Fantastic old style hostel. In beautiful location near a wonderful surf beach with foot access (no road access.) Beautiful walks and beside a very picturesque estuary great for kayaking. Lovely interaction with othe guests from NZ and overseas

Stunning location for a hostel on one of the last undeveloped stretches of the Cormandel. You have a beautiful beach just a couple of meters away, phenomenal views of the bay right from the property and in the garden there is a herb garden, lemon and orange trees and you can help yourself. The staff is very friendly and there...

Friendly environment but found our room number 5 to be quite unhygienic with spiders everywhere and dirty marks on the pillow cases and sheets... Thanks but no thanks, we drove home that night instead!

We loved this tranquil hideaway, with great views over the sea and the amazing sunsets. The walk along the unspoilt sandy beach in the evening is awesome with only the sound of the crashing waves. If you fancy a change, the walk into the woodland behind the hostel is also great if you fancy a bit of a challenge. The chalets...

Idyllic...what more can I say. Such a beautiful location, so tranquil...perfection... Kayaks were available to borrow, local walks were highlighted, the beach is the most perfect, tranquil beach that I have seen...and the owners aim was to make it as pleasant as possible for their guests...remembering that it is a YH, not a hotel...thank goodness...

This YHA Is a wee little gem, in the most stunning of locations. Thank you to Theresa and Mark for their most warm welcome. The hostel has a very real air of a relaxed environment and is ran by a couple who are passionate about what they do.

What a find! Such a beautiful spot, lovely hosts, and good size dorms. The location is a little out in the middle of nowhere, which is what we wanted but would be hard to access without a car. Bathrooms where immaculate, as where the dorms. Though there were not enough plug points in the room (2 between 6 people).

This is a very special place. For one, two or a family that enjoy this beautiful part of NZ. There are camping sites and also clean, wonderful dorm options as well as modern separate accommodation. The communal showers/toilets are exceptionally clean. It is a quiet peaceful place, with native birds and an incredible calm atmosphere. A must for those who want...

Stunning YHA property in the middle of the bush and also by the beach. This is an ideal place for single, couple or family travelers looking for a quiet place to enjoy nature off the beaten track. The rooms are all lovely, well equipped and the kitchen is well stocked. Very friendly hosts, ample parking and kayaks available for use....

We've made several visits to the Opoutere YHA over the years. It is in a magical spot with a great view of the harbour and a short (30 minute) walk through a pine forest to a long, untouched beach. This is a great place to bring families as there is a fair amount of space to run around in and...
