Quiet, comfortable and still central. Nice and neat.
It was a pleasure to stay at this small pension and I enjoyed having only 5 Minutes walk to the sea.
I had a swim there at the Beginning of Oktober! Temperatures 21/21 degrees.
From here to Marcus Square max. 30 minutes.

I stayed in this hotel for about one week in december 2002 and my choice was mainly determined by budget considerations as well as

awareness of a reasonable location. I did a lot of research on the
internet etc. beforehand and booked my room by phone and fax. There
were just a few guests, and I only paid around 20 euro per night
including breakfast. Combined with a VeniceCard - which gives you free
transport with the ferries - this small hotel is OK and within easy
reach of the Piazza San Marco - the ferry trips are wonderful. The
owner is friendly and speaks a little English. Breakfast is simple. The
rooms seem different from each other, so try to have a look in order to
be able to choose. Calm and relatively clean, though definitely not
exuberant as regards the furniture style - and maybe no TV around.
Staying at a crowded youth hostel or at a cheap hotel in Mestre cannot
be better than this, I think.

My partner and I stayed one night in the hotel in later September 2011. We arrived in Venice one day early and therefore needed to book accommodation for one night. We booked the Pergola at the airport and paid a 20 Euro deposit with 80 Euros to pay on arrival.

The Pergola is based on the Lido Island, probably about a 10-15 minute walk from the Vaporetto stop. It is based down a side street so single females should be careful although the Lido seemed generally safe. We decided to stay on the Lido as it is cheaper than the main Island and it's very easy to get over to St. Marks square and other attractions on the Vaporetto. There are a number of reasonable restaurants near the Pergola.

When we arrived we found the lady on reception spoke very limited English and was insisting (very rudely) on the full amount (100 Euros) which we had no intention of paying. After 20 minutes of arguing and after she had telephoned the booking office at the airport she eventually accepted the 80 Euros.

Our room was very clean and the hotel looked as if it had been renovated recently. My only criticism on the room however was there was no shower, only a large bath.

Breakfast was included in the price although was very basic. It consisted of pastries, tea/coffee, fruit juice (from concentrate) and fruit. The pastries were very dry and the fruit looked as if it had been there for a while.

Overall impressions of the hotel were ok but the lady who ran the place seriously needs some lessons in customer service and although I understand the hotel is in Italy if you are going to try and attract international guests which she is she needs a much better level of English.

Watch out for the tourist tax!

This is a self serve hotel, more of a youth hostel disguised as a hotel. There is no staff to check you in or check you out. You will be put in communication with the owner thru text message who will attempt to make you feel like he is communicating with you to welcome you to the hotel, but he's more or less going to feed you instructions how to check yourself in when you arrive. And on the day of your departure they are going to want you out by 10:30, if you are late in checking out get ready for the cleaning lady to yell at you. The rooms are basic, no decor and the hotel is in bad shape.

My partner and I stayed there in early October for 3 nights and compared to the 6 places we stayed at during our trip to Europe, this place was by far the worst one.

Every other B&B we stayed in had free wifi. Here you have to pay €5 for two days. Even though we told the staff that we wanted it and will pay for it, she waited for us to dig out the money before she even began to take out her pen and paper to give us the password and user name.

We booked a double room with a French bed and were shocked that the bed was barely larger than a single bed (it's known as a super single bed in my country). Perhaps we were ignorant to what a French bed is, but it is appalling that the hotel had the audacity to advertise it as a room suitable for 2 people. The two pillows could not even be placed side-by-side without half of one pillow sticking out.

While they claim to be a hotel, their service was the most lacking among all the places we stayed at. Firstly, they expect you to clear your table after breakfast. I have never stayed at a B&B that asked its customers to do that, let alone a hotel!! In addition, there was a strike on the ACTV water ferries on the day of our arrival. We were told by the owner Eduardo that we could avoid paying for expensive private boats and use an alternative transport called the Alilaguna. He told us that it was just outside the train station (it wasn't and it was in an obscure corner) We were unable to find the stop on the main island and paid for a private boat to Lido. When we asked the staff on duty about the Alilaguna services on Lido island or other transport services, all she could tell us was that there was a strike on the ACTV and she did not know of any other way for us to go to the main island. In fact, we found out that there was minimum guaranteed service during the strike and we could still get to the main island using the ACTV. The staff was totally unhelpful!!

The hotel is not as accessible to the main island as it claims to be. The service to the train station on the main island takes up to 40mins during peak hour and it was always crowded, making the trip to the main island extremely uncomfortable (especially when we had heavy backpacks).

The worst thing was that our room was infested with mosquitoes!!! We easily killed 10 mosquitoes within an hour of being in the room and were badly bitten during our stay there.

I definitely would NOT return to La Pergola and would strongly discourage others from staying there. Even if their prices are competitive, your money is probably better spent on other establishments with more helpful staff, better accessibility, and no mosquitoes!

Response from lapergoladivenezia, Proprietario at Hotel La Pergola di Venezia
Responded 16 Nov 2011
I am truly sorry and disappointed. For the experience described by Syng. As I always gave my best for my clients. Certainly when there's strike, there is a strike. It is not easy in five minutes to find the right answer. I am sure they did not understand my instructions. And I think even now, to have given the right directions. From one who lives in Venice. They must have done something wrong. I am sure that they have found the wrong day to get to Venice. Which is already difficult to move. with the strike even more. And for this they have had a traumatic experience that is poured out on the hotel. They, moreover chose the economy room. But I have many other rooms, big and beautiful. And is not I who advertises this room, but all major portals. If one wants to spend less has this possibility. I'll try to build on this comment to improve. I hope to have you again my guest and to give you the best. Dear Syng. I'm sorry

Good location on Lido and only 10 minutes walk from the waterbus. Near lots of shops and restaurants.
Rooms were basic but clean and spacious.
Breakfast was continental and includes fruit (tinned) yogurts eggs breads cakes ham cheese and jams. For what we paid we were highly satisfied.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Tip: download walking directions as although it's not far you might struggle to find it.

I had a fantastic experience staying at the Pergola and I recommend it wholeheartedly. I especially liked that it is a small family run place with a personal and very friendly service, yet very relaxed and un-businesslike at the same time. Mirjana at reception was always there and made me truly feel at home. As I was travelling alone I cherished this especially. Thank you so much!
The room and bathroom were a very good size and beautifully decorated. There is air conditioning which was wonderful to have.
The entire hotel was clean and felt taken good care of. There is a lovely patio area outside to sit and there even is a roof terrace with a hammock and a shower that I unfortunately only discovered on my last day.
The hotel is well situated with a short walk to the city centre, the beach and the ferry to Venice city.
The reason why I have not rated it 5 stars is that my room was too light during the night (the shutters were broken) and that all sounds from the eating/reception area penetrate the room. Luckily it was mostly rather quiet during my stay, however. (My room was at the ground floor.)

We stayed here last week for 3 nights and had a most wonderful time in this amazing City and its surrounding islands, including Lido. The Pergola is a small but basic hotel in a great central but quiet location and great for the links to Venice. Hidden away down a path off a quiet road it is what it claims to be. The hotel is very clean and looked after. Our room was upgraded for free due to it being our anniversary which was a really nice gesture. We had a balcony which overlooked the terrace area where we had breakfast. Had a very good sleep as area very quiet as I keep saying.
The owner was very polite and helpful and welcoming.
Breakfast was a basic continental style affair but was more than sufficient for our needs. There was as much as you wanted really and cannot fault. If you are wanting a fry up etc,, forget it, this is ITALY after all.
Location is a 3 minute walk from the main town high street which has some great restuarants and bars. Very safe friendly area.
We hired bikes from the hotel at 15euro for 2 for the day which is excellent value and a great way to explore LIDO.
This is a clean basic hotel in a great location with a friendly atmosphere. The only thing we would have liked would have been tea and coffee making facilities in the room, apart from that great!! Thanks for a perfect stay in your wonderful city.

This place was clean and tidy, a bit hard to find if you have to walk to it, luckily our taxi driver knew where it was!!

Checking in was fine but... Breakfast was an unmitigated disaster, one harassed cook who barely spoke English wasn't good enough. Breakfast in Italy is a grim affair and the continuous lack of plates, cups, cutlery and milk for cereal was rediculous. You could have cold ham, cheese or hard boiled eggs (if you were lucky). You made your own toast (no probs with that) but butter was hard to come by. There was never enough milk........ever!! You had to choose between milk for your morning cuppa or a dribble for ya cereal - really bad management by the owners who should be more responsible for guests. No change for the washer or dryer and the local shops or banks are a bit of a hike away!!

No one to check us out on the morning of our departure.....the breakfast lady tried but failed to help. She manually wrote down our credit card details as the EFTPOS machine supposedly wasn't working!!

It isn't a bad location if you done mind walking, it is close to the beach, it does have good air-conditioning in the bedrooms.

Eduardo, the owner, is the nicest hotel staff we have come across in Europe. Our train was delayed 4 hours so we would arrive after 9pm which is when check in closes. We rang Eduardo and he gave us the code for the gate as well as left our key at reception, which was very kind of him. (No late check in fee)

We arrived at the hotel around 11pm at night. You catch the no. 1 or no. 51 boat to Lido from S Lucia train station - takes around 45 min (Eduardo had informed us by email of directions). Then about a 7 min walk to hotel. Hotel is down a little alley. Very upmarket location with restaurants and a supermarket nearby.

The rooms were very nice. Clean, comfortable, spacious. Really clean/fresh smell when you walk in the door. Good bathroom with bidet and high pressure shower.

The next morning, Eduardo informed us he had bumped us up to the room above the economy as he had some free rooms. Again free of charge! What a nice guy.

Breakfast is free with the booking - croissants, yoghurt, cereal, coffee and even an egg cooker.

Away from the hustle of main Venice. Would happily recommend staying here and would definitely stay here again.

The cheapest way to get to the hotel from the airport is train and bus. But the handiest is the water bus(vaporetto). It goes straight to Lido island from the airport. The Alilaguna line blue. Its £27 euros return and takes about an hour. Its all signposted so very straightforward.
