The Brasenose Arms is a 17th century Country Inn, situated in the heart of Cropredy, a rural village just 4 miles north of Banbury, Oxfordshire. Originally three cottages, it was converted into a Public House in the late 17th century.Today, it hosts Britain's (if not Europe's) 'friendliest' music festival - Fairport's Cropredy Convention - staged every year in August by members of the great British folk band - Fairport Convention. Here they are, sitting outside the pub, for the photo on the back of their 1973 album 'Nine'. Contemporary en-suite accommodation is available in a recently converted barn. Six rooms are available - 2 Doubles, 2 Twins (1 family) and 2 Singles all with en suite showers, TV and hospitality trays. Ground floor rooms have disabled access. All rooms are strictly non-smoking.

I booked a meal via the online system, received an email confirmation very quickly, I had booked a table for 5.45pm single table for one with my dog. we were the first of the evening customers.
The pub has been reopened for a couple of days now, all freshly painted and of course to comply with COVID regulations the tables were all spaced out, I was given a table in the bar area right next to the bar. the wood burner was going and the room was warm.
Could not fault the service and the selection on the 2 menus, the beer Hookey was good. as a starter had bubble and squeak with a ducks egg, very nice indeed, followed by the game pie with fresh vegetables, the only thing I could fault was that the plate was not hot, followed by Christmas pudding with vegan ice cream. ( I don't like Brandy cream, which it is normally served with ) .
A very nice meal, the pub was full every table was occupied, everyone abided by the social distancing rules.
I will be returning again very soon. provided they have room to fit me in.

Cropredy is a great village with lots of good walks all around and very pretty countryside.

We had booked for Sunday lunch in the bar as we were bringing our dog. We arrived at the pub and were given a very warm welcome, settled at the table, menus given, drinks order taken and water bowl brought for the dog.

To eat I had the beef and partner had the chicken. Both were delicious. I am very fussy about meat and the beef was so tasty and tender. Would definitely have it again. We didn’t have starters so that we’d have room for pudding and so pleased we did. Had clementine and ginger sponge - it was truly scrumptious.

The staff were all friendly and attentive and the pub had a great atmosphere. It was very busy but that did not affect the service at all.

Will definitely be back.

We booked for 15 of us - 8 adults and 7 children on Saturday evening and we had a great time. We had pre-ordered our meals and they were all served in a timely manner. No problems at all. The waiters and waitresses were all very friendly. The food was hot and tasty with big portions. We even enjoyed some live music and the kids loved the free ice cream. A great night out.

My partner booked the Brasenose Sunday evening 5:45pm partner called them at 5:22pm Friday to book she asked for 7pm but was told kitchen closed at 6pm so she requested 5:45pm, was told that was fine so confirmed reservation.
We turned up at the appointed time and firstly they had no record of the booking then said the kitchen was closed at 5:45 anyway no apology no service recovery.. appreciate tricky times etc but I drove 120 miles to join partner for a long awaited meal.. very disappointing.. don’t recommend

We took a trip to Oxford and stumbled across the Brasenose Arms. The sun was out and the beer garden was tempting so we headed in for lunch and a pint. Turns out it was so lovely that we stayed until the sun went down and had our evening meal there to.
Location perfect, bar and restaurant perfect, beer garden perfect, staff and service perfect and went over and above to please, drinks perfect and food perfect. Could not fault a second of our day there.
The added bonus of staying all day was the evening entertainment provided free in the form of a very accomplished bluegrass singer and performer who livened up the garden just enough without dominating! A perfect booking.
I can not wait to revisit and may even try the B&B rooms in the future.
it's a 10 out of 10 from me, can't fault the place.
Everything was clean and seemed Covid safe with attention to detail which was really reassuring.

As a regular on the canal I have visited the Brasenose a number of times and never felt it was any better than average. However we decided to try it again.
The atmosphere is somewhat clinical and flat. The greeting was ‘How can I help you’. Fine but it’s not M & S. We ordered 2 lamb shanks, not cheap. They arrived very quickly, the whole meal warm but not hot. Should of sent it back, I accept that. Even at Wetherspoons they bring condiments and ask if you need anything else. There was no salt or pepper, and the waitress walked off with a quick ‘enjoy’ so we borrowed from a neighbouring table. After catching attention to get mustard, a small bowl arrived with a teaspoon each. Utterly inadequate and unacceptable.
A wholly forgettable experience, and we won’t be back.
As a matter of interest we popped into the other pub in Cropredy on the way home for a drink, so much more friendly and atmospheric. Wish we’d eaten there, I advise anybody else to do the same.

Called in here on spec for a midday meal during a cold day in the week, while pootling round the lovely Cotswold villages of Oxfordshire. We saw the posh Blue Sign for the inn by the canal bridge & thought, if they are as smart as the sign it’ll be a good place to stop.
We were met inside by Josh who politely offered us a seat (to my wife’s delight) by the stove in the cosy Restaraunt. Our food, when it arrived, was nicely presented & cooked & of sufficient quantity for us to wonder if we’d manage it all ! In an accolade to the chef, our plates were cleared, such was the quality of the meals.
We were looked after by Josh with quiet efficiency who we would like to thank personally. There is off road parking at the side of the building for a few vehicles or on the surrounding roads .

Booked the Brasenose Arms after recommendation from other boaters on the Oxford Canal.

It took 1 hour and twenty minutes for the meals to arrive. 3 of our four meals were poor. The Rosti as were the other meals were served on cold plates, my wife’s fish and chips was inedible and my sister in law’s beetroot and cauliflower kebab was largely a red onion served with an onion coleslaw. The fish was sent back as the batter was still raw and the fish chewy.

The two young lads serving were charming and helpful.

Unfortunately the only manager on was the bar manager who had no direction over the kitchen.

It was a hot day and customers were backed up but the place illustrated a total lacking of control.

Advice. Avoid at all costs

Our normal routine is to walk to the children’s park with our granddaughter and then go to the Brasenose, via the back entrance, for lunch. We got the shock of our lives last weekend when approaching the back entrance, a manic woman came towards us and rudely told us we would have to walk around Cup & Saucer and approach the pub from the front entrance. We explained that we lived in the village, and we always approached from the rear, she had an absolute fit on us. Her attitude was quite scary! We stood there in shock! We told her that her rudeness was not necessary and that we would take it further. She then screamed at us and said, “Do want you like but you are not coming in this way, my name is xxxxxxxxx so go ahead and report me” We just stood there in shock.
We get a lot of tourists cutting through our little lane and very often they ask us to recommend a place to go for a drink or a meal, we used to say, ‘The Brasenose’. Not anymore! I will advise them to stay clear incase they meet the madwoman. It is known in the village that this woman is rude and most of her comments on our local Facebook page are shocking and had to be removed. I cannot understand why she is like this, and I cannot understand why she is employed at the Brasenose. The Brasenose has undergone massive renovation works turning it into a wonderful place to be. What they have achieved is nothing short of miraculous. The staff are very friendly and super-efficient. Nevertheless, we will not be using The Brasenose ever again.

I took my parents to the Brasenose for an early Christmas Day celebration and had without a doubt the best Christmas dinner I’ve had in years!

My parents has the Bacon Wrapped Turkey, which they said tasted great, in no way dry like Turkey can often come out when poorly cooked.

My partner and I had the Beetroot and Squash Wellington, which was hands down the best vegan roast we’ve ever had… and we live in trendy east London! It came with all the same trimmings as the Turkey, was beautiful presented and perfect portion. Our oven-baked mushroom starter was also made vegan on request and tasted amazing.

Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a vegan or meaty roast either way and we couldn’t fault a thing. Thanks!
