Visited with friends to celebrate a birthday. Presented with an espresso sized cup of lovely tomato soup while waiting for afternoon tea to be prepared. The finger sandwiches were as fresh as fresh, which I have found unusual, as at other venues the sandwiches have obviously been prepared in advance and are a bit dry round the edges. The staff had gone to great lengths to make our visit safe from coronavirus, having additional sanitisers available. A lovely afternoon.

Stayed for one night in March 2022 while on business. On check in, I found the receptionist to be very unfriendly, and did not feel warmly welcomed. The room was very good, and had a huge shower facility with twin fixed and handheld heads which had good pressure and was warm enough for a good soaking.

The hotel signage is not good, and it was difficult to find the bar and restaurant, but once discovered they were good, and a very good range of premium draught beers were available.

Breakfast was buffet style and adequate, if unspectacular.

Overall a nice hotel, although some colleagues did comment that it felt a little like a high end detoxification clinic!

It is a difficult review to leave in view of coronavirus and understand that alot of changes had to be made to make this a safe environment for staff and customers. However, we felt really uncomfortable staying here. More information should have been provided by the Reception staff on check in instead of us constantly having to go and ask about everything
The room was an executive double, at the front of the hotel looking onto the carpark and a well used road. I could hear the road noise until late and then starting up again early morning. The bed wasn't that comfortable and I found it difficult to get settled, therefore not much sleep. There was a split in the quilt cover which had been washed, starched and ironed so probably has been there a while. This should have been checked by house keeping.
When we asked where the bar was located we were told that the bar did not open until 6 pm and was situated in the restaurant where the smell of food was strong. Due to not many staying at the hotel there was no atmosphere and we felt a little uncomfortable.
We ordered food from the All Day menu, there was no table to sit at to eat and ended up leaning over a very small table in a corridor, which was a better option than sitting in the reception area looking out over a car park and road. We did not enjoy having to eat that way and wished we had taken the food back to our room. We found the food very basic and overcooked.
Unfortunately not all amenities were open and we would probably had a better experience when the Hotel was up and running. I am trying to think of positive comments to make but sadly cannot. We could not wait to check out.
Because of our above comments we would not stay here again. We were disappointed and for us did not feel it was value for money.

We thought we would treat ourselves to a "luxary" afternoon tea, costing £34. So we arrived at Wrightington Hotel and Spa , neither myself or my husband had been to this location before. We checked in for our afternoon tea and was ask to take a seat in the corridor next to the reception and a member of staff will sort our afternoon tea. So we sat and waited and was soon asked if we would like a tea or coffee, which we did. The corridor was directly opposite the front door entering the hotel next to reception. There was a glass panel separating reception to this corridor. There was a small coffee table with 3 chairs and food all over the floor. So we thought we was being seated there before being moved to an appropriate place to eat. We presumed it was the corridor to the spa/pool as people walked past us with their swimming costumes on and towels. Several minutes later our afternoon tea arrived and was placed onto the small coffee table in the corridor. We questioned if this was the location we was eating our food and we was told yes. I was absolutely gutted. We was not sat at a table, there was food on the floor and a hop skip and a jump away from being sat behind the reception desk. There was no view except the toilets and facing the other way was reception. The hotel itself is surrounded by beautiful waters and fields, which would have been nice to see. We were given a pot of cold airoplane coffee (cheap and nasty) and a 3 tiered afternoon tea. All the food was dense, heavy and small. Although, the ham sandwich was nice and the cherry cube. On the website they stated that meringues where included (which was the appeal) -there was none. The cups where dirty as though they had not been washed and had several rings around them. Tbh we was both really disappointed, really really not worth the money, especially when you are dumped in a corridor. Won't be going back and don't recommend this service. We did voice our concerns.

Was booked into a double club room for one night after attending a wedding. The wedding was beautiful and well organised. Hotel room and facilities were great however the issues started when we went to bed at the end of the night at 1am and discovered the mattress was soaking wet! We called reception to complain and we were moved to another room just to use the bed. This was supposed to be an upgrade but I felt it was a down grade as the bedroom and bathroom were in need of refurbishment and the facilities in the bathroom were shabby with a shower over a bath. We went back to our original room in the morning to use the shower as the bathroom there was much smarter with a separate shower cubicle. We checked out and did not complain any further however on arriving home I discovered I had left an item of clothing in the original room and when I contacted the hotel they said they would check with housekeeping and get back to me. I had to chase this up on multiple occasions as no one was returning my calls. The receptionist was very rude and unapologetic when I explained about us having to move rooms, I was also told that the item of clothing had not been handed in. I asked to speak to the manager and was told they were busy and would call me back. I am still waiting for a return call !!

This was our first hotel stay since the virus closed everywhere. We were very impressed with the attention to detail this hotel has put in place in light of the COVID19 Pandemic. Cleanliness and policies all in place to ensure staff and guests all feel safe. All staff were friendly and attentive too, but I must also say a massive thank you to one member of staff who was exceptional ~ David Booth, Restaurant Manager. He made our stay very special, remembering details that took the experience up to a completely different level. Thank you.

I booked two rooms for a family wedding - one for myself and my partner, and one for my sons.
At round 11pm, after a lovely evening reuniting with family, the manager found me in the bar area and insisted my sons would have to move rooms the next morning. Apparently another family with younger children needed an interconnecting room, and while I understood their predicament, the manager somehow made it seem as this was my fault.
When I pointed out that it absolutely wasn't, and that he should a) apologise for the inconvenience and b) ask that my son's change rooms rather than ordering them to do so, he proceeded to treat me like a fool.
First, he made it seem as if he was doing me a huge favour by waiving the £50 charge for changing rooms (I asked why I should pay when the mistake was the hotel's but he didn't have an answer) and secondly, he offered to 'throw breakfast in'. I pointed out that breakfast was already included in my room rate.
It was humiliating to be treated in this way, especially in front of my family, who could only look on in dismay. I won't say it ruined a happy event but it certainly tarnished it. Moreover, it was completely unnecessary. If the manager had approached me privately and explained the situation I would happily have complied with his request. As it was, he insulted my intelligence in front of other guests, and while I was compensated on check-out, the whole situation should have been approached with professionalism and respect.
It is also worth noting that toiletries were not available in the room, but had to be requested at Reception. Rooms weren't cleaned or towels replaced, and the remnants of my early morning cup of tea was still sitting there that night.
In the interests of balance I should point out that many of the staff were very helpful and friendly, but this hotel is certainly not delivering on it's 4-stars right now.

Wrightington Hotel and health spa is an absolutely first class place to stay, located very near to Wigan. Rooms are spotlessly clean and the food is great. I met a pal there and we had two nights B&B and took advantage of the 18m swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi which are included in the price of rooms. There is also a vast gym covering all imaginable exercises,we just looked and thought that's a bit too much for us as we're in our seventies!

Well, the place may be plush, well furnished and maintained, but it's not all it's cracked up to be.
My daughter paid £360 for the 2 of us to go for Spa treatment and afternoon tea.
Whilst I can only praise the 2 girls, Lauren and Jen for the treatment we were given in the Spa. Full body massage, facial and pedicure. The facilities left a lot to be desired. The jacuzzi and sauna weren't working, which left us only the pool to use, that was nothing special. The changing rooms and shower area were smelly, not very clean and in need of some TLC, when you consider the prices they charge. The shower gel was cheap, with no smell and certainly no lather or bubbles. Which leads me to the afternoon tea. I would at least have expected a glass of prosecco with our 4 very small, quite boring sandwiches. The deserts however were nice, but a little over the top. Tea, coffee or soft drinks. Anything else you had to pay extra!!!
The place is uninviting, no aromas of fresh flowers or even air freshners, as there weren't any.
As it was a special treat from my daughter for my special birthday. I felt disappointed for her.
£360 not a total rip off, but we felt mugged, well and truly.

What a wonderful setting for a special family wedding.
All the staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Sean and the team were there to oversee all the arrangements, give advice and organised everything with finesse and made sure things went smoothly.
We had canopies with fizz after the ceremony which were very tasty. The carvery was absolutely delicious and well organised. The puddings were scrumptious.
The wedding ceremony room looked lovely with our decorations and the patio doors at the back of the room into the garden were perfect for us to take photos and we could throw our confetti with lovely view of the fields behind.
We enjoyed staying in the hotel. The rooms were clean and had what we needed and beds were comfortable.
Breakfast had a nice selection of hot and cold foods. The cooked breakfast was good quality and we tucked into sausage, egg, hash browns, bacon, egg, black pudding and beans.
We had a lovely relax in the pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna after breakfast which finished off our stay beautifully.
Thank you to Sean and the team.
