddens me that you did not enjoy your stay. Please feel free to call me to discuss, since this is the first I am hearing about the issues with your room with this review. I hope you have a great rest of your summer, and stay safe. Sincerely, Maggie, Manager/Owner

This was my first time staying at a motel so I was a bit worried and uncertain of what I would find, but it was a great experience overall. We stayed here overnight after going to Rehoboth Beach and woke up for the sunrise at Lewes Beach. The room was very cute - the double room was very large with a couch and 2 large beds, a large wall-mounted flat screen TV, and lots of towels. We really appreciated having enough towels to bring to the beach and shower at night. The only complaints I have (which are minor) are that the beds could be more comfortable, the blanket had some threads coming apart, the shower curtain can be cleaned better and there was a spider in the room, which I saw in the morning. There was also no water at the vending machine. There was a cute blackboard in the lobby and fish tank. There was also a ping pong table on the second floor.

My husband and I stayed here for one night over our anniversary. While some have claimed to find the decor outdated, we found it to be charming and vintage evoking beachside nostalgia. The staff was very warm and welcoming. This is one of very few accommodations in which we have stayed which have provided brightly colored linens and towels providing a more homely feeling while staying. The location is perfect and is within walking distance to the beach, shopping and restaurants. We would definitely stay at the Beacon again!
