Quilotao has limited hotels and hostels. Runa Wasi is pretty basic but it serves its purpose. It is only a couple hundred meters from the start of the Quilotoa loop and the Quilotoa volcano lagoon. The service was excellent. The hosts took really good care of us, lighting a fire in our room (it's cool and rainy there), giving advice, etc. The rooms could do with some touches, like hooks to hang your wet clothes or a common area for visiting. The meals were good and it was clean.

A strange little hotel. We pulled into the large empty car park, was it even open? Yes, a warm greeting and shown to our room. A small room, the double bed tight against one wall but perfectly clean. Dinner was included, a surprisingly nice soup starter then chicken fillet, or pork, with rice and salad and a hot very tasty drink. Early evening more travellers arrived for good conversations, later a large group of walkers, the hotel was actually full. With temperatures outside -1, -2 the wood burning stove in our room had been lit and had real-ly warmed the room. With a few of the lovely Ecuadorian blankets we had a warm night. Breakfast was at 07.30 for everyone. That’ll be busy we thought, but luckily the large group of walkers had left early Breakfast was fruit plate, breads, eggs cooked to choice, fried plantain with cheese, fruit juice and tea or coffee all well presented.

We stayed here for one night as a couple in September 2021 after hiking Quilotoa Lake. Although the owner and staff members do not speak English, and we only spoke very limited, poor Spanish, they showed us great hospitality, and were pleasant and accommodating. In terms of price, Runa Wasi is one of the more affordable ones in the area. We paid approximately $40 USD for a room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. Even as a Canadian, I have to say, it does get VERY cold at night. There is an old fashioned fireplace in the room, that the owner and staff members came and helped start for us, when we needed it. I believe there were at least 4-5 blankets/comforters for the bed, also as another means to keep warm. The shower was unfortunately cold. The hot water only stayed on for about a minute or two before it was cold again. I was a bit disappointed by this as I was looking forward to a hot shower at the end of our hike. Dinner and breakfast is included in the price. The meals were good, and it was your standard Ecuadorian food (meat, rice, salad for dinner / eggs, bread, fresh fruit, fruit juice and coffee for breakfast). However, the portions were quite small. WiFi is fast and reliable in all parts of the lodge. Overall, Runa Wasi is a charming lodge for great value. I would recommend this lodge if you are looking for budget-friendly options.

Rooms are spartan and packed with beds, but that's true for everywhere in Ecuador as they all like to pack their rooms to the brim with beds. I was lucky enough to have hot water for about 1 minute then it turned to freezing. I had to wait another 10 minutes for some more hot water. So keep that in mind. Loud (French, like usual) neighbors in a wooden house doesn't really make for comfort. Otherwise it's a remote location and it's a decent room for a very low cost if you can snag it under $20. There are other similar places nearby for a similar setting and cost so you're not limited to this one. The location is near the entry booth so a slight 5-7 minute walk from the lake. Although when I was here they closed the lake shore path like the hour I arrived, due to COVID-19.

After all the negative reviews I read, I was a bit hesitant about my stay here. I need not be. I was greeted warmly upon arrival and shown to my room, which was a cozy basic room. The place was spotlessly clean. I didn't opt for the meals because of the negative reviews but I saw what the others ate and think it was great value of well prepared local food. I would opt for the meals if I return. In the evening, the fire was started in the stove in the room, making it nice and cozy. It stayed warm throughout the night. There were tons of blankets in case it wasn't warm enough. The wood used is very fast burning though, so the fire was essentially out in about 15 minutes. For those who reviewed badly, remember this is a remote location without all the trimmings of life in a first world big city--be thankful for a warm cozy room when it is sleeting outside.

Runa Wasi was the perfect rest stop for the night after hiking the Quilotoa loop. There are warm fireplaces in each room and they have a great community room for eating, enjoying tea/coffee, reading, writing, etc. The beds are comfortable and although they did not have warm showers, they heated water for us in a basin to wash with which was very nice. Thanks for a great stay!

The rooms are very cold (it is Quilatoa, after all!) and the water in the shower was freezing, but the staff was friendly and did their very best to ensure we were comfortable, from making us a fire multiple times in our room to bringing us a giant bucket of hot water to bathe with. They even accommodated my vegan diet! An excellent place to stay while hiking around the area.

Not many options in this town. Room and bed were fine. Quite cold room. There is a fireplace unit and they provide wood but it is still a cold night (we were there in July). The people do not speak English but they are very nice and they try very hard. We had warm water once we asked them to fix it (which they promptly did). You will want to do the lake and move on. Dinner and breakfast were included. It was basic and fine - we are not foodies.

We stayed here for 1 night and that was 1 night too many, the rooms and food are very basic but the main problem was the almost complete lack if running water and certainly the absence of any hot water. The lagoon/lake is lovely but you might be better to stay farther away as most of the accommodation seemed similarly basic.

I absolutely loved staying at Runa Wasi Lodge during my two night stay in Quilotoa with two girlfriends. Not only is it a convenient 2 min walk to Quilotoa Crater, but the rooms have a wood stove to add to the charm of the place and best of all, the food was fantastic. You can tell the cooks really care about what they serve guests, and they even cater to vegetarians. They even have wi-fi, which I was surprised about given the remote mountain location, even though it was spotty. The place was clean and hosts were very helpful. I definitely recommend staying here if planning on hiking Quilotoa or any nearby attraction like the canyon.
