We would have at least 12 people to be in our group. We would stay at the Dover every time. The place very clean!! They did amazing decoration for the place. It was beautiful. They didn't renovate the kitchen tho. But I'm sure they will. We had some people sleeping in sleeping bags in the floor but they enjoyed tho.... More

We recently rented out all five of the Smithgall Woods Cottages for a weekend to host our wedding and lodging for our close family. The cottages are actually accessed from across the road of the main entrance, and they are tucked away into one of the most beautiful parcels of land and forest we have ever seen. Once through the... Our group was divided between 5 cabins and they all have their own personality and charm. Even though it rained during our stay, it could not put a damper on the natural beauty of our surroundings. It was so peaceful and serene! It was also nice to catch glimpses of fly fishing experts! I would love to return here with... More

My Brother, 4 sisters and I (with our spouses) stayed in one of the cabins for a long weekend. It was so comfortable and relaxing. We had plenty of space for all of us. We kept the fireplace going for 3 days. We took advantage of the large kitchen for most of our meals. On Saturday afternoon, we checked the... More

Great, relaxing, rustic atmosphere deep in the woods. Clean, nice rooms in the lodges. Cabins are nice. Trails and surrounding town of Helen give the area a lot to do. Wi-fi and service are spotty at best.

Your adventure starts with a drive down a single lane road that has a canopy of trees reminding me of a wooded cathedral. A rushing stream burbles and crashes to the side. The cabins at Smithgall Woods are everything you could hope for. The cabins have AC, heat, a wood burning fireplace, full kitchen, wireless and a few even have... More

Smithgall Woods is everything a retreat into nature should be...beautiful, peaceful, breathtaking. My husband and I came here for a much needed break from the stress of city life, and were awed at every turn. We stayed in the Laurel Cottage, small and cozy, complete with hot tub and wood burning stove. We had easy access to trails leading to... More

Smithgal Lodge is Enchanting. There is no other way to explain it. It's a beautiful setting that takes you far away. We took our grown children and their families here after Christmas (2012). It was a wonderful way to relax and bond with them. The guys fished. We hiked, explored Helen and enjoyed the beauty of Nature that is all... More

We stayed in the Garden Cottage and hiked nearly all the trails. This state park is extraordinary! It is a conservation park. Limited motorized vehicle use and wonderful interpretative trails. The staff is excellent! I can't recommend it enough.

This is going to be short. This place is breathtakingly extraordinary. Check it out and go there. It's a perfect place for a small family reunion (or huge if you rent the other cottages, too), a romantic get-away, a board meeting, discussion group, etc, etc, etc. Creek-side log house + crackling fire + lots of space + beautiful trails... it's...
