Let me start by saying Burg Rabenstein exceeded my expectations. They have done a fantastic job of creating unique, well appointed guest rooms in a castle that was built in the 12th century. We ate dinner here and the food was outstanding. The staff was engaging and helpful. The castle tour was fun despite the fact that it was narrated...

We stayed here for the Bayreuth festival - which only took 35 mins to drive to . It is a bit hard to find but a really super place to be . It is silent and in the heart of the forest. So dark that from the terrace we saw the Milky Way. Our suite was huge with probably the...

These nothing like hearing "There is a problem with your room"; to get your adrenaline pumping at the beginning of vacation 3000 miles away from home. I may be somewhat culpable, as I had to rebook this hotel a few times to adjust to changing travel plans, but I was charged almost $500 for 2 nights and the hotel missed...

We were really sorry for what happened! In fact our staff got confused with the number of cancellations and rebookings. Overbooking is not our policy – therefore our staff is not really trained for this situation. The only solution left that evening was to look for a nice room in another hotel in the surroundings or to ask the TV-Team...

Castle perched high on the cliff above the river valley. Well maintained and modern conveniences. Elevator and handicap accessible. Suites are spacious and each have a theme but plan to spend a bundle. Breakfast is fit for a king. Tour of the castle is included the stay. The restaurant is lovely and the food is top notch. There is a...

To begin, this is definitely off the beaten path for most foreign travelers. However, it is worth a visit. They offer a few options of entertainment and interest for visitors, including a falconry and a local cave, as well as a lot of beautiful hiking trails. Most of the people in the surrounding villages will speak little to no English,...

Stayed just one night in this absolutely fantastic property - and can't wait to get back! This is really beautiful castle with top-notch rooms (I had double-room, my friend had a suite), perfect service and fantastic surroundings. I go to Franconia every year for a "beer-vacation", so I have stayed in multiple hotels in the area and this one now...

We only ate at the restaurant and stayed in Bayreuth about 18 to 20 km away. It was certainly worth the drive down there. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the castle. We had booked a table for 13 people and we got a whole room to ourselves. Well room is quite an understatement, really. We...

A stunning castle hotel, with lovely interiors, comfortable rooms and stunning views. There was a lovely fire in the lounge, and some internet access in the entrance hall. The food and drink was very good. Cars need to be parked in the car park above the hotel, although can drop off nearer the entrance.

I recently stayed at the Burg Rabenstein with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. It was fantastic! The staff are first rate professionals and extremely friendly; the castle is beautiful, rich in history and the rooms well appointed. The food exceeded our expectations and we had some of the best meals of our entire trip. The castle is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Behind the ancient castle walls of Burg Rabenstein, high above the Ahorn valley in the heart of Franconian Switzerland, a whisper from the past encounters the comforts of the present. The castle hotel is surrounded by the 150-acre natural paradise including a limestone cave, falconry, tavern, beer garden and hiking trails. It is situated near the old towns of Nuremberg, Bayreuth and Bamberg. Rabenstein Castle is one of 100 main attractions in Franconia, premium partner hotel of the Castle Road and one of the selected "sightsleeping hotels" in Bavaria, where sightseeing starts the minute you open your eyes. We offer castle and cave concerts, dinner shows, wild boar buffets and a lot more. Another highlight is our medieval market twice a year. ... more   less

“If you can stay in the main building, it might be more comfortable. On the other hand, the hostel is very good value, if you don't mind sharing a bath. There is at least 1 room that is private.”
