Beautiful hotel, spread out over a large area. Everywhere was very clean and well maintained. The hotel is located by the beach, but the sea is too rough to enter. Also there is nothing outside the hotel, so if you are looking for restaurants, pubs or shops, you will need to stay elsewhere. However, for a relaxing holiday, this is the place to stay.

Hotel's Favourite
Great family holiday - As with all my reviews I base this on the money I paid against what I expected and wanted. For all that it’s gets a great review from me. So let’s the get the 5 star hotel quality issue addressed first. Of course it’s not 5 star. The Dorchester is 5 star. The definition of a 5 star hotel is flawless guest services in a state of the art facility. Booking through TUI for a summer family break in Africa isn’t going to get you a 5 star hotel. In my view this is a solid 4 star family hotel. What absolutely made this holiday for me were the staff. From the reception staff, bar, cleaners, drivers, gardeners, life guards, etc etc they are all amazingly helpful and friendly. I got this all the way through Cape Verde not only in the hotel. They absolutely could not be more helpful, cheerful, friendly or funny. The hotel itself is a monster in size. It’s not ugly, it’s just a big sprawling castle type settlement that you would expect to find in the Middle Ages in the Sahara. It’s surrounded by nothing and when you get to the island you feel like you’ve landed on Mars. It’s desolate, it’s basically the Sahara desert in the ocean. The beach is absolutely amazing. Imagine the big sprawling sand of Fuerteventura mixed with the palms of the Dominican Republic. There is a cool breeze and palms to hide under. The sea is permanently red flagged and very dangerous. You can paddle but be careful. The waves are beautiful and if you walk left in the morning you may see turtles and crabs. Some even saw hammerhead and lemon sharks from the rocks 1 mile left down the beach. There are two pools for the general population. The infinity pool is far left near block 9. The main pool had a swim up bar. The adult only pool we didn’t try. Sun bed situation can be silly with most gone by 7am. Top tip, use the beach. Lots of beds, nice breeze, 60 second walk to the pool and pool bars. Food was really nice. Yes after 2 weeks you start to crave your home comforts but the choice was amazing. Salads, seafood, steaks, roast beef, turkey, pork, pasta, pizza, burgers, chips. Trays and trays of lovely fruit for every meal. More cakes than you could name. Salad bar was always a favourite and huge selection. Tuna steaks, Grouper fish, crayfish, and many more on the sea food section. Restaurants were v good. Asian was nice, Italian was sound. Cape Verdean was same as main restaurant. Drinks. Ok let’s deal with the watering down thing. Anyone who has worked in a bar or brewery knows that to try and mix water into a pressurised beer system doesn’t work and would cost you more than you saved. It’s just normal 4% beer. They give it you in small cups but you can take bigger cups of your own or just fill your own glass. The pre mixed cocktails aren’t that strong but if you want a decent size gin or rum it’s never a problem. The liquor bottles aren’t watered down. You just get a lot of ice and if you want more gin just ask them to top it up. For all those who say they didn’t feel drunk well that’s a good thing. We should be drinking to enjoy not to get pissed. The bloke who fell off the pool bridge and the 3 ladies put in the recovery position at the bar managed to get drunk so well done them. Luckily the vast majority of the hundreds of guests were sensible. Then mix of people in the hotel is great. British, German, Dutch, French, Portuguese, Romanian, amongst others. Good banter and nice people. Pool side entertainment is good fun. Beach volleyball is a regular highlight with 2 games starting at 10.30. French boules, bingo, water polo. Tennis and football if you want it. Night time entertainment is what you would expect. Some nights they had a a singer whilst you ate. During the day a saxophone player or guitar near the pool side bars. Some evenings were a bit Butlins on stage. It’s remote island off the coast of Africa. They are never going to book Ed Sheeran. We avoid the entertainment at most hotels we go to. I like some background music but I won’t be queueing up for a table at the front each night at any hotel tbh. We might get the cards out. There seemed lots to do for little ones. There’s a small toddler pool attached to the kids club. It’s self contained and looked great. We used to call it baby prison when we walked past. For teenagers there is enough. Pools, beach, activities, lots of people to meet. Excursions we did the turtles night tour. Amazing. Booked with Giggling Geckos. We also did the Sunday bbq with Andrew Worthington (find him on Facebook). It’s in Morabeza and water sports available. Andrew is a great guy and will bend over backwards to help. So in summary we booked our precious 2 week family holiday and loved it. The island feels a bit remote, it’s something different if barren. Weather is 30c all day every day. It’s never cold. Rained 3 days out of 14 and some cloud but we all came back tanned and refreshed. People are amazing. As much as it pains me to say it TUI were really good. I find them pricey and a bit faceless but this time they were great. If you want a solid good standard hotel for some summer family time you can’t you wrong. As a couple you may prefer something more intimate. I got what I paid for and loved it. 5 stars from me. Well done and thanks.

This was our 10th visit to the hotel. Usual hard working and friendly staff make for a good atmosphere. Food excellent as usual more than enough choice...always hot and tasty...can be a bit busy at peak times but if you take your time there is no need to feel rushed. Beach is amazing...but not really for swimming due to size of waves. Weather was fabulous...30 plus most days and low 20's at night. ...shirt sleeve for me every night. Particular thanks to Janete and Felix on reception..Vladimir...Kevin Junior and Derio at the pool bar ...Danny at the show bar and El John at the adults only bar ...always cheerful even when busy ... We will be back !

We came to this gorgeous hotel 4 years ago and were amazed how peaceful and relaxing it was. We recently went back to find hundreds of screaming babies with parents who don't care. Who honestly takes 3 month old babies on a holiday where it's 28 degs everyday?!! All they do is cry and scream and ruin your (hopefully) peaceful break. The hotel and staff are absolutely amazing. Utterly fantastic. So very helpful and joyful. Shame about the families who've now found this beautiful place. Adults only for us from now on.

Arrived here on a Friday afternoon and 1st impressions of hotel was that it looked nice and clean, book in took a little time but refreshments were provided there is a resort fee to pay of I think 35 euros which I was unaware of but did not mind. We the actual resort is huge we stayed in block 5 and the room was basic but served it's purpose no bugs no bad smells so can't complain had a few issues with the safe which was taken care of immediately so again can't complain. The speciality resturante you need to book as soo as you arrive to make sure you get in we was lucky and visited all 3 the Italian was our fave but must give a shout out to the waitresses at boa vista brought a cake and champagne as we was celebrating a birthday really nice touch. Reading other reviews I wernt sure what I was letting myself in for but I must say I'm a picky eater and always found something to eat yes there is an odd tile missing here and there and the place could do with a repair here and there but let me tell you the grounds men work so hard maintaining high standards and all the staff are so lovely and welcoming and are always smiling they make this place what it is and I had no issues what so ever the entertainment work so hard and the Friday night parties are amazing and well worth a visit. The only star lost was due to and again just my opinion the alcoholic drinks they are not the best and you can tell the spirits are cheap we did still enjoy the drinks tho but they can leave abot of tummy ache. The coffee tho was amazing the pool areas were fun to be around and meet new people amd the kareoki bar is a good vibe too if you want a laugh. All in all its a lovely place and I will most definitely return. Just a note to people visiting take an iron as there isn't one in the room.

Just returned home last night and missing the place already! 25mns from airport. The resort is huge! I went with my mum for 10 days, we had a fab weather during our stay 28-31 degrees. The resort is huge and beautiful and the staff works hard all day keeping the entire place clean (I have so much respect for them). The beach was heaven for me! Long stretch of beach with pure soft sand where you can take long relaxing walks with your feet in the water. The waves can be really strong and people are prevented to swim further out but which is understandable for ones safety. There are always arranged activities to do with the Entertainment team during the day (includes, darts, beach football, volleyball, water polo and volleyball, french balls and daily bingo) which are always fun. I cannot fault them, they are always so full of energy and very friendly and always managed to make me laugh everyday! Aqua classes 12:00pm everyday with Brian, Andy, Paolo and King with all ages joining in will put a smile on your face! This is followed by a variety of crazy game which we also enjoyed! Dance classes are always full of laughter with the team! Joel and Federica were really nice and friendly! Their evening shows at 9pm were always enjoyable! they were all amazing dancers!!! The main 2 buffet restaurants which serves breakfast lunch and dinner have plenty of varieties and choices! I was addicted to their ice creams if you're an ice cream lover! my favourite flavours were coconut, coffee and orange! You must try and book for the Italian restaurant too! The food were delicious and restaurant is beautiful! There are also plenty of bars which serves all kinds of drinks. There is also a couple of clothes shops in the resort which sells nice clothes, reasonable price, a shop which sells chocolates, sweets and crisps (pricey, so you may want to take some with you) a pharmacy where you can buy toiletries, sun cream/oils/aftersun, insect body sprays (these were very pricey!) Also hand made souvenir shop. But if you want to get wonderful selections of good price souvenirs there is a couple of stalls set up on the beach with 2 local ladies who are both lovely and friendly! I nearly forgot to mention about the pools! there is an adult pool which overlooks the beach and the main pools which has different sections of water sun beds, pool bar with tables set ups and also 2 separate Jacuzzis! Only downfall my mum suffers from a knee problem since having her knee replacement and we were allocated a room in the adult section which we didn't realise was quite a walk for her to the main restaurant areas and pool sides where all the activities are, but our fault as we only booked just under 2 weeks prior. Overall amazing holiday and I will definitely go back again for a nice no stress, fun relaxing holiday! Thank you to all the staff who works so hard all day everyday!

First of all we had a great 2 weeks holiday , staff are marvellous, so helpful, always try to help , they are an assets to the hotel. We booked our holiday with Tui , and could only recommend, the flights , transfers were great. We were given a twin room , so we called reception to request a double bed. Nothing was done on the day so we went to the reception the next Morning. We were moved to another room, which was much better , however one thing that I would say is that there was a constant drain smell in the room which wasn’t nice at all. Our Positive points : all staff and in particular at the creole bar , the infinity pool , the entertainment, the food (would recommend the Asian restaurant),the Riu Party , the cats 😉 The Negative : the smell in the room , low quality spirits ,the fridge only had water ,the beach is lovely but you cannot swim in the sea , there is a constant red flag, the gym very small . Overall , we really enjoyed the holiday , however , next time we will book the Riu Palace instead!
