Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception here at the begining of April. What a fantastic hotel/wedding venue it is! From start to finish the day went so smoothly and everything was just perfect. The wedding breakfast food was exceptional and all of our guests commented on this! I cannot thank the staff enough, for such great organisation of the day. The rooms were set up so beautifully and the hotel grounds are well kept, neat and tidy. The hotel rooms were immaculate, spacious and very well presented. The breakfast included was lovely offering a variety of hot/cold foods. All the way through our wedding journey members of staff were on hand to answer any questions/queries and were very happy to help! Overall this venue is amazing and I would highly reccomend.

Wrightington hotel recently managed 2 key events for our family, once being a baby shower and sadly the funeral reception for our lovely mum. Both were under difficult circumstances, however the biggest thanks is to the team who are just wonderful. They’re accommodating and really instilled the trust that they had everything in hand. They are thorough and every request we had, was catered for. Nothing is too much trouble. The food on both days is exceptional, fresh and more importantly home made. Special thanks to Megan, Sean and Lisa, and all the waiting and kitchen staff. What a fantastic team of people. I am highly recommending holding events at this venue, you will not be disappointed. The hotel is a beautiful location, clean with modern rooms. The real shame is that the floors and walls are paper thin. As I type this it’s midnight and I still can’t get to sleep for listening to a conversation going on in the room above me. Really poor soundproofing and you’d think a quality hotel would have addressed this basic need. It’s honestly better in a premier inn hub than this hotel.

For the cost, just average. Rooms are just ok, the breakfast was not great. Far to go to room with stairs up and down. Internet worked well. Drape covered heater by window - but heat was still ok. Busy the day I was there with many conference attendees.

Always a warm welcome, good food and very comfortable bedrooms. Leisure facilities are great, and pool is very decent with beauty salon available to book ahead. Would recommend you book dinner for restaurant as often very popular, breakfast also very good choices.

A well appointed hotel with friendly helpful staff. We had a spacious clean room ( platinum room) the bathroom was also a great size and there was plenty of hot water. We enjoyed an unplanned afternoon cream tea served by the delightful Debbie. In the evening the meal was exceptional ( chicken wings were the best I’ve ever had) so credit to the chef but also a big shout out to the service staff as well who were friendly and helpful Its also very convenient if you need to get to the train station ( 5 mins) We certainly want to come back

The hotel is lovely, rooms spacious tastefully decorated, toiletries and tea/coffee facilities all in room. Staff friendly, helpful always a warm welcome and a smile. Spa and health club facilities fabulous, service from ladies doing treatments was second to none. Now I will do a bigger review but just have to say food was outstanding, two nights I stayed so evening meals and breakfast (two different venues within the hotel both excellent) service was fantastic but was outshone by the evening menu. Open to the public as well as hotel guests I can’t recommend enough. Whole experience has been exceptional start to finish.

We spent New Years Eve and have to say, it was a brilliant way to bring in 2024. Our rooms were lovely. They were clean, and beautifully presented. When we arrived at the Blazers Suite for our Carvery Dinner, the staff had prepared a table really close by, as I had mentioned when booking that a member of my party was a bit unsteady on her feet. The receptionist said there would be somebody ready to help her to carry her hot meal, and there was a lovely member of staff at the back of the queue, who was more than happy to assist with choosing and carrying the plate to the table. The food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the salmon and prawn starter, wrapped in the lightest pastry. The DJ was good, and the dance floor was packed all night. At midnight there was a rousing chorus of Auld Lang Syne. Only one little quibble, to knock a star off. I checked breakfast and check out times with the receptionist when we checked in. I had previously rang to check this information and was told breakfast 8-10am and check out 10.30am. I thought it worth another ask, as in previous hotels these were later, but the times were confirmed as above. I was surprised, therefore, to overhear the same receptionist mentioning a late check out to another guest as we were checking out. I queried this, and she confirmed both breakfast and check out were later, it being New Years Day. She said she had not been told about the change early enough, and apologised. After such an enjoyable evening, and a lovely breakfast, I was not in the mood to complain. However, the added half hour for breakfast and checkout would have meant we could spend a bit more time with my family, who had travelled from the Wirral to celebrate with us.

The fire alarm sirens went off in our room twice in the middle of the night. Absolutely startling, leaving us anxious all night and with no sleep at all. Whilst this was a technical fault that couldnt be helped, i found their 20pc 'discount' off accomodation cost insulting. I was so out of sorts in the morning i could not eat the cooked breakfast but they insisted i must still pay for it (£15). I raised the issue with management but they said they couldnt do any more. Also be aware the spa is open to general public and although we were residents of the hotel we could not use the steam room ir sauna as they were full to capacity. After the gesture of goodwill!!! (£19) was deducted we paid a shocking £111.80 for the worst nights sleep, no access to the spa and a cooked breakfast i couldnt eat because i felt so unwell. We will not be using the Wrightington again, despite having family in the area. Shocking recognition of poor delivery of service. Shame on you!

I was recently a wedding guest at the hotel and wanted to share the experience. There were many beautiful moments throughout the day however few things that let the day down. Firstly it was far too hot in the ceremony room it was very uncomfortable for many of the guests and then throughout the night no ventilation we had to go through the hotel to a smoking area for a little fresh air. Secondly when I asked if I could have both of the dishes at the evening buffet, I was told it was one option but other guests were allowed both, there was no side salad or bread available as they had ran out when serving my food. So I had to go back to my table wait and then rejoin the queue when they had refilled it. Thirdly the DJ, unfortunately was not the best, he refused to play any songs that were requested, the songs he did play were hit and miss, some that tragic the dance floor was empty. There was broken glass on the dance floor, after telling numerous staff and the dj nothing was done about it. The bar also closed earlier than expected, it felt as if the staff wanted us out. The bride and groom on the way out realised they had no key, there was nobody on reception to ask, they asked a member of staff walking by and the staff member responded in shock "you did not check in today" as if they were supposed to abandon the wedding to check in. As a well established wedding venue you would expect non of this to be an issue on someone's big day.
